Any suggestions? I'm thinking either autocannon or missile launcher. Also would a squadron of 2 sentinels be any good? I'm thinking of getting another one. Also, why do grenade launchers "suck so bad"? I've had quite a bit of luck with them against Orks and horde armies. Anyway just a few IG questions I'm relatively new to the army.

To be quite honest, you should get a vendetta instead of armoured sentinels. Its cheaper and it does way more.

Yes, but that is not the question I asked, is it? And I do plan to get a Vendetta eventually when my wallet permits.

BS3 is unreliable so you need to go for multishot or twin linked weapons. If you must do sentinels I'd do scout sentinels with multilasers and autocannons and have them outflank to get side shots on armored vehicles.

If you must do armored sentinels I'd go with autocannons to kill AV11 and 12, maybe with an HK missile for the first shot. Then have them charge enemy units that lack S8+ and trap them in a tarpit. Even then they're not that great.

As mentioned Vendettas are really the best FA choice in the IG codex, if not the game.

I'd go with whatever weapon you like the look of the best. Because it won't matter much in terms of gameplay...

How about plasma cannon? Cant get them from typical heavy weapon teams, and less effected by BS3

Bull . I've found my armored sentinel to be quite useful the few times I have been able to use it. (I put the weapon it was supposed to be using on it's base). Sure, they are not as good as a banewolf or a vendetta, but they aren't bad. Really the only disadvantage I see is the opportunity cost for taking up a space on the FOC. Although armored sentinels seem to be a bit overpriced.

The HK missile sounds useful, but I'm not sure if the extra points cost is worth it. I mainly play against Orks, so I am up against relatively light vehicles (except for one battlewagon, which I have a LR for), so I'm not really sure if I would need an extra krak missile.

Plasmas. I run 2 in my list with plasma and they draw a lot of fire, can take a relatively decent beating, and can drop some nice pain when the scatter isn't too bad.

Autocannons are a good second in my book, seeing as they can kill most infantry rather well and can do decent damage against light armor too.

What about missile launchers? BS 3 might be a little bit of a problem though.

I always run 2 scout sents in my list, they're pretty much hit or miss though. That BS3 really doesnt help you lol. I usually run two of them with LCs, makes them a bit pricey when i could just run with ACs, but I just prefer LCs. No one likes a S9 shot in 10rear lol.

And GLs are competitive, depending on your meta. like if you have alot of DE players you play against you can wreck them pretty well with GLs spam at 5pts a pop and S6 at a decent distance and you can also fire the template for when they jump out of the raider you can really wreck some DE lol. Thats the army I could justify GLs on most, and maybe Nids. All in all GLs are pretty versitile, but alot of people dont want versatile they want very effective spam. but in the right conditions GLs can indeed be very effective spams, and those right conditions all just depend on your meta, lol.

I am running 2 armoured sentinals for a infantry heavy army with plasma cannons and a HK missle. Being able to template against light vehicles and heavy infantry is a great help, and they can tie up some assault units. Also proper spacing means I can get a platoon a cover save.

This is one of the best ways to run armoured sents, loadout wise and tactic wise. Theres maybe a few other ways to use them, but in my current meta I'm all about the scout sents lol. very OP to get some auto pens in on some pesky vehicles.

What does the rest of your army look like? This will tell you how you should arm them, and more importantly, whether they really have a place in your list. In any case I'd suggest magnetiizing all of the weapons options as well as the closed top.

Armored Sentinels (no squadrons) with Heavy Flamer can also be quite nice to tie up enemy squads in close combat.

So, you're saying that the unit isn't as good as the other fast attacks, and is a bit over priced.

How was my comment BS then?

Once you poney up for the chassis, the choice is weapon is pretty open. You can pay even more for a plasma cannon (the most effective option), or build a semi-durable tank hunter (LC, ML, AC), or a harrassment tarpit unit (Multilaster, HF). Just figure out what you like more, and what you need more of, and drop it in. It's equally good (bad) at nearly all roles.

It's one of my rules of casual list building: if you're going to take an overpriced unit, just take what you want. Once you start trying to figure out the "best" way to use an overpriced unit, you're better off looking at all your options.

Here's a thread about Sentinels, and another one. Here's another!. And another!. Just one more.

Those took me 2mins to find with the search function.
