Would adding water directly into a paint pot hurt anything? I'm thinking of doing that with my P3 paints because I have a hell of a time pouring the paint out and have the excess just dry out on me.

I tend to do it with my washes.. use a syringe to add 2 ml of fresh water.. makes them go further and stops me from needing to dilute it on the pallet.

I've done it before and managed to squeeze some life out of some very old GW paints. If it's water based paint then it should help thin the paint.

I do it frequently to reconstitute older paints that are starting to thicken. Works great!

I do it all the time with foundation paints, I also shove a penny in the pot so I can shake the hell out of it.

Same here, it really only makes them better. I found about 6 pots that are a good 10 years old, and they were sludge. Some water and a good mix later and they good as old

All my GW paints have water added to them. I don't mix my Vallejo air paints as they get mixed with the appropriate thinner before they get sprayed. Also makes mixing colours easier if you use them all "neat".

Just make sure you don't add too much. I add water to pots a few drops at a time, shaking after each addition and rechecking the consistency. I still mix and adjust on the palette before painting, so I don't want it thinned, but there's no sense letting the paints gel in the pots.

Thanks for the info folks. I have a dropper that I can use to slowly add water to the pots.

Once in a while I use a pallet, butI normally paint from the lid. A few drops of (clean) water from my paint brush, then stir it in the lid. It is easy enough to get just the right consistancy. Once you finished painting, close the lid and the thinned paint drips into the pot. I haven't had a paint pot dry up yet. I also don't waste the paint left on a pallet. . .
Like most things, it works fine for me so I don't bother getting more complicated.
