A counts-as Sanguinor for my personal chapter, meant to appear more as a vengeful spirit dragged into the physical world in times of need. It looks a bit blurry since it's posting so small (anyone know how I can change that?), but the picture is high-rez in my gallery.

I know it's an extra step, but if you look at it in my gallery you can zoom in incredibly close.

One of the best Sanguinor conversion I have seen.

My thanks to everyone for the kind words, this is an idea I have had rattling around in my head for awhile and I have been collecting the pieces and working slowly on it for several months.

I didn't have him in mind when I made it, but I have played enough Diablo that he must have been in the back of my head somewhere. The inspiration for the piece was the Harbinger of Menoth, just 40Ked up a bit.

The base is the Wyrd Miniature Apparitions pinned in the best formation I could manage to the base. They are based black and given two or three levels of edge highlighting in grey with a Badab Black wash to tone it back down. The mud on the base is an artists paste that I mixed different browns over and then gave a layer of 'Ard Coat to make it look wet.

The figure himself is mostly a kitbash: Sanguinary Guard legs, swords and torso from the new Grey Knights (there is a torso that says "Avenging Angel," how could I resist), the head is from one of the Dark Angel sets, and the wings are from the Dark Eldar Scourges.

The swords and hands all took some cutting apart and repositioning to get the angles they are at, which was a pain given the small surfaces I was trying to glue together. For the head I clipped out the front of the helmet and pressed greenstuff into it until I had a smooth, concave shape. I also cut the "box" off the back of the torso where the backpack is usually mounted, as I wanted the wings to look more organic to the character. The Scourge wings actually fit the curve of the back remarkably well, you just have the issue again of a large piece with a small connection. One of them is pinned (it kept falling off) and the other one should be, but it was staying in place and I was sufficiently aggravated by the other that I left it be.

For painting, I primed him black and gave him a solid coat of Vallejo Game color (VGC) Hammered Copper and a wash of Delvan Mud. The verdigris is a wash consisting of 1:1 GW Enchanted Blue and Knarloc Green, a drop or two of Future Floor Polish and enough water to get it nice and thin (I tested it on a spare model I had until I was happy with the consistancy). Do bits at a time so you can soak the wash back off the model with a damp brush where you want the metal to show through more, if you let it dry it becomes hard to reapply the metal and have it blend in to the verdigris well. I got a lot of inspiration from this website. The wings were blended from GW Dheneb Stone near the body to VGC Bleached Bone, given several coatings of Delvan Mud (darkening near the body) and edged in places with the Bleached Bone.

He is pinned to the back of one of the Apparitions through his heel. The chain is just from a craft store, glued to the Apparitions hands and draped over the model. I gave the chain a thin layer of superglue to hold it in place (blow on it to pop the bubbles filling the links) and then layered it with Tamiya's Smoke and GW Delvan Mud and Ogryn Flesh.

I'm quite happy with how he came out, let me know if you have any other questions.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The sculpt is dynamic and beautiful. I like the additional basework that supports the figure, it makes it look more action-y. The paint scheme is also lovely. It has that dark, 40k look without being stereotypical.

How did you do the faceless helm? I recognize the head (I think). I've wanted to do a fig for a captain based on the Hangin' Judges from Deadlands for quite a while, and the way you did the faceless face is just the sort of thing I was aiming for. You give me hope that my idea might one day be a viable option!

I spoke a bit about it in the post right above yours. It's a Dark Angel hooded head that I clipped the front of the helmet off and dug more out with a hobby knife, I then pressed greenstuff into the cavity and smoothed it, blending it up to the edges of the hood. Then paint the inside black, use a lighter color for the outside of the hood to increase the contrsat and make the black look deeper.

That's pretty incredibly fantastic.

Wow, this is an amazing model you have created. Great work! I especially love the patina you have on the copper thanks for sharing. Were you going to give the shoulder pads any markings or is this angel finished?

I may add some rust to the steel bits on the shoulder pads, but I left them purposely blank to make him more anonymous. I wanted him to have little ornamentation (until I found the Grey Knight torso I used).
