I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.
About three years ago I started an Iron Warriors army, which I now deciding to continue building up. However I notice now that my painting has evolved since then, and I am not very satisfied with how the earliest CSM I painted look... What do you think I should do? Just note that I am quite likely in any case to buy new models, but I figured I shouldn't waste what units I have already.

I think you should strip them and then repaint them, because it would be a waste otherwise.

It's easy enough to strip anything. If you still like the actual miniatures then it'll save you heaps of money.

Just repaint them...I had the same problem when I started up again a couple years ago. My old IG army that I did when i was like 12 looked so bad...luckily I also did a new paint scheme though.

with inflation and what it is today, your $0.02 counts for nuffin!

But yes. Strip and repaint them. You may feel like a tool for doing it, or that its not worth it, or that it takes a lot of effort, but I stripped about 100 models in the past two months. It was a pain, and it was worth it. Your prior painting skills also covered up details and slathered the paint on, etc, so painting on top of that won't do your current skill much justice.

Very good then... Good thing I hadn't painted that many IW:s, then. Thanks a lot! This will also give me the opportunity to remodel some guys I thought was posed dumb, too.

I'll start a blog soon, btw.

Alternatively leave the existing models painted until you have finished your new stuff. At least that will give you a solid painted base for your army. I know it always takes me ages to get around to painting stuff

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

That's an idea of course, yet it is a bit hard for me to see them standing there not good looking But it is true it might not be smart to be too hasty.

I'd repaint them, eventually, but if you're getting new models, as well, I'd start by painting those first, as Flinty suggests. A pile of naked plastic can be quite daunting, but if you sit the old and new side by side, seeing how much nicer the current paintjobs look could be a great motivator (not sure if that's an issue with you, but I paint at a snail's pace. A narcoleptic snail. With asthma.).

Plus, a fully painted force looks better than a half painted one, even if some models aren't quite up to snuff. Get enough new models done and they'll fade into the background until you're ready to give them a facelift. Just don't leave them too long or they might get shoved aside in favor of more new models.
