Et In Arcadia Ego

You may recall that GW have been on the lookout for some new design studio staff. It seems that at least one of these positions has been filled...
If there's ever a lesson to learn it's that as much as things may seem like they're going to stay the same, you never know when life is going to throw you a curveball or a new path. I've been rather up in the air for the last few months with things going on behind the scenes and my future has seemed rather uncertain. You've probably noticed that the blog has been a little erratic of late with regards to updates and that my miniatures releases haven't had a proper focus. This is because three months ago I applied for a position as an in house sculptor with Games Workshop. These things tend to take time to work out and I've now been offered and accepted said position.
This means that over the next week or two I will be shutting down operations on my miniatures business as it's not something I can run alongside my new job and, frankly, I'm looking to be able to relax and have some proper time off outside of work (something that every self employed person out there will no doubtably understand).
Right now I can't wait to get started sculpting cool stuff for GW as many of you will know I'm a long time GW geek and there's always been the part of me that wanted to work with their imagery. Plus it's going to offer me the new challenge of sculpting for plastic. A challenge that I relish as I do like plastic figures.
Not exactly sure what happens to the blog but the plan is to keep it going. I'll just have to work out what I'll be writing about.
Now I think I have a few mad weeks of sorting out a move from Cornwall to Nottingham...
from his site/blog http://spyglassasylum.blogspot.com/
Good for him.
edit : ta to Mr. Maccwar on 'seer for the initial spot.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

A quick look at his work says good things about him. I look forward to seeing what he can do.

He makes a very interesting point here...
http://spyglassasylum.blogspot.com/2011/06/sculpting-photo-of-mini.html
People are getting used to high res images of figures and demand levels of detail which are irrelevant when the models are used in a game.
It's basically what I have been saying for a long time so obviously he is right and a jolly good sculptor and painter.

A really interesting blog. He has a nice explanation of the nature of 'undercuts' on the second page which was helpful as someone who has often the heard the term but had no idea what it meant.

I for one am glad - he's had a tough time over the last five or so years.
Good luck Steve!

His blog includes a very balanced assessment of Finecast. Seems like a fair assessment. Note his comments (which must carry some weight since he also sculpts) about resin being less likely to shrink than metal. That may explain why many people have perceived that Finecast models are superior to the metal ones. Sorry if that's OT.

IIRC... he's worked with GW in the past. I believe that the female noble for Inquisitor was sculpted by him.

I thought I recognised is name - this chap has won several Golden Demons and his models have been in WD quite a few times. The Looted Rhino is from 1997, and the Speedster is from a few years later. He has quite a good feel for Orky models.

I remember that! Wow, I really remember admiring that looted Rhino, it's strange to think this is the same guy. Speaks well, to me.
