I'm looking to quietly and secretly assembly an Alpha Legion Cadre...

What are some good tactics to use?

-natch!

Pretty much anything you want-the Alpha Legion are nothing if not pragmatic, and so any sort of plan can be implemented with a little bit of explaining.
Although, tactics that work on misdirection and confusion are more 'fluffy', as already said.

Anything goes, really.

They are big fans of misdirection though, and I'm not sure that "mad frontal assaults" factor in all that often.

But above all, be sneaky.

And stealthy.

And tell lots of lies, and have lots of secrets...

And occasionally cosplay as a loyalist chapter.

I like to think of the Alpha Legion as the Vietcong of 40k. Squat in the bush and hold your gun tight. Ambush them when they're weakest, and most importantly, demoralize them to the point of collapse.

That being said, using chosen to infiltrate/outflank, and deep striking would be core concepts of your army

I remember in the old codex where Alpha Legion, as the youngest legion, felt they had something to prove against all their older brothers, and so relish the chance to beat down on some loyalist sycaphants.

Use space marine parts, AL shoulder pads and use them as CSM or SMs.

Play against UMs, you'll force them into retreat.

I... can't disagree with that strategy.

Still true, I'd imagine!

Still also true, probably.

If Eskador ever happened.

Which it didn't.

Kind of.

...what? It's what they'd do.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Use another codexes rules, fail to inform you opponent of this fact. In fact, don't tell him what he is playing against at all, have all of your models look the same. Still have the right weapons options and WYSIWYG, but don't have unit markings. When he asks what each unit is, just tell him what the unit has, and if he asks, what special rule they have. Never volunteer information, only give info that you are required to give by the rules, but only when asked.

Show up with a guard army occasionally, when before the game you told your opponent that they were facing chaos. Don't use units that give away what you are playing with (like possessed, daemons, daemon princes, ect.). Build redundancy into the list, so when certain elements are destroyed, you have others to step in and fill the same role.

To this, I think it would be awesome.

Either that or a marine army(using the appropriate book) that's subtly off somehow: wrong markings on squads, something wrong with the chapter symbol, etc. Play it in a way that you make subtle "mistakes" to things: calling Vets Chosen, calling your rifleman dread's ACs Reaper Auto's, that sort of thing. See if they catch on.

Does Alpha Legion use Khorne and blood and such? Because that's what I'm good at.

Am I the only one who noticed the 3 posts in a row with different users, but all having the same avatar?

And Alpha legion does there own thing, so you would be better off not using units like marines dedicated to certain gods(aka berserkers, plauge, etc.)

You would want to have sudden rapid attacks, and then immediately run away. AKA hit and run. Move fast to blow up a tank and then get out of there before the squad can be completely killed.

There are no Alpha Legion tactics because there is no Alpha Legion. The high lords of Terra have officially declared that Alpha Legion has been wiped out. Spreading rumors that Alpha Legion is still around is heresy, and will be punished by death. Nothing to see here, move along.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
