So I recently got into 40k and Tau, but I can't convince my gaming buddy to play unless he can roll orcs (refuses to roll with 40k orcs). So, it looks like I am gonna change from Tau to Beastmen (my Bloodbowl Team) and my pay will go with orcs. So my question is, what is a good minimum point army to learn the basics of play and still be able to actually play against others?
Whats a good example of an army of that size for orcs and Beastmen?

Thanks
Beast

Personally I learned on 1750 and 2k against my beastman and lizardman friends.

Gives you the oppertunity to get big units and see how they work.
Let's you have an actual good magic phase as in you can have a lvl 4 caster.

I liked it and everyone had fun and we learned the game and our armies.

If you are able to, try to play several games with proxies (or paper) before you go buy a bunch of stuff (your friend too).

This is pro advice. Also, I say play the biggest game you guys are comfortable with, and try to mix in a variety of different types of units so you guys get the experience. I think a game as small as 1000 points can be valuable, but I agree with the advice to try and go bigger so you guys can experience more things. I played games about this size when i was getting my wife into her Dark Elves.
