Now for those who were expecting something a bit flamboyant, i apologize this was more of an idea of mine and i wanted to hear opinions on it... though i suppose if I get enough support I could look into painting a rainbow ork or two.
My idea however dealt with the idea of the orks not all being one color or clan. I like the idea of a true Armageddon style Waaagh with multiple clans being used at the same time. I plan to pitch the idea later buuuuut
for example one of the Killa Kan Squads i have here will be part of the Evil suns Ork Clan (Red & orange mostly) , But I plan on making my Mega-nobs the Ostentatious Bad Moons (Yellow and black) , While one of my Deff Dreds looks very steam-punk and will trace it's origins to the Death Skull Clan (Blue and white) and of course I will include the mighty color challenged Goffs somewhere in there (such as Ghaz, and maybe a few others)
The idea is to make the army seem pieced together but because of that it makes units stand out but also not at the sametime really giving the orks that proper feel to them. Anyway I won't be able to produce pictures for some time as i happen to be a REALLY slow painter. But comments?

I did something like this. It turned out quite nicely. I would suggest giving it a shot.

I've been contemplating doing the same thing with my orks. It makes more sense to paint multiple clans and you don't get bored painting the same thing over and over.

I have seen it done. It does look impressive.
And to tie it all together you just need to use a similar basing style, so they all look like they are fighting together.
Something that would be nice to see as it grows

It's a good way to distinguish similar units too.

This is what I'm doing, as well. Painting up each unit in the color of the most appropriate clan helps distinguish each unit (both for visual interest and for gaming convenience), challenges the painter to try different schemes, and is perfectly justifiable for fluff-nuts. Granted, I'm also an incredibly slow and infrequent painter, so that only amounts to a handful of Goff slugga boys and a few Deathskull lootas, but the plan has been in place for quite some time.
I say go for it and good luck!

This is actually how my Ork army is distinguished from others! It's still a WIP, but it's got a good ammount of unified dakka, my gallery has my unified banner if you're looking for inspiration.

I do it with my orks so it's easy to identify the squads when they get in combat.
