Do anyone still play the Carnifex?

I know they are more expensive and got nerfed big time, but I miss seeing these monsters across the table from me!

All these new nid lists look the same: Trygon, Hive Tyrant, Doom, warriors, hive guard and genestealers. Add Zoanthropes to taste!

Gone is the day of the Carnifex charge and armies scrambling for things to shoot them dead!

Well, I've got Mech Guard as my main army, but when my mate comes over to play he uses it and i switch to my unpainted Tyrannids. I got spanked a few times playing the horde then I researched on Dakka and slapped him down with Carnifex's and Tervigons. It was so sweet I wanted to cry...even though my Tervigons were represented by Genestealers on beer coasters...I say, if you love the model like I do, then use them, T6 is hard to beat!

I don't play nids, just that my buddy used to. But when going to club games and tourneys, you don't see Carnies anymore!

I really enjoyed playing against them! It was always a gamble whether my Zerks could take one out, but it was fun!

Then came the new codex and you could field squads of three!!!

I thought: Jeez! Everyones gonna spam 9 carnies! Yipee!!!

Much to my dissapointment, I have not seen or killed a Carnie in more than 14months!!!

For competetive play no.
Competitive lists are what you tend to see..
on the Internet at least.



If you like them go for it.
Personally i believe in the power of 3's when it comes to xenos,
so 3 brood of 3 should be a bundle of fun and good luck.



Combine that with 6 18's of Gaunts,
and a Swarmlord with 2 Tyrant guard
and you have yourself a fun time. IMO anyway.

I've never seen a Carnifex on the table in fifth edition.

I remember facing off against the 'nid MC spam. Christ it was hard to beat.

I use 2 of them, but there seems to be nobody else at my store who uses them.

I got me a carnifex, I intend to use it as a bullet magnet while the rest of my army advances!

Considering that their base cost is the same as the other MCs who out perform them in pretty much every way, and that once you've upgraded them, they've become an even more ridiculous point-sink, there is just very little attractive about them if you have any other options.

I made a planned army list for nids that uses 2-3 of them.

That and some hordes, with a tervigon (or 2) I think?

I planned to force my opponents to have too much to shoot at. Of course dark eldar kinda made monsterous creature spam run under the table these days.

Ithought they were still popular! But I have NEVER seen a Venomthrope on the table

People say that that Venomthropes are stupid with the T4 and only gives a 5+ cover. I run 3 and they are fantastic.

Yes I do miss Carnifexes, althou I generaly miss Nid players. Emperor knows I could murder for something esle than Sm, IG and GK to play against

I've actually seen people play them at my locals. One of the tyranid players uses a Dakkafex or two. I can't recall how many exactly he plays.

I do want to try thr 9 fex list, but alas, they got nerfed big time! Then DE came along with all their poison and then GK came along with all the force weapons It's a tough time to be a canifex these days

I forgot about DE poison and GK force weapons.

Thanx for reminding me. I was about to start spending on a 9fex list!

Biggest wish: I want every thing balanced out. So that every unit is good in some way.
But that won't happen unless GW gives stuff to people other than SM

I'm running them in my list simply because I love the model and think Trygons should still be in Apocalypse only.

They're not competitive, but if your gaming group isn't, who cares?

It really isn't that bad, but when it comes to S8 rockets firing at the venomthrope(s) they just get insta-killed.

A friend of mine who plays Tyranids uses them from time to time, for nostalgia, and in friendly games.

They tend to get annihilated across the board by my Necron Destroyers.

And yet again we come to the concept of cover. Venomthropes hand it out, but hiding them is well worth it. Hide them from sight, and congaline your guants and gants to the Venomthrope. You only need 1 in the unit within 6" to get the whole unit a 5+ cover save.

I an ideal codex, they would be bought in 3's like they are now but handed out individually as squad attachments, like sanguinary priests. Pyrovores too. Kind of like squad upgrades. But we didn't get an ideal codex, but that doesn't mean you can't make Venomthropes work for you.

I see Fexes occasionally, but since their price rise (which overcompensated for their previous undercosted nature) I don't see them all too often. My main Tyranid opponent has since started using his Fexes as Tervigons.
