I've gotten back into Skyrim in these past two weeks, because of mods and some extra free time, so I can take the game at a slower pace. Set it to Master, stopped using fast travel, and I just started exploring. It's more fun than I thought it would be. Played for about 7-8 hours and I'm sitting at level 12 with most locations discovered, but not cleared, and without completing a single quest.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable. |

was really dissapointed a few days ago.
found some kind of a shack. killed a hag and looted the body. she turned out to have a staff of stormwall, i though OMFG!
so i used it, but its nothing i would call a stormwall. it's just like some electricity going upwards, reaching about 3 foot...
-.- *sigh*

I'm not sure wether that is a sword... it's more like a letteropener, really. |

Nah. I actually like the fact that you lose money by leveling smithing. Alchemy and enchanting are broken in that you gain a ton of money leveling them up. So, not only do you get awesome equipment and gain levels, but you also become rich.
Smithing is balanced because you lose money. It's effectively just like training, pay gold to be improve your character.

Could you elaborate here please?
I've not really got into the whole Alchemy/Enchanting thing, although I have done a few bits and pieces, I just go around to kill stuff really.

Let's say an Iron Dagger costs 20 Gold to make, and can be sold for 10 Gold (just pulling the numbers out my rear, here).
So, you lose 10 Gold every time you make an iron dagger (unless you harvest the materials yourself, but that's something completely different).
However, it costs, say, 30 Gold for an average filled Soul Gem. You take that Soul Gem, and that Dagger, and you can make an enchanted dagger that sells for 230 Gold. You profit.

It kinda makes sense. Especially if you are buying the materials to make the dagger.
on a side note, the blacksmith in whiterun is having a sale on iron daggers. something about a surplus

The only things that I have actually bought are Potions and one of the Dragons Claws, oh and Breezehome, Everything else I rob off of corpses, steal off of nasty people or make. Alchemy isn't my bag though.
I do a lot of selling though. I haven't made stuff to sell though, but this will be a new avenue for me though

Unless you craft them from scratch. In that case, you gain money. This is what I do.

Sure, you can harvest the material from scratch but that takes way too much time
Besides, I need SOMETHING to spend all this gold on.
Ancalagon the Black mod = awsome
Finally something that actually scares the out of my character. a real challange for any character, yes even ones that have abused the leveling system.
Prides of Skyrim is also a nice one.

I decided to bear down and play this yesterday - and I ended up going all last night and all of today.
I realized what turned me off in the first place was the main quest/civil war that I had just begun digging into. Lo and behold when I started playing again I didn't go near either quest line, and have been completely sucked back into the game.

No, unfortunantly.
And the Imperials don't get evicted from Skyrim when you finish the Civil War quest. They are still hanging around in their camps like nothings different.
