So back-story first: I was looking at the new albums at HMV and got excited to see there was a new Symphony X album out, with a special edition next to it. So i look at the back of the two as usual to see the difference. And guess what I found on the back of the regular edition, as well as in the artbook of the special edition which I'll scan for you all since you'll want a better look, though it's a bit late.

So, something look familiar?
Spoiler:

Don't worry I'll replace the image with a higher res one tomorrow morning.

So, it's basically a dreadnought! It'll be more obvious in the bigger picture, but it has a DCCW with storm bolter for its right arm and what looks like a plasma cannon for the left. The frame is totally a dreadnought. The front panels are the same as a dread, the only difference is the sarcophagus area.

Thoughts? There's no mention of Warhammer or Games Workshop anywhere in the album, though the track listings are interesting, plus the ones on the bonus: "Light Up The Night", "The Lords of Chaos" & "Reign in Madness"

On top of that it's an absolutely wicked sick album. And that's saying something considering how good Paradise Lost and The Odyssey are.

Perhaps its a homage? I remember seeing an album that was black and white which pretty much had some space marines and a rhino APC with sub-woofers on it with no mentioning of GW at all

Sweet, I just had blind trust in them and bought it.

Don't know the band, but I'm tempted to believe it's this.

Symphony X is a great band! Started listening to them several years back. One of the best symphonic metal bands around.

People like to use GW stuff a lot actually it's cool looking and obscure enough that most people don't recognize it. Here is a blast from the past.

Look at the three guys in the background. What do they look like! I mean those are direct copies of three RT era metal marines, I know, I have them.

Also somewhere I have a Big Audio Dynamite cassette that has a old beaky in the background.

I'm sure they already know. Their main source of income is suing the pants off people, then melting their pants down into finecast models.

Nice artwork. Never heard of the band. I hope it's a deliberate reference to the dreadnoughts, and I sure hope some of the songs were inspired by 40k too. Gonna have to check it out.

Looks like they are secret gamers, an homage definitely seems to cover it nicely, good find though

The entire tracklist sounds grimdark. It would probably work as a 40k soundtrack.

Yeah, but Bolt-Thrower makes no illusions about their 40K/Warhammer fandom. They, specifically, draw upon the fluff and fiction for songs and material. They're basically a fan-band for the setting.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Yup, just look at some of their song names for realm of chaos!

"Eternal War"
"Through the Eye of Terror"
"Dark Millennium"
"Plague Bearer"
"World Eater"
"Realm of Chaos"

Heck the album title is the exact title of a warhammer book

Bolt-Thrower were actually signed to Warhammer records at one point, hence why they used the imagery. As were D-Rok.

I think WD gave away a free flexi disc on one issue, IIRC.
