For those interested, Wednesday the 4th United Artists downtown will be showing Conan The Barbarian (1982). The theater is just a few blocks from the convention center and hotels.

You mean the 3rd? Thursday is the 4th when the show starts.

Whoops, already got my tickets to see Muse that night. Maybe next year, isn't this an annual pre-GenCon event?

Last year they showed the Wrath of Khan but I don't know if I would call it an anual event yet. Even if it is the movie changes each year. Not to many chances to see Conan in the theater.

Only if you don't count the one coming out this summer.

While I actually am interested in seeing that, I am not counting that.

Hmmm if I can get myself away from my date with a bottle and tiny glass I might have to wander over.

Hey, any chance you could hook me up with a ride or share a cab? I'm staying at the JW Marriott by the convention center.

I might be able to, but I can't make any promises yet. I'm still trying to figure out where I'll be staying that night

Give me a PM though, we might be able to swing something.

Huh, GenCon. I remember going to that. Well, going to it until they moved it to a town that smells like a toilet.

Didn't help that their registration system never worked.

Corn syrup processing is pretty bad too, but that's about an hour away from Indy. Indy itself...never had problems with. Maybe it's because it smells good relative to here.

I'm interested to find out of D&D will be somewhat returning to its 'old school roots' as has been hinted at for a while now, or if that was just some sort of weird attempt to do... something else?

They never moved it to New Orleans.

There were definitely some odd smells in Indianapolis, especially the stadium-side of the convention center...

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Walking around Indy is fine. The horse drawn buggies stunk, but horses do what they do, you know?

There are a lot of great restaurants in the area. We have an excellent time at GenCon each year.

The first year at Indy, the registration was terrible. But every year after that has been fine. Pre-registering is the key. I had to go through the line for an event ticket last year on opening day, and it was only 30 minutes. Considering there are 30k people at this event, I wasn't surprised. The Badge Line on Wednesday is pretty bad, though. I guess a lot of people wait until the last minute or don't know that they can make it until the last minute.

And if you have fewer than 6 people in your hotel room, you're doing it wrong...

Guess I am doing it wrong as I will be by myself but will be with 2 other couples, each having their own room. First time going so this is going to be interesting.

Excuse my hyperbole, zyllos. I'm betting you'll have a great time. Bring a camera!

Seeing Khan on the big screen last year was cool. Conan should be fun, as well. Thanks for sharing.

yeah, my basic GenCon advice (from having gone once, last year) is don't over-schedule, be flexible, wear good shoes, and have some plans if you're attending with a group.

I'm hoping to go next year, and while I end up working half the trip (for DP9) I'm still planning on spending some great time with friends. We're thinking of having loose plans in advance for meals and such ("Be outside the convention center at 6:00 if you want to join everyone for dinner" or "Lunch at The Ram") and only want to really firmly schedule 1-2 events a day beyond that. I also want to look at evening events, but then again I missed out on some fun as friends ended up grabbing a table and playing board games and such in the evenings.

Indy, being a largish city, is bound to have smells on occasion, what with a denser population than a rural or suburban environment as well as more complex sewer systems. Generally though I am not seeing the whole "toilet" problem mentioned. Even less so now that major overhauls were done (and being worked on) because the Super Bowl is in Indy in 2012.

Which reminds me, if you are driving in, have fun with all the massive road construction projects.

Hong Kong - now there's a city with some smell to it!

As an old school AD&D fan, I'd love to make the pilgrimage out to GenCon, at least once...

Never noticed any real smells in indy.. well besides some of the game halls that have overnight gamer funk. Though that could be because i'm from Jersey... lol. On a more serious note would be nice to find a place late in indy to crash in, three of us are driving and may be around the area on wed. Our room and rest of our friends are due thursday morning..
