So what did everyone do with regards to setting up buddy systems and the like to get stuff from the UK or the US?

Wayland's ROW section still isn't up yet, not sure if the US can export atm.

So what are your arrangements?

I stopped buying. And started playing more vidjima games. My plan is to buy from GW's UK site when I go back to 40k'ing.

Same. There isn't much to do until Wayland get the embargo sorted. If their solution costs only a few $'s less than national independents here in Oz i'll probably buy here and save myself 2 weeks wait.

Our local gaming group has pretty much died in the a$%e because of the 3 sucker punch combo from GW, so if anything will just continue practicing for Golden Demon when the mood strikes...

I've ultimately reverted to ebay and swap shops.

I've decided that I don't paint/model fast enough to justify buying things in bulk anyway; and the upside of working slowly is that I can handle the waits/disappointments associated with ebay.

Stopped buying.

Although for those that are interested, you can get past the embargo pretty easily by ordering from the GWUK store.

Those leeches! Stealing the lunch money of legitimate independant retailers but undercutting the prices of Oz FLGS! Just wait till GW finds out and they get their retailer account revoked as per the their policies!

I'm very evil.

I have relatives in the UK, who make regular trips over to the OZ. They order from maelstrom, and bring it over when they visit.

It's pretty awesome.

Canned my planned order for a 2000 point Death wing army. Finished off my Dark Eldar, although with less models than originally planned ( a shame, GW did such a good job with the DE).

In general have been thoroughly uninspired to finish painting whats left of my Tau.

Thought about getting into Infinity when I get the time. Some of those models are great.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Cancelled a proposed O&G army because
a) Trade embargo, I can order but the price has crossed a line in terms of how much I have been prepared to pay.
b) a horde of orc boyz, in amongst other commitments, gave me a feeling akin to being stood at the foot of a mountain. Since when should the hobby have become a chore?

So I've started to collect Infinity. The only GW stuff I now buy is BL books, and the odd second hand or bits purchase for my World Eaters.

I can get stuff from the UK if I needed (have enough friends there) but for now I haven't wanted to buy anythings. Just been getting stuck into painting my army. Spent my money on an airbrush and compressor instead.

I bought my wife's BA stuff just before the embargo, and haven't bought a damn thing since. Well, I bought Lakota's SW army (second hand), and might be trading some stuff, but GW isn't getting any money from me anytime soon.
For the first time in my life I can actually afford to play... but like one of the above posters it's gotten a bit rediculous. In the last couple months I would have bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff... if the prices were reasonable. I'd have bought it all from wayland admittedly, but they get their money one way or the other. I just don't get butt:censored: in the process.
So for those who couldn't be bothered reading, buying second hand or not at all. Also looking into cool looking mini's that can count as.

I quit buying GW products and moved to PP. What’s interesting about PP is that there’s no RRP disparity shenanigans with products sold in Aus versus the rest of the world.

I don't buy that much GW to start with (I've spent maybe $200 in the last 2 years). I'll go with one of the local discounters if I absolutely need something, otherwise, I'll skip it.

What helps this is that 40k is not the only game I play and the embargo doesn't affect any of the other games.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Under the couch

I went to place an order online for some Coat D'arms paints yesterday... Not thinking, I was about to bulk out the order with some GW paints and a box or two before I remembered. Dropped the boxes, and went with P3 paints instead.

Miniatures-wise, I think it's unlikely I'll be adding much to the GW collection for a while. It's time to expand the Warmaching collection, and add some Infiity. And I'll be placing an order with Troll-forged just as soon as they get the new plastics listed on their webstore.

Stopped buying.

The occasional paint from the now-killed-forever FLGS (People were justifying buying half from overseas and half from here), but that's all. The buying practically screeched to a halt when the one-two-three punch hit Oz. People made their last orders from maelstrom, then stopped.

The only thing I'm actually upset about is that when Necrons come out, I won't be able to buy as much as I would have from overseas.

But then there's Wayland.

Writing internet fiction is kind of like throwing out messages in bottles into a churning sea composed entirely of messages in bottles, the chances of of your message getting noticed and someone being sent out to rescue you is punishingly slim. But every once in a blue moon, someone who owns a big boat made of money finds your message and agrees to let you ride on his big boat made of money as long as you keep making messages for him.

Because Matt Ward didn't write our Codex. Otherwise we would have had Scything Tyrants with Scything Nidfists that can re-roll re-rolls and that can have a bodyguard of 10 Scything Guards and a Scything Prime that could ride in a Scything Pod. Or something to that effect.

The last of my regular gaming group who weren't already playing other systems quite happily jumped ship to mostly WM/Hordes, and quite a few into Malifaux / Dystopian Wars / Infinity.

It was a case of "we want to spend our hobby money, which company is going to support its customers in the way we'd like?". PP, Wyrd, Spartan Games and Corvus Belli stepped up to the plate with competitive pricing, two-way customer service, tournament support, and fun and engaging rules systems.

Before all the apologists start with "Infinity figures cost just as much as GW" or "A Warmachine army costs the same as a 40K army", that might be the case for you elsewhere in the world, and good for you, but here we pay the equivalent of 44 pounds / $71 USD for single Tactical Squad.

I don't think anyone would try and argue that any other system costs as much as GW's core range

$71 USD for a tactical squad is chicken oriental... wow... that is absolutely, flying rodent gak insane. That's actually the price?

I think everyone in any "embargoed" country needs to get together, find a harbor in their respective country, and empty their GW Paint Pots into it.
Call it a "Paint Party."

Everyone knows that's a great way to start a revolution!
