Hey there, sorry for the bizarrely named title but I couldn't think of one that fitted my dilemma

Basically I've glued together a Dark Eldar Razorwing Jetfighter, giving it Dark Lances, but now want to take them off and magnetise them so that they can be interchanged with Disintegrator Cannons, but the Dark Lances are firmly glued in to the engines (with plastic glue), making it hard to remove them. Can anyone help?

Your going to have to cut the weapon out, plastic glue chemically melts two peices of plastic into what is effectivly one. I recommend and exacto knife and a razor saw.

Best of Luck.

^What he said.

There is no chemical solvent that will dissolve the plastic glue bond that won't destroy the plastic.

Cutting's your only option.

I would suggest switching over to super glue. It is strong enough for just about everything, but is brittle enough that a sharp tug can break the bond. Plus it bonds almost instantly.

Superglue is generally a no-no for plastic (well imo anyway). Iv found that it melts plastic is you use too much and is just a paint to work with with plastic.

Theres something about raiding planets and then bathing in the slaves misery and torment that really gets me. I love DE, and can now play in 2000point matches with the addition of my latest stuff! Kabal of the Purple Blaze.

I also have 2 squads of IG Shock troopers and a Platoon Comand squad as a start to my IG army For Cadia Check out my blog - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/380874.page#3047386

yeah,
If you can get some leverage, by cutting in with a knife then switching to another metal tool, you may be able to tear the bond apart.

but yeah basically it's bonded and needs ripping out, so your going to have a job tiding up.

Panic...

It melts plastic when you use too much because it creates an exothermic reaction (gives off heat) as it cures - more just accelerates the reaction. It gets hot enough to start fires in some cases.

The trick with superglues and plastics is in finding what is the smallest amount you can get away with using. Too little and it doesn't grab enough. Too much and it frosts up.

Thanks guys, I've ended up leaving the guns as I don't want to ruin the model - they're firmly in place, and very fiddly. I don't think I'll use superglue for plastic kits, as I can get more plastic glue for half the price (through Revell). I'll post a link to images of the jetfighter soon
