Looks interesting, I would like to see in more detail how the mini's actually get locked into place.

Looks like magnets. You magnetize your base and they stick to the metal trays that you load in.

Yeah, I know the guy who is featured in the video (he goes to my FLGS), it's magnets. It's an amazing case.

**** Magnets, How do they work?

But seriously, case looks nice. I like the idea a lot. I have a nice Battlefoam bag for mass storage but this looks really nice for taking to tournaments as mentioned.

Yeah, it is reaaaally nice looking. I would not trust this for any kind of serious travel, but for travel to a local tournament this would be awesome. All that time that I usually spend taking models out and putting them on a display board? Now it can be used for relaxing and smack talk.

I wonder how much they'll be?

$200 - 30% right now until August 31st. $140 US for a nice case isn't too bad at all. I may pick up a couple.

I think the discount is only for the accessories.

They stole my idea! It was mine!

I was thinking it'd be cool to scratch build a case similar to that, where you magnetize all your models and use metal sheets as little shelves.

Beaten to the punch again.. woe is me.

@pretre
A few dudes I know in the tournament circuit use these, and they fly with them and say nothing happens to the minis inside at all.

If that is the case, and I see no reason why these guys would lie to me, this case is the business. You open it up, slide out your dude mens and they are ready to play.

I think I will buy a case and then extra trays and this will be my go to tournament case. It just speeds things up so much, plus it serves as a display piece.

$200 is reasonable too, it is cheaper than Battle Foam.

I have Sabol cases, Battle Foam, GW and home made stuff but this definitely looks like the best bet for tournaments.

@reecius: damn. That is cool then. If I was more hardcore (and not quite so broke), I would be all over this thing.

Perfect for armies with lots of models, it usually takes me 15 minutes to set-up and put away my army, and don't even get me started if my opponent wins the dice roll and chooses my side of the table for deployment!

Wow, that's pretty slick! Display and storage all in one! Looks perfect for huge models such as Fantasy Dragons or huge vehicles, that don't fit well in foam. Unfortunately, it doesn't suit my needs. I don't have the luxury of a car, and thus have to carry much of my army while riding light rail or public transit. Models standing up is less space efficient than models lying down. Perhaps if they come up with rows of vertical standing slots with strong enough magnets to have them dangling to its walls, I would be inclined to purchase it.

I had InquisitorMack make me a few magnetic trays a year and a half ago, and they've been great for taking to tournaments:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/263460.page

The only major bummer has been going through doors :-/ and how heavy they are, as they're made out of real wood.

Reecius wrote:@pretre

In my opinion, this is entirely dependent on how strong the magnets are that they put on the bottom of their model's bases (unless I'm misunderstanding something). I've been using sheet magnet, and it works OK. However, one time I took a sharp turn in my car and the tall metal models fell over

Using rare earth magnets works much better, and obviously plastic models have a lot less weight to them and are less likely to become dislodged. Imo, under no circumstances would I check a case like this... perhaps as a carry on, but I think it's too big for that.

Hope that helps... and I'd totally get this if I had the funds at the moment, the handle and vertical stacking would do wonders for me!

Also, from the interview on BellOfLostSouls with the owner of the company:
BOLS Interview wrote:Brent: Where do you see your product in the miniature bag market?
Doug: Bag Market? I think we are in a whole different market position than the foam products. Our cases and modular system take your army to a whole new level of display, storage (showcasing), and light transport. People spend so much time and money on their armies and we want to give them the ability to show off their armies with ease and style.

Hi All,

We took 4 cases, 3 Full-size and 1 Half-size from San Diego to Las Vegas for the Throne of Skulls in the back of my xterra and not one model tipped over. This was about a 4+ hour drive and I've got a bit of a lead foot as well. I even had at least 3 models that were not even magnetized, last minute change of better looking models that I didn't release until I got to ToS didn't have magnets. We use rare earth magnets and for the best effect try to get the magnets to be where they can contact with the tray.

Ah man, even more tempting now...

Could you tell us how heavy they are without models?

Also, do you use rare earth magnets on the bottom of fantasy movement trays to keep them in place as well, or if not what do you do for them? The article mentioned a lot about fantasy, and it does look perfect for it (I'm a fantasy player, and used the aforementioned sheet magnet on the bottom of movement trays... works a little better there as it has more surface area, but still not ideal).

@ RiTides go to the Facebook page and see all the photos of Bobs Skaven Army.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.152528344824683.38847.146328138778037

Bob just used the display boards and his already made movement trays and built a really cool diorama for each Display board. He just set a thin sheet of tin down on the Display board. Not sure if he glued the tin to the foam boarding he used or pined it together. I'm guessing just glue. The movement trays seem to stick to that pretty well.

I'll get you those specs too RiTides

I played Doug(really nice guy too) at Adepticon and after the game he had his ork army packed up and on display quicker than he could find the models. For a table hopping tournament gamer I'd definitely recommend this.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)

Awesome pics, thanks for the link! Having done the method of storing models on their movement trays, it was such a huge time saver, and I'd like to be able to do it again... this looks like the perfect way of doing it.

Yeah, I know I and some of the other zero comp guys are getting at least one of these for tournaments. We go to multiple tournaments a month and the time you save not having to pack and unpack models or lug around a display board is really nice for events. Plus it looms like your dont have to worry about the paint getting rubbed off hour models going in and out of foam.

@ Bat - Yeah, that was a fun game. I believe you gave me one of my worst beatings in a tournament. Wasn't that the game that was streamed live too? Double slap in the face. haha

@Reecius - You are one of those "zero comp" guys yourself aren't you Mr. Native Imperium Laz/Fang spammer? ;-)

btw, I just grabbed a 25mm model, I think he's the Space Marine Serg. from the black reach set. He's just under 2" high. Using him to measure spacing, I can do this with the Full-size case:

6 Display boards with 3x (20x25mm Unit-Trays) in each and the Drawer still in I can fit 360 Marines.

Without the Drawer using 7 Display boards I can fit 420 Marines.

Each row has about .25-.5" clearance to the Display board above with about 1.5" for the top Display board.

Hope this helps guys. I'll get more specs and photos up on the site as soon as I can.

.... so for guys like me that could be a nice size Green Tide list. hmmm 8D

I'd be a bit curious to see how this stacks up against battlefoam.

Well, I tend to prefer an oranges flavor, but they take more time to peel.

My point being, is that you can still compare the two army cases, which are both designed for the same function. Wanting to hear a perspective on someone who has both and tested them both is not something inconceivable.

The idea of paint not rubbing off is why I prefer cases like this... that and it's such a gigantic timesaver. I've been wondering if I was alone as I always feel kind of like the odd man out with my magnetic tray. The more I think about this case, the more I think I will get it, as it's perfect for me.

My only concern is I was planning to, for the first time, fly to a tournament next year instead of driving (Adepticon)... so I don't think this would be suitable :-/. But for everything else I go to, it looks absolutely spot-on.

I think it just boils down to foam vs. magnets. Comparing a specific foam case brand against a specific magnetic case brand just doesn't work without context.

Having tried both methods, I think they both have merit and can even be used together, but the magnet option is not fit for the casual hobbyist.
