Hey Guys, I was thinking of starting a Cities of Death army from scratch and which was best/better one? I like space marines but kind of want to expand past them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well a vulcan SM army can be pretty sick in Cities of death with all those flamers....
Idk though. Do you want 'best' as in 'going to win the most?' or one that really exemplifies city-of-death?

I like the idea of an Urban Guard army, Det charges, Flamers and Heavy Flamers. Hell Hounds, Bane Wolfs and Chem Dogs you could really make an awesome aweseom awesome Guardsmen CoD army.

Either? haha I mean winning would be nice but I like the whole idea of CoD and wanna fully experience it and not just do the same old and win. But I would like a chance to win tho. haha

Tyranids are good since they don't have to worry about heavy fire and they all have move through cover.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Urban Tau would be really cool, fighting through a ruined Imperial world, trying to bring the civilians over to their cause.

Well, I think you might be misunderstanding how Cities of Death works. It's not a codex you build an army out of; the size of the mission means you get one, two, or three stratagems to take. These stratagems are applied to units, buildings, and what have you.

As for actual list building advice for Cities of Death, that depends what army you're running. You'll generally want a lot of flamers, and since the tables are smaller you don't need to mech up as much. Also, vehicles can get hit on their top armor (hits as side armor) so you may want to limit your vehicle choices. Vindicators are great in ciityfights as long as they've got close infantry support though.

Daemons are the worts. They, like Tyranids, are great in combatand should avoid long range firefights.Allof this is ideal in CoD,but deep striking everything is suicide, with all those dangerous terrains and mishaps.

I play CoD quite often and I have Necrons and Dark Eldar and I lose quite often.

But from experience, the best CoD armies are Orks and IG.

Eldar also come into their own in CoD - especially Aspect Warrior Armies.

I want to try Deathwing as having all those 2+ saves and close quarters fighting has got to be in their favor.

Mech IG are the Best cities of death for two main reasons

1.The ammount of Battlecannons and othe high strength ordanance puts most armies to shame.

2. In cities of death There is a Rule which states If a unit with a Vox caster Is within LoS of an enemy Any tank firing at that unit get TL weapons (IIRC).

1. They're all in cover so it's mitigated.

2. Where is that rule, because I don't think it's in my codex. If it existed anywhere it was in an errata/FAQ article for the previous IG dex.

It's not on the codex. I found it on the GW website--> http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=cat440173a&pIndex=2&aId=14600007&multiPageMode=true&start=3#

Tau excel at Cities of Death.

Plenty of cover to take advantage of. Their jet packed XV8's become incredibly hard to deal with.

Actually...

All of this talk is making me want to make my new army for Cityfights and not so much for other uses.

I think it was advertised way back in WD when CoD came out, or in one of the later issues when they were running the Medusa V campaign.

I like the idea of a genestealer horde.

If all you're using are Basilisks, Colossi, Griffons, Manticores, Deathstrikes, and Mortar teams, sure. Don't confuse Barrage with Ordnance.

Which in cities of death an IG player would probably use
