I'm really slow and I was just wondering how slow. If you can say to what standard in the comments that would be great (under table top, table top, high table top, pro etc)

EDIT: I'm talking about a basic troop.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

Depends on the model...are you talking basic infantry trooper? Heavy weapons team? Tank? Special character? etc...

My average infantry take about 2 hours each, although it's a bit less if I airbrush the base coat(which I usually do).

Characters take anywhere from 8-48 total hours depending on what it is. My slann took 48 , whereass my DE sorceress took about 8.

Like aerethan, it depends for me. Since I started Warmachine, I started to spend much more time on each figure in general. Because of the size of the games, it really pays off to spend the extra hours on each mini - specially since the sculpts have so much character.

Cheers,

For basic troups, probably a good 3-4 hours for me. I tend to get distracted, otherwise it might take a little less time.

Characters or models i'm really pushing my skills on can take anywhere from 4 - 6+, though rank and file stuff is only 3-4.

I hate you. I spend like 6 hours on my Orks and they don't look as good, but I guess you've been painting for more than 2 weeks

Perhaps your making a beginners error...for table top quality it is not about detail, it is about cleanliness and crispness.

If you try and paint each mini to a showcase standard you will go bonkers and burn yourself out quickly.

The "coolness factor" takes care of it self when the whole unit is assembled.

These guys were primed gray, sprayed black, highlight sprayed black red followed by flat red, then washed with devlan mud, then baal red, then brush highlighted in flat red.

After that some detail were picked out and decals added. Just keep it clean and everything else will take care of itself.

It takes me about 1 hour for Tabletop but about 2 hours for a High Tabletop. If I were able to achieve Pro I wouldn't be posting now I'd be painting my daemon pince -.-

this should be canon for newbies and tattooed to the front of marine boxes. Then we'd get less primer armies.

i take from 4 to 6 hours for a squad of 5/6 or a character.

rainbow dashing to your side

depends how I feel. If I'm painting nids their lucky if they get anything more elaborate than a few base coats and a wash or two for each colour.

eg...

spray white, paint shell astro grey, wash skin sepia and shell blue. any fleshy bits get a wash of red. teeth are dry brushed bone and eyes are dotted in with green....oh and black for claws. potentially I could get my whole 2500pts army painted inside a week.

Or if I’m painting something like my dread knight I tend to get an itch to do as much free hand as possible so it takes about a day or two to paint

my little space marine army, now 20% cooler http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424613.page

Id depends on which army I'm painting, for my Marines, it takes about four hours for a basic marine(Painting white), and for my Orks, it takes about five hours to do a Nob biker. I havn't really finished painting any Ork Boyz yet, so I have no idea how long that would take.

It's the same with me, entirely how i feel. I like making each member of the my IG squads personal. if i'm in a good attitude, then it can take maybe 2 or 3 hours. but if i'm not, can take all day, but then again i might not be fully focused. all this is to a high table top standard.

It depends on how many extra pieces and bits there are on the model and if I want to make it stand out and look nice.

My method, for IG in this example: Glue legs to base. Add torso. Choose arms/weapon and add. Put on head, pouches etc.

Basecoat black ( spray can, 1 or 2 squads at once), leave to dry.
Paint face/hands/other bare skin.
Repaint boots and base, leave to dry.
Next, hold the model by its base, paint the trousers, then the torso and hat/helmet, leave to dry.
Paint webbing/ anklets/ belts/packs etc, paint weapons.
Do detail stuff like badges.
Add transfers, add flock to base, varnish: job done.

Don't bother with eyes, nobody will see them from gaming table distance.

Try it, it's a quick method, and by doing the painting lightest colour first/darkest last ( roughly), you can often do the lot with 1 brush, cleaned while the last colour is drying.

You'll find that with some practice you can knock out a 10 man squad in about 2 hours . .

About 45 minutes to one hour for a very nice looking model with 3 stages of highlighting.

It's possible to paint a model in 5-10 minutes and have it look good if you know what you're doing.

Maybe I should edit my vote to 6+

It really depends on how I feel, sometimes it can be an hour or two. Other times it can be months.

Still got some CSM to finish off, I think and I got them in January.
