(Apologies if there is another thread on this but I couldn't find anything doing a search)

Bet you all thought I was going to ask if Tycho could join a squad!

Anyway, my questions;

1st) In previous edition it's always been clear that only 1 IC can join a squad. Does it say this in 5th ed and I'm just been a donut or can you have more than 1 IC in a squad? If it does, a pg ref would be much appriciated!

2nd) Does DC Tycho count towards the amount of DC marines when accounting for DC Dreads? I seem to remember WD showing an army with 9 marines and 2 Dreads and thinking what plonkers they were, but did they have DC Tycho? Hmmm?

Any help would be fan-daby-dosey!

1) If one IC can join a unit any amount of ICs may do so.
2) By RAW Death Company models seem to be refering to any models named "Death Company". So Tycho wouldn't count. However, fluff and even his naming indicate that he should count, so just ask your opponent before the game.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I'd say, if you first include Tycho, that's enough of a handicap to accept it. If you include 1 less Death Company marine than required to field a Death Company Dreadnought, that won't matter at all.

Also, just because WD did it doesnt make it correct. They have a bad habit (these days) of just trying to showcase the latest thing and not really paying attention to the rules...

That was my first thought, but after reading somewhere here on dakka about tycho counting I thought maybe they didn't get it wrong. But I can't remember if they had tycho in or not. I'm going to try and find the issue tonight.

I'm a little curious as to what you're basing that on, to be honest... It's never actually been the case.

I think he is refering to the IC section of the 4th ed rules, where it says

"a lone character cannot join another character to make a character unit"

That didn't stop multiple characters from joining the same squad, though.

Oh I know.

What did the OP base it on?

What do you mean "these days"? That's been a problem since at least 3rd ed back when Fat Bloke edited the magazine. He himself even got a squad out of a razorback then fired the squad's Lascannon right after(the very first 4-player Carnage bat rep, if I'm not mistaken).

Was that the same 4-way battle report where a Bloodthirster consolidated 12" up on top of the big ziggurat (sp?), in order to have a nice clash-of-the-titans style battle between three characters?

I like White Dwarf in a dork-pr0n kind of way. "Honest honey, I'm not buying it for the articles. I'm really buying it to drool over the models." <sneaks into the toilet to read standard bearer>

I think that WD list had 9 DC Marines allowing for 1 DC Dread. That made for 10 DC models which allowed for a second DC Dread. Sounds fun to me.
