Humbrol do a nice dark translucent red, or atleast they used to. Its not acrylic, but I liked using it for freshly spilled blood. Plus as its translucent it lets some of the detailing below show through.

Or possibly GW water effects or pva glue with a red wash through it.

Kaela Mensha Khaine, the bloody handed god, or the avatar in his physical form. I think as it goes the arm constantly drips blood (although I could imagine some of it turning to steam from the heat of his body).
Saying that I havent read any Eldar fluff for a while.

I've got some Water Effect... might be worth experimenting with that, mix in some red paint with it

Should work, paint up some sprue in the same colours as the Avatars hand to get a good idea of how it would look, without ruining your gorgeous model

more highlighting in gold done today, plus I've gotten around to doing the white on his body and arms - so I'll be on clean up duty tomorrow where I was a bit sloppy!

As an added bonus, here's the Bonesinger I got the other day - I thought his antlers were beyond silly, so off they came. One went on his head and one on his back - much better (although it does mean that he couldn't turn his head, but who cares, he looks pretty!)

Amazing looking avatar.

What are you going to do for the color of the gems on the armor?

thank you. Where you see talent, I think I see the ability to mindlessly repeat the same technique and to use teeny-tiny brushes.

Gems: I think I'm putting of doing them as there are rather a lot of them! I'm thinking pale/cool blues, purples and greens to contrast all the warmth on him at the moment. The loincloth is going to be a darkish blue highlighted up to bright turquoise, and then the hair I'm not decided on yet - possibly a deep blood red...

not sure how long I've taken so far... erm, probably around 15-20 hours? (it sounds much longer now that I've thought about it!)

Tamiya Clear Red is what I've used for blood/gore. Very thick and syruppy so it looks like an actual layer of liquid over the model.

I would leave out the red, only because I could see the blood instantly evaporating from the crazy heat coming from his body, I would all though maybe add another color to the Helmet, it looks great but a little too bronze. IMO

there's the gems to do which will put a little grunt onto the helmet, and there's the hair as well which will take a little attention away from it - I'm thinking reds/purples or maybe black for the hair...

just a little break from the Avatar - first of the Corsairs, or as I'm going to call them the Fianna Teancuil

>ahem< for those of the nerdly persuasion:
Fianna: (Irish Gaelic) small, semi-independent warrior bands who lived apart from society
Teain: fire
Cuil: fly (as in insect)
Fianna Teancuil = Firefly Corsairs

>nerdism over<

I suppose I should say: this is more of a test than anything else - I wanted more of a Tron look going on with stripes, but I think to do that I need to think about assembly more - leave the arms to last like I did with my Guardians, that'll give me more room to work with.

Thanks dude, but where did you get them/make them from, they look awesome and I do want some. The finished gem looks just right but perhaps you might want to do them so the Avatar is glowing 'into' them like catching some of the light he would radiate due to being a giagantic molten statue?

they're the Forgeworld Corsairs, a conversion kit. You get the heads, weapons, jetpacks and wings - you need basic Guardians to put them on

I'm wary of doing some orientated lighting, in case it looks like a mess! Some of the gems are pretty small, so I'm not going to be able to do too much on them... perhaps some yellow highlighting instead of white?

gems on the leg done. Some are okay and I'm happy with them, others... well, I'm glad that they're pretty small and aren't the main focus!
35 more gems to go on the gauntlets, shoulders and helmet >sigh<

Also started work on the spearhead - rough transitions so far. I need to put more midtones back in, and then brighten up the white more
