No promises when/if this thing gets done... it is a very demanding model to try to do to a high standard, but, it has begun...

Ah, the good old days, when we all aspired to have working pistons, and weathering powders were the new black

It's all about those pistons....

Haven't lost too much, but speed is definitely an issue, both skill based and available time lol!

Will pick at this for the next bit, gorgeous model it was too good to resist

One thing about the LoC, I really wanted to make it insanely colorful, but you can't do it... too many surface types (skin, quills, feathers, leathery scallops, armor) overlapping like crazy... very difficult to scheme out something that is busy because the model itself is already incredibly busy...

Still gonna see how hard I can push, but man given the work it takes I will be pissed if I can't make it work at least a bit...

One of the recent WDs (the one with rowboat girlyman on the cover) had a GD entry of a tzeentchian sorcerer which was also very colourful; maybe that could serve as inspiration?

Oh no, it's not that i can't think of colors that would work well... trust me that is covered.

There are multiple issues compounding each other that encourage restraint... basically all the limbs have a lot of overlap, the head overlaps, and each limb/neck has like 5 different types of skin/flesh on them at least... the 'underbelly' style, the thicker leathery/muscle style, the quill feathers, the feathers, the big plumage. Then add in armor and cloth -

So, you have at minimum 3 different main colors there covering all bare skin, all feathers, all armor. Then up to 7 if you differentiate and add the cloth.

This is before you even get 'colorful' on each individual surface.

So, if you are consitently applying your scheme, you are already dealing with a lot, but then the physical shape of the model complicates that even more - the chest, arms and head all overlap each other heavily and horizontally in many cases... Basically, if you don't show some serious restraint and fore-thought about what you are doing, you may as well just splatter random paint all over it it is so complex from a scheme picking standpoint due to all those factors.

I think this is why over and over again the LoC models end up being colored quite simply, all blue body everywhere, white belly, feathers blue too with accent colors. With the wings you can get away with a bit more, but the body? Yeah gotta be careful.

Yeah, you're the better painter, just the thought you're putting into this shows that :p. Looking forward to the model evolving!

That model is looking so sweet Tom! And "Vincent" is cool, too, I actually didn't realize the right side wasn't just in a photo shadow at first

Very nice work on Vincent and the Lol WIP.
Love the thought put into it. The cynic in me screars "overthinking " but the results bely that.

I know it sounds like overthinking, but trust me, this model is much more challenging to do above tabletop than you would think!

Which is why I haven't touched it since the last post lol, because it is intimidating to work on!

The little color spike feather things really add a nice bit of surprise color. The green on the leg wings seems kind of out of place right now though. Plans to reflect that in the wings or elsewhere?

No feathers are done at all, the colors, including the skittle quills are gonna change, focused on the skin atm, chest and lats, butt and upper legs mostly done, back, tail, lower legs still wip...

This model is mostrously demanding... it's going to take me ages to finish it, but I am happy with my decision to hyper texture the blue/purple/dark skin, it will help create another contrast to the smooth armor later on... reserving true reds, oranges, greens and yellows for accents, the feathers will be be a mix, close to the body, black, with the larger feathers going in a diff direction... I think/hope it will all makes sense as it comes together more!

Looks beautiful Tom, I love the transition from pink to blue, then dark blue to light blue. Wonderful study in both types of blending.

Classic - I love it!

And I do hope you change your mind and paint up a 30K Magnus - as well as a 40K one too...

After this LoC I am not so sure I want to paint Magnus anymore lol... probably going to sell it... this is a ridiculous slog on this model lol.

Still unsure what I am going to do with the outer feathers, could stay teal green and red tipped, or could go to a red/terracotta orange. I have plenty of time to decide at the rate this is going lol.
