Looking awesome dude!
I love how you integrated the whole theme of your army (weird stuff that even the eldar can't explain but its awesome anyways) with the Ynari. The paintjob is ace too!

Thanks man always glad you like my stuff!
I've got a bit of a thing that usually runs around my head that the Eldar are just as ignorant as the Imperium compared to their forebears (pre-Fall and DAoT respectively). They've gone through just as apocalyptic destruction of their civilisation as the IoM. Plus, so much of their history appears to be based in myth which is a thoroughly unreliable way of recording data.
So, it makes sense that most Eldar really don't know what the feth's going on with all this warp-spawned gods of death and creepy prophets with bizarre powers
One of the things in the recent fluff I use to justify that ignorance is what happened with Yriel and the Spear of Twilight.
Iyanden had held that the spear is cursed, and drains the life-essence of the wielder until they're a husk. However, Yvraine showed that if you stab yourself with it after you die you get all of those years back and it brings you back to life.
So, what if the Spear of Twilight is more like a pre-Fall life-essence storage device that actually protects you from death on the battlefield by storing some of your life essence so you can be brought back if you die. Plus, seeing as you can reincarnate losing out life in this lifetime wouldn't be such a problem (but losing your battlefield experience might be).
However, modern Eldar lost the 'stab yourself afterwards' bit to the sands of time so they just think it's some horribly cursed device that slowly kills you...

A while ago I sort of had the idea that it would be a neat idea to do various animalistic-themed things for my exodite HQs. I've got my Stag-like Thaegr and Raodruin, and my avian Myrdolaith.
This guy started off as another Stag-like thing, but evolved into something slightly more Pantherinae.
Meet Sardroath, Beastborn, Sunstalker, Son of Kurnous. Counts-as Jetbike Autarch with Laser Lance.
The exodite worlds of Selesti are populated by many clans and tribes, all under the gaze of Raodruin the High Lord of Selesti. Many tribes perished when Nurgle reigned over their lands, and those that survived were changed irreparably. Each were afflicted with differing conditions as the whims of the Plaguefather manifested over their lands, and each of these afflictions has had a marked effect on their culture.
The Selestini of the Godwoods were protected from direct manifestation by the gnarled boughs of naturally occurring wraithbone that populate their forest. However, they were continually assaulted by legions of plaguebearers, and launched ambushes from their protected glades in response. Their warriors have long learnt the value of stealth and infiltration, as well as the protective power of the adherants of the Cult of Morai Heg.
The Selestini of the Sandspires fled upwards into the mountainous spires of sandstone that riddle their lands. The Blightlord sent his Plague Drones to harvest them, to which they responded with great flocks of feathered warriors to meet them in aerial combat. Over the years, reverence of these ancient aerial combatants has become more and more ingrained into the Sandspires culture. Avian modifications are widespread in the warriors of the Sandspires.
The Selestini of the Dreaming Wastes felt the fertile plains of their lands turn to corrosive acid beneath their very feet. Those who survived were forced to replace their legs with durable wraithbone in order to wade through the acidic swamps to take the battle to the enemy. Over time, these modifications became more and more extreme as they diverged from standard Eldar physiology. In the present day, warriors of the Dreaming Wastes ritually replace their lower limbs with great 4-legged constructs that afford them phenomenal speed and toughness.
---------------------------------------------
I've wanted to do a creepy skeletal-like alien exodite centaur for a while now finally got the pieces to do it it's a mishmash of three Spite Revenants (legs mainly, although the torso flipped on its side formed the basis of the front part of the centaur legs), and some Kurnoth Hunter shoulder pads.
Thinking about the mechanics of how it'd walk is really neat. With such big claws on the front hands it'd have to knuckle-walk like a gorilla at low speeds, but would change at speed to something more feline nice and alien and weird
The inspiration for this came from a quote from the ever-excellent https://ironsleet.com/ and this utterly spectaculr model:
I'm paraphrasing here, but the accompanying fluff stated ' cut off for 10,000 years...just how far from human would a Tech Priest go' which is something that's really stuck in my mind
I'd love to take that idea further with Eldar, but for now this dude is my effort so far!

Thanks guys! I'm having loads of fun making creepy exodites if anyone's got some ideas for more creepy stuff I'd love to hear them!
As for bone and red leaves I really want to make some terrain for these guys that follows the same theme (red leaves and red/brown grass) so it looks like a proper alien forest shame the Citadel woods are £30 a pop!

Thanks dude! Yeah there's something about the phrase 'technobarbarian' that is just so damn cool I'd love to apply it to other high-tech factions as well. I'm thinking that technobarbarian Tau would make for some kickass conversions

That's very nice of you to say!
Also heck YES to tech-barbaric Tau. I can think of like six ways to make that work offhand (pre-unity, long campaign [esp. v orks or deathworld/feudal humans], Farsight Enclaves, Kroot-heavy contingent, &c &c) so you should get cracking.

Ynneadwraith wrote:Thanks guys you flatter me! All the bits and pieces are there on the original model, it's just hidden behind a boatload of swirly AoS gak (and a couple of odd stylistic posing decisions, like the Blue Peter 'and here's one I made earlier' rune in the right hand).
To be honest, you'd be 90% there with just three little changes that anyone can do.
1. Cut the leg off above the knee with a sharp knife (bread knife might work nicely as you can get a bit of a sawing motion going on). Spin it round 90 degrees towards her left and re-glue
2. Clip off the swirly gak below the arm, grip the arm at the shoulder and rotate the arm downwards (mine split the shoulder, but you can fill that up with GS or little plastic shavings and glue like I did because I'm a GS luddite).
3. Take your clippers and clip off the (her) left-hand corner of the neck stub along the length of the neck, which has the effect of rotating the head around so she's looking where she's pointing.
You might have some troubles with attaching the hair at that point, but a little GS might solve that neatly (or you might be lucky and the hair sort of falls into the right place).
Not as hard as it sounds just a little nerve-racking on a £20 model!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Only a little update today. Weekends are for car work (or, in this case, block laying) and I've put off one too many things to get away with another evening of 40k :S
This little guy I'd half put together ages ago as a sort of test for another Autarch model. However, there's a little face on the Yncarne swirly stuff that's its own little separate bit you glue into the rest of the swirl. I thought it was a kickass bit, but couldn't think what to do with it at the time.
Then, I read in passing that the reason Altansar Eldar never show their faces is because they all look like exquisitely preserved corpses (it was Ynnead that protected them during their time in the warp, and apparently that has side-effects). Not only is that a kickass bit of fluff, but it also gave me a little lightbulb moment for the kickass floating face
So, here he is
I think I've decided on the name 'Idravain', an Altansari Autarch that acts as a bodyguard for my Ynnari Prophet (who I've decided will be called Khal'Fhirin, which means 'Herald of Truth').
Couple of thoughts on this guy.
First off is the whole prophet/bodyguard thing. Thinking about how the Eldar in general feel about symbolism, it would make sense that once the Ynnari split off into the webway to spread the word of Ynnead (during the final Gathering Storm book apparently), each little cell might gravitate towards a prophet/bodyguard model as a leadership structure. So, this guy's the reckless beatstick to Fhirin's reason
Second, I felt slightly like the Eldar got a bit of a free pass with Ynnead bringing them back from the dead. There has to be a catch. This is the 40k universe we're talking about. Don't trust a Death God bearing gifts as the saying goes
So, I thought what about each time you're reborn you come back...changed...slightly. A little like the Stormcasts. Each time you come back, you come back as slightly less you. By the look of this guy's face (which being Altansari wasn't exactly easy on the eyes to begin with), you might even come back slightly more daemonic too...
Oh, and now the Ynnari are out in the open, he doesn't feel the need to hid his half-dead daemonic-looking face. In fact, the fact that he looks bl**dy terrifying comes in quite handy as a bodyguard...
Sorry. I don't know how to spoiler tag a post, but,...
The right handed power sword on this guy... where do the hand sword and arm come from. Did you witch down the Dire Avenger arm and reposition it?

No worries it's the sword from the plastic Autarch kit. It's actually a bit beefier than a standard Dire Avenger arm so you have to shave down the socket slightly to get it to fit nicely in the DA torso, but it's really easy to do

The dysjunction sent colossal tremours through the very bedrock of Commorragh. Towers crumbled as ripples cascaded through reality. Gaping tooth-lined chasms opened up beneath the ground, spewing forth great legions of daemons into the stricken city. Even Ynneadlidh, far far beneath the beseiged streets was in danger. Gnawing gnashing eyeless daemons flooded its pitch-black tunnels, skittering out from the cracks in the fabric of the realm. The haemonculi were no strangers to military forays, but never before in their history had they come close to anything approaching mobilisation.
Vast legions of wracks poured forth into the tunnels, their odd sidling gait belying the surgical precision with which they fought. Hulking beasts of foreign flesh rampaged through the myriad winding corridors, but still the daemonic horde pressed onwards. For the first time in milennia, the twisted denizens of low Commorragh felt the prickle of fear on the back of their necks. Half-formed experiments were unleashed, some wildly effective, others disappointingly incapable.
Malkarta hurriedly adjusted the final few synaptic bridges on her latest prototypes, their forms motionless aside from the steady undulation of their breathing. She nodded to the wych-clone beside her, who hesitated slightly before walking forth into the beast's embrace. Heavy muscles clamped tightly around her skull, and sinuous neural needles pierced the back of her neck painfully, worming their way into her motor cortices. Sharply, her senses bloomed across the creature, overlaying its primitive standby consciousness. She tested a brief arm movement and the creature mirrored it, a slight twitchiness marring the otherwise perfect maneuver. "Good enough," Malkarta barked, "hub-bound tunnel 8. Now.". The deep thrum of the fearsome creature's anti-grav mechanisms burst into life and the pair stalked out through the subterranean depths.
I've been wanting to do one of these for aaages ever since I saw this utterly stunning conversion that I've shamelessly cribbed
If I'm perfectly honest, I prefer the other guy's one but Wraith tails are pretty hard to come by :S still happy though!
