Thanks guys! Glad you like them
Ive got the first few bits of Yvraine together, but i'm rooting through my old boxes to find some decade-old GS i think i have so i can fill out her legs
I do have some of the Yncarne together though and i'm really excited to share it when it's done enough to look like something
One thing i will note though. The Yncarne is definitely a she. Someone spent far too long sculpting her backside for it to be a bloke

Well that settles it. We must now demand artwork and an official model of Slaanesh so we can check out he/she/its booty to confirm once and for all if Slaanesh is male or female.
I agree though Ynnead, to me the Yncarne has always looked predominantly female, even without that booty I'd still believe it was designed to be female.

Damn! Two weeks of absence and I miss a lot of great stuff -.- This thread is so inspiring to me, I'm going to build a Ynnari army, or at least a group of conversions which refer to Ynnead in some way. There will be some soul/ghost stuff, can't wait to start xD Well, a lot of your ideas will be copied! For example your Sylandri...
But enough of my plans... I really like your low-budget Lelith conversion, thats very close to the original. The bio-tec arms are something new^^ Also the shardnet/impaler girl reminds me of Drazhar
The Visarch conversion is very cool. I like the actual model too much so there w'ont be any conversion.

Thanks man! I'm flattered! I'd love to see what you come up with everyone takes their own unique spin on things, even if they get the idea from somewhere else so it's always interesting to see
Oh, and speaking of that the Sylandri conversion is something I copied! RollingAwayTheStone came up with the idea and I think 2 or 3 of us instantly copied it!
You're right, she is a little Drazhar-like. Didn't plan it that way, but the arms are very fitting I really hope they make a plastic Drazhar (with new rules while they're at it!). He's such a kickass character he should be at least as killy (if not more) than the Phoenix Lords...
I really like the standard Visarch too. If I get some spare cash I'd happily buy him individually from a bits site and make him standard
As for updates...
I've exhausted my supply of procrastinating on adulting things and finished putting together my Yncarne
What a mission! Took enough brainpower working stuff out that I don't even have a coherent set of pics for a WIP process :S
Some highlights though:
1. Cutting off the right leg just above the knee to rotate it so it looks like she's walking forwards, but forget to hold the lower leg in place so it pings off into the aether. Spend 20 minutes tearing the room apart trying to find a bit it will cost £20 to replace, before realising that in a singular statement of solidarity it had ricocheted and landed in my bits box...
2. Spend 15 minutes reposing the right arm in various different ways because I wanted to make a right-handed scythe, but then decide that the sword looks cool so I'll keep that instead.
3. Spend 10 minutes carving a little half-teardrop (for the blank facemask) out of sprue because I'm a luddite when it comes to GS, and again forget to hold it in place so it pings off into that aether again. Spend 20 minutes tearing the room apart again to try and find this teeny tiny mote of plastic before saying 'sod this' and making another one.
4. Settling down for the long-haul holding this big ol' unbalanced model steady while the tiny little contact point between the foot and the base glues in place.
Not my most stress-free modelling experience! Definitely an exception though (don't want to put anyone off, I was massively ambitious with this...). Hope it was worth it!

Ynnead you are a conversion beast. Seriously this is way cooler than the base Yncarne model (and I like the base model) and it tells such a great story! It shows that otherworldly aspect of the Yncarne and has a visual representation of how she works to boot. The pose is also much more dynamic and shows her charging forward as opposed to just standing there. Seriously dude I can't overstate enough how cool this conversion is, I'm in awe. I can't wait to see it painted up in all its glory.

Haha thanks guys!
Yeah I like the base Yncarne model too, and I was half-tempted to just glue it together normally after rotating the leg, head and dropping the arm. That would be simple enough and still impart the idea of movement (although getting the hair to mate up might prove tricky).
Glad I pushed on though making the Guardian was worryingly enjoyable :S perhaps I should play Slaanesh daemons!
For paint schemes I could do with a bit of input actually. I'm going to try for a sort of ghostly ethereal look, with the base and Guardian being quite rich colours, whereas the Yncarne herself will be my standard Ushabti Bone over whatever the replacement for Snakebite Leather is called (drawing a blank on that one!). Then I'll pick out the runework with Runelord Brass which is nice and washed out.
The hair will probably be a lighter version of that, with maybe an extra step of Pallid Wych Flesh over the top.
What about the soulstuff though? Similar to the hair? Maybe with a reddish tint to it? Or should I just pick out the soulstones in red as a spot colour as red is very sparsely used on my Ynnari...

I like a heavy hand with the spot color for centerpiece models. Like in individual trooper might have one spot of red and a sea of brown, your HQ stands out in the same way from the ranks of troops.
You want them to match the palette enough to belong together, but stand out enough to show who’s in charge.
Nice work on the conversions, now slap that paint on!

Thanks guys i was actually thinking about adding another guardian dead on the floor. Someone mentioned that there was a lot of blank base so that could help fill it out.
Normally i'm with you on the spot colour front with HQs, but i dont think that'd fit the picture in my head of a ghostly apparition for the Yncarne.
I'm thinking that most of my models are done entirely in warm colours, so if i go a step above in brightness with a cool colour for the swirly stuff then that should stand it apart...
Shall do some testing

One thing I'd steer clear of is making the hair and ethereal stuff to similar in colour, they are both big flowing parts but they have very different sources and textures, it's a great opportunity for contrast. I'd do the swirling soul stuff in a cool blue or teal then perhaps a warmer colour for the hair? I'd try base white, apply a wash of watered down carroburg crimson then highlight with pallid wych flesh, it makes sense in my head but you'd have to do a bit of a test to see if it works out for you.

Hmmm, interesting. I've definitely come around to the idea of making the hair and ethereal stuff a different colour. I'd originally planned on having them pretty close but you've swayed me
Not so certain on the blue though. There isn't a speck of blue on any of my Eldar models, so it'd probably look out of place.
I do love the idea of making it a sort of washed-out red though. Rather than the hair in carroburg crimson with pallid wych flesh highlights I'll try the swirly stuff that way I had sort of an idea to do the internals around that big node of energy in her abdomen in a sort of dark red so it sort of looks a bit like internal organs of some sort. That'd fit nicely with a washed-out red for the swirly stuff
Also, a thought that's just occurred to me. I wonder if the Visarch's cloak/fur/feathers thing is a subtle nod to this kickass pic of a Corsair Prince:
I wonder if anywhere is selling the Triumvirate models as individual bits? If I can get the torso and cloak of the Visarch I'm fairly certain I have various bits lying around to make something similar to that dude...

Thanks guys you flatter me! All the bits and pieces are there on the original model, it's just hidden behind a boatload of swirly AoS gak (and a couple of odd stylistic posing decisions, like the Blue Peter 'and here's one I made earlier' rune in the right hand). To be honest, you'd be 90% there with just three little changes that anyone can do. 1. Cut the leg off above the knee with a sharp knife (bread knife might work nicely as you can get a bit of a sawing motion going on). Spin it round 90 degrees towards her left and re-glue 2. Clip off the swirly gak below the arm, grip the arm at the shoulder and rotate the arm downwards (mine split the shoulder, but you can fill that up with GS or little plastic shavings and glue like I did because I'm a GS luddite). 3. Take your clippers and clip off the (her) left-hand corner of the neck stub along the length of the neck, which has the effect of rotating the head around so she's looking where she's pointing. You might have some troubles with attaching the hair at that point, but a little GS might solve that neatly (or you might be lucky and the hair sort of falls into the right place). Not as hard as it sounds just a little nerve-racking on a £20 model! Automatically Appended Next Post: Only a little update today. Weekends are for car work (or, in this case, block laying) and I've put off one too many things to get away with another evening of 40k :S This little guy I'd half put together ages ago as a sort of test for another Autarch model. However, there's a little face on the Yncarne swirly stuff that's its own little separate bit you glue into the rest of the swirl. I thought it was a kickass bit, but couldn't think what to do with it at the time. Then, I read in passing that the reason Altansar Eldar never show their faces is because they all look like exquisitely preserved corpses (it was Ynnead that protected them during their time in the warp, and apparently that has side-effects). Not only is that a kickass bit of fluff, but it also gave me a little lightbulb moment for the kickass floating face So, here he is I think I've decided on the name 'Idravain', an Altansari Autarch that acts as a bodyguard for my Ynnari Prophet (who I've decided will be called Khal'Fhirin, which means 'Herald of Truth'). Couple of thoughts on this guy. First off is the whole prophet/bodyguard thing. Thinking about how the Eldar in general feel about symbolism, it would make sense that once the Ynnari split off into the webway to spread the word of Ynnead (during the final Gathering Storm book apparently), each little cell might gravitate towards a prophet/bodyguard model as a leadership structure. So, this guy's the reckless beatstick to Fhirin's reason Second, I felt slightly like the Eldar got a bit of a free pass with Ynnead bringing them back from the dead. There has to be a catch. This is the 40k universe we're talking about. Don't trust a Death God bearing gifts as the saying goes So, I thought what about each time you're reborn you come back...changed...slightly. A little like the Stormcasts. Each time you come back, you come back as slightly less you. By the look of this guy's face (which being Altansari wasn't exactly easy on the eyes to begin with), you might even come back slightly more daemonic too... Oh, and now the Ynnari are out in the open, he doesn't feel the need to hid his half-dead daemonic-looking face. In fact, the fact that he looks bl**dy terrifying comes in quite handy as a bodyguard...

Swapped over the tabard on Raodruin back to the Visarch one and I think it looks better brings the balance of Wood Elf to Eldar to a bit of a better place plus, the little face armour plate is more than a little Greene Man-esque so I like that
Also took the opportunity to do a bit of a Rogue's Gallery of my exodite HQs I must admit I'm chuffed to bits with these guys! They really look to me like some eldar that walked into some mysterious forest just after the Fall and have emerged twisted in ways that would thoroughly disconcert your average craftworlder
I've also started work on painting my Yncarne most of her actual body is done now. The only bit that's unpainted on the body is the node of energy in her midriff. Also close-ups!
I'm slightly unsure as to how to progress at this point actually. The base and the Guardian are pretty straight forwards, but I really don't know what I want from the swirly soulstuff. I was all set to paint it as a sort of washed-out red (not quite sure how yet), but seeing how ghostly the rest of her has turned out has kind of made me want to do it ghostly as well. Perhaps starting out a bright white where it exits the Guardian's soulstone and then working its way through to opacity the nearer it gets to the Yncarne.
I feel like with the standard model you have to paint the swirly stuff differently as there's so much of it she'll get lost in the middle if she's all the same colour, but mine uses maybe a fifth of the stuff you get in the box, and considering she's physically made of the stuff it would make sense to have her the same shade...
What do you think?

Really like Idravain. Between the back banner and his demonic visages he comes across as very samurai in nature. The Yncarne is coming along pretty sweet, too. Using the primary colors in the energy swirl will really drive home that she is powered by or coalescing from it.

You're right youwashock Idravain does look Samurai-like, which is fitting as well as a loyal semi-fanatical bodyguard character
Glad you guys like how the Yncarne's coming along too and yeah I did carve the right-hand side of the face to look a little more skull-like. Not actually too difficult really as it's mostly there already. All I did was use a drawing pin to poke out the eye socket, clip off the nose and do the same with that (if I was leaving the living side of the face in tact I'l leave the nose be).

Thanks man! Glad you like them especially the Altansari dude.
I've actually done a little more on the Yncarne today. Alas I'm apparently incapable of painting something that's not sepia! I tried a ton of test bits of spare swirly stuff and couldn't get the sort of washed-out red look I was thinking of.
So, here's what I ended up with
Just thinking about it, what I've actually done is faded from quite a bright white at the Soulstone through to the sepia of the body colour (not sure how well the pics show that, or how well I've done it to be honest!). I suppose I could use that as pre-shading for a really light red wash of some sort. I'll do some test pieces
The other option is to continue the dark red wash I've done on the inner holes of the energy (which looks more prominent in real life) all around each contour so it sort of looks like it's backlit in red.

Great project blog, the hunters really stick out for me. The Glade Guard/Kalabite/Guardian combo makes for perfect Exodites. I've always been a fan of focusing on the basic infantry in an army and giving them as much character as possible, and that shows here
I was thinking about your Yncarne, perhaps you can paint it differently from the other units and have it really stand out! It might be wildly outside of your comfort zone, but how about instead of a washed out red, you make the soul energy a really vivid red? You could go to town adding layers from the deepest crimson to almost white. I was looking for examples on Google, and I found this...

Yeah the hunters are some of my favourites too it took me a little while to get something that felt right for them but I think I struck on something that works nicely I'm actually thinking about going back to my Guardian counts-as and re-doing them in that style too, although the Kabalite and Guardian torsos are a good visual distinction.
Ooh a vivid red would look cool I definitely like that sword. I'm wondering how to do that based on the existing paint scheme.
Perhaps if I make myself a really thinned down red wash then I can apply it selectively layer-by-layer to go from a bright red (showing the white underneath) down to a really deep red like I've washed into the recesses.
Shall do some test pieces
