This question got asked a few weeks ago. Forgeworld is worth it if you feel it's worth it to you. If you've got the money and can justify it, go for it.

It's a pretty subjective thing, really. To some, any money spent on wargaming is a waste of cash. Others might note that even Forgeworld can be cheaper than many other hobbies.

I don't think it's worth it, but I don't control your wallet and wouldn't judge you for spending your money on them unless it was harming you to do so. I.E pay the rent first.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

It's absolutely worth it. I wish I had more money to spend at FW. I think my wish list is pretty close to 3K Usd. Hoping for better days to pay my FW bill.

I'll use FW stuff for the odd centrepiece - got a Cadian HQ in the post to make a Deathleaper mini-diorama - but for general purpose it seems difficult to justify without a professional's income.

Unfortunately, my insight into your disposable income is limited. So who can say?

Generally speaking, Forge Worlds makes great sculpts and then produces them as poorly as possible. As I prefer to limit, if not eliminate, my deals with companies that outsource their QA departments to their paying customers, I eschew FW for anything other then the un-proxy-able (Tomb Stalker).

In the specific case of your Cadian Shotgunners, it's a trivial conversion for even someone of limited talent; use lasguns or maxmini or SM scout shotguns or flamers, all of which are cheaply had. So you're essentially paying for the sculpts. Are they worth $4 each to you? Personally, I don't think I'd buy Sergeant Bandagehead, but like I said, who knows what you think.

I think the forge world models are great. It's the shipping costs I'm wary of. If you're based in the UK though, i may be a different story entirely.

This is my take as well. Although, I know they're good about replacing things- it just doesn't seem worth the cost.

I've gotten 2 finecast models now, and am finding that resin Really isn't my thing... so forgeworld has little appeal for me.

Case in point- converting to US dollars, 3 FW trolls will cost me $70. The plastic river trolls are excellent sculpts, and $45 for 3... which is already quite high. So, I just can't justify the expense, and I'm quite surprised at the people who can... given all the alternatives out there.

The dreadnoughts are worth it but they're generally the same price as GW new in box models. Hopefully they don't catch onto that.

maybe I'm missing where you're going with this, but a ironclad dreadnought/seismic hammer/hurricane bolter from FW is $67USD. A GWS ironclad is $44.50, can be had from most discounters for $38 shpped, and has 4 different arms, not 2. The other dreadnought variants are the same.

Some pieces could be worth the cost. Having the various Tau suits are for instance an interesting addition to a Tau army that adds a bit of spice.

If you can live with FW's questionable (READ: non-existent) QA practices, then FW is certainly worth it. I will warn you though, the Cadian Shotgunners are a very strange kit. Their torsos are smaller than the legs they go onto, almost as if the resin parts have been created in 28mm scale (whereas plastic Cadians are 28mm Heroic scale). This means that their upper torsos are out of proportion with their lower torsos. It's weird.

Aren't their full range IG models like Death Korps proper 28mm? Wouldn't surprise me if they case the IG conversion parts in 28mm, even though it doesn't make much sense.

I know the Death Korp models are, and the few full resin Cadians I have appear to be.

When I looked at getting a FW Dreadnought, the price of the Dread body was about the price of a GW Dread.
This is without arms.
If you use the arms from a GW Dread, it's about the same, but you'd need to buy both.

I own a lot of forge world models but is it worth it? Not really.. Only reason I have the models is because my disposable income is high enough to afford it.. However I dont really consider FW models money "well spent"

On average FW models are high quality detail on low quality resin

I didn't realize the arms were sold separately. Unfortunate. Well, at least the whirlwind is still cheaper through forge world.

I currently own the Iron Warriors Dreadnaught, Plague Marine Torso's / Shoulders, and the Nurgle Terminator torso's / Shoulders.

I like the models a lot, i'm not concerned with what I spend either especially with not being a fan of GW Finecast. The shipping was fine as it was a bulk order with around 20 guys splitting it. If you want a original unit or theme to your army, and the cost is not a concern it can be worth it to the individual. However, you are really not getting anything you could not obtain or build in other manners.

To me, I like the models and the Dread. They make my army have the look I was going for, so I feel comfortable with my purchase.

Nice find on the Whirlwind! I think the FW one is actually nicer looking too, I prefer the smaller missiles.

I plan on buying some inquisition rhino doors and mkIII armor, but then again I also intend on using my casting skills in less than legal ways to offset the initial cost of FW.

When the pound took a nosedive in 2008 I went through and gamed a lot of prices. For a while razorbacks were cheaper through FW as well. The whirlwind used to have price parity with the razorback, for some reason GW thought it was somehow worth more despite just being a different weapon rack on a rhino, after that FW became pretty standout. I too prefer the forge world model.

As has been said before FW is worth it if you can afford/justify it. The models are great.

I decided to save some money and try to use plastic stuff to convert my valks for vendettas.

Buying bits from ebay and looking on here, for like. 5-10 bucks more, I could have got the vendettas kits from them. Now if I get lucky, I saved myself... 60 bucks so far.

That being said, Forge World is totally worth getting stuff from depending what you want. I suck at conversions so trying to build my own medusa would not end pretty. I am spending like 500 bucks at FW tomorrow!

As a complete side note... I was looking at Autocannons on FW for doing a Rifleman Dreadnought. It's kinda annoying they don't even match. Luckily, a google search returned this thread and I wound up getting an Aegis Defense Line instead from Bitzbarn. So, $10 less , shipped, then from FW (they don't even have both in stock anyway), you get some scenery, and it comes in around a week instead of in around a month. Not to mention they'll match.
