Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!
|
Due to lots of fluff reading, I am a bit confused...
On one hand, the Imperium is ''Super mighty, awesome, and is unbeatable''.
On the other hand, a Necron scout ship destroyed a battle cruiser with one beam (going in from the armoured front, and coming out of the back.
Let's take another example:
The tyranids are devouring everything, and getting closer to Terra by every minute.
On the other hand, the Imperium is heroically defending the tyranids, and slowing them down alot.
So... which race will most likely triumph in taking over the galaxy?

None. The entire thing exists in a state of dynamic equilibrium. Each race or faction has their own plans and these are often mutually exclusive.
The Tyranids are vast in numbers but the Imperium has taken to diverting them to hit other alien races, such as Orks. All races also have an interest in fighting the Tyranids because they all have their own plans for the galaxy. In the Tyranid Codex, it mentions how some Eldar Craftworlds have recently taken to using ancient weapons to burn worlds to cinders in order to deny them to the Tyranids. The Chaos gods and their servants want to enslave the galaxy under their own regime, and would not want the galaxy wiped of life. The Necrons want to separate the warp of the galaxy from realspace and to create stable populations of feeding stock for the C'tan, and so would also eventually come into conflict with the Tyranids on a larger scale.
The Eldar are tiny in number compared to other races but still have ancient artifacts and the prophecies of their farseers. They continue to manipulate and play the other factions off each other, and can still be intervene to break stalemates.
The Dark Eldar though acting for their own selfish reasons are also a wildcard as they can attack all other races for slaves and to inflict pain.
The Orks are numerous but not united. They exist across the galaxy in their own empires which can be potentially individually picked off. However they also have their Waaghs where they all swarm to what looks like a good fight.
Chaos with its recent 13th Black Crusade has finally broken through the Cadian Gate (as per the Eye of Terror White Dwarf results which was a minor Chaos victory). Abaddon has been sighted in the Thesus Sector in a once more operational Planet Killer (as per Apocalypse). The Imperium has drawn forces from elsewhere to meet this, so Abaddon's drive towards Terra may be slowed to a crawl however.
The Tau have taken advantage of this large scale troop movement and continue to nibble off worlds along the Imperium's edges both through military, diplomatic, and economic means. They remain a small local power that others could still potentially defeat, only everyone else has bigger fish to fry.
The Imperium in all its forms is beset on multiple fronts. Though a galactic superpower, it does not have the breathing space necessary to decisively put an end to any one threat. Resources though vast are still finite, as evidenced by the fact it had to strip its borders to reinforce the area around the Cadian Gate. Diverting Leviathan onto the Orks itself was a tacit admission that the Imperium could not directly face the Tyranids in a brute force war of attrition.

-Imperium is being overwhelmed by so many wars/threats and is declining with every passing year. Even though a major Tyranid/Necron incursion will probably not get to Terra, it could still throw the rest of the Imperium into anarchy and leave the High Lords with only Segmentum Solar as their realm. And with the Emperor's death inevitable, the Astronomican and thus Warp Travel/Communication, the lifeblood of the Imperium, is gone.
-Necrons/Tyranids are currently the 2 biggest threats to the Galaxy imo. You have things like the Outsider returning and the primary Tyranid Hive Fleet. They'll duke it out across the realm of humanity as the Imperium collapses.
-Chaos can't get past Cadia.
-Eldar are a dying race anyway.
-Orks will fight on as if nothing is new. They're Orks. Replace squishy ummies with metal men and big bugs. They'll probably like it more as they Necrons/Tyranids won't run away or hide behind stuff. A good proper fight.
-Commorragh will collapse once Vect dies into a Somalia-style situation and that will occupy the Dark Eldar at least for a while. They'll be safe in the webway and continue on slaving.
-Tau will be overwhelmed by Tyranids.

Well i guess orks will win in the end, or at least they'll be the only thing left along with tyranids. That "imperium always wins" fluff is just advertisement to get new recruits .
Now really, they said that orks will chrush everything should they truly unite, and, considering the fact that they cannot die out and it only takes a lucky spore to become the ultimate leader, they'll win.

Chaos. An enemy that's more than capable of taking on both the Tyranids and the Necrons. Although they'll most likely just manipulate the galaxy into another cycle of unending war, that's what they want. The C'tan are nothing compared to the Chaos Gods. The Horus Heresy deserved nothing but a flicker of their attention, and look how that turned out. Eternal Chaos.

Necrons will win being self reparing in all. As well as the fact nids can't eat metal just destroy allowing necrons to sef repair and come back.
Also eldar though will be third due to the fact that they are self sufficient and can run away and possibly just leave the the universe if need be.

Though I would absolutely love to say Chaos, something is steering me towards the C'tan or Tyranids... I've recently spectulated that the Tyranids were sent by the Old Ones as a last resort to starve the C'tan by devouring all life themselves, kind of like the Halo Structures in Halo that would starve the Flood. Maybe we can say that the Imperium is finally falls ultimately due to Chaos, but in the end, it will all come down to the Tyranids and Necrons...

The imperium. Mainly because if they go, the tau and eldar will get fethed, owing to the fact that the imperium absorbs a huge amount of firepower that would otherwise be directed to them, if only partially. Knowing this, the eldar and tau would probably perform some tactical interventions, literally for the greater good.

Daemons!
While the CSM may be stalled, the gods themselves can do whatever they like. And all of the war and destruction in the galaxy only fuels their evil natures. And should any faction start winning, the gods unite and end that particular threat to their endless war. Look what they did to the the imperium when it looked like they were about to win.

Mighty Ghazzkull Urg Margret Thatcher will unite the orks with other warbosses as generals and crush the humies into pink squishy fluid. Then they will let the the nids eat the tau and then shoot the nids into green jello
Then make sure deamons and necrons fight in the warp for eternity by thinking that it will
The imperium will be overthrown in weeks as ghazzkull sits on the thrown of terra an squishes the emperors head with his power klaw and uses his skull for a urinal for his squigs

(When I played Tyranids) I used to think that Tyranids would eat everything. Kind of fanboyish now thinking about it. Now i think that....
No one will win. The galaxy is an eternal stalemate. Maybe a few things will change (Imperium of Man shattered, new smaller human empires being founded) but in the end it will still be an eternal war with Status Quo as the ultimate god. In fact, the three most powerful forces cancel eachother out extremely well. Necrons defeat Tyranids because they have no biomatter, Tyranids defeat Chaos because of "Shadow in the Warp," Chaos defeats Necrons cuz of Chaos. Rock, paper, scissors.

Yeah I vote the Imperium. Arm humans with sticks and they can still win. The fluffs bad for numbers, but seriously.. there must be a couple of trillion humans. They could win with cricket bats if it came right down to it.
Put some hive worlds on wellfare and they will breed even faster. Have you seen how many kids people on the dole have?
Id put a hive world on the dole and parachute special brew and microwave pizza down to them once a week, inside two generations the Imperium will have a quintillion new Guardsmen.
