Hey All,
I'm just looking for some feedback on the new Space Marine demo that's available on XBL. I plan on downloading it tonight when I'm home.

Anyone played it yet?

XBL? Pfft, Steam.

I'm going to admit this: I was wrong about Spacemarine. It's good.

Spoiler:

The feel of the Marine isn't quite right but this is a beta build (I hope) and the botlers don't feel satisfying enough either, feels like I'm firing a heavy MG while some one whacks a bucket with a hammer.

It's also tougher than I expected it to be. You can't just wade in to the Orks and expect to be left standing afterwards.

It does certainly deviate from the fluff, thats immediately apparent withint minutes of starting the game.

Also, the two buddies coming along for the ride could just as soon not be there.

The scale of the marines aren't 100%, but the guardsmen do certainly look like teenagers compared with the marines. I think the marines need to be atleast half a head taller.

I got it. It's epic, really. Relic did a fantastic job getting the feel of the universe, and the ability to go from ranged combat right to hacking and slashing is very fluid.

I was on the fence about this. Now I'll be using Amazon Prime to order it when it comes out.

I downloaded it right before lunch and played right after. It was amazing. I loved the feel of it, both combat and shooting, and the Nobz were quite a bit more difficult, enjoyably so. A lot of dodging was required. Man, now I have to buy ANOTHER game opening day...(second game ever bought on opening day was MK9...)

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If anyone is feeling that Titus and friends seem underpowered then just play the game on easy. Hard and Normal are great gaming fun but if you play on easy then the game becomes fluff Marines. Seriously, try it out, it is actually really fun. It may be the first time that I'm actually going to play through the easy mode after playing it on hard.

I found the first mission harder than the jump pack mission. The jump pack mission was silly fun. The first mission was harder until you figured out how to do the hard slams on the nobs and make the vengeance grenades explode.

A guy on another forum I go to has the same issue and I've had the issue a few times with games in the past.

People suggest a couple of things, restart Steam, restart your PC, etc.

I usually have to wait a few hours and in one case a few days before what ever the problem is goes away. Sorry to say dude.

I thought the big red gits were nobz? Not slugga boys?

I was actually pleasantly surprised, but I won't buy this until it drops in price. The setting and everything is quite cool, but if the demo is any indication of what the full game will be like, then I fear it will become pretty repetitive by the end. It feels to much like buttonmashing to me, and there's not much skill involved in the shooting. The AI is pretty much mindless and just attacks you straight on. The game looks cool enough to compensate for this, but what happens when you've seen every execution performed 100 times?

In the demo, I thought the orks were as follows:

Bomb Squigs (You'll know one when it tries to eat your knee cap)
Gretchin (Tiny buggers)
Choppa boyz (Dudes with cleavers)
Shoota Boyz (Yellow dudes with bigger machine guns)
Nobz (Biggest ones with the red armour)

On the site though, it doesn't mention the choppa boyz and calls the nobz 'Slugga boyz'

I thought slugga boys were just normal boyz but with a slugga instead of a choppa. If the big, red armoured orks are slugga boys, how friggin huge will the nobz, warbosses and big mechs be respectively?

To get the PC demo, sign up for the Honour Guard on the Spacemarine.com site, and look in the News section for the announcement. There's a link to get a Steam code.
Paste that code into Steam, you're an hour or so from the game.

downloaded the demo on the comp. IT IS AMAZING, and I do believe they got the details down pretty solid!

I think it could be tightened up in a few ways:

1. The marine dialogue/text sort of misses the mark as far as beng faithful to the setting. It could be a little more "Grand/heroic" and less "Lets get the job done".

A little more "For the Emperor" or "The Emperor sustains us"etc. the feel is just a tad off imho.

2. The lighting effects on weapons is a little OTT (and doesn't seem to be needed on some weapons like the combat knife/chainsword, but makes more sense on the power weapons), as is the blood splattering which is distracting/obscuring at times. I think dialing it back to 8-9 instead of the current 11 would suffice.

3. The Orks could use a little more variety as far as skins (clothing, gear, coloration, etc.). It is very "clone-like" at times.

4. Why is it that when you cut or shoot a dude you have obviously absent wounds yet blood flying everywhere. This is very apparent at times such as when you slow motion cut an ork across the chest yet you leave no visable wound despite arcs of blood flying everywhere. Sort of surprising since they went into so much detail to display wounds on the corpses once they hit the ground...

Pros:

1.The maps and setting very atmospheric and interesting. I love the crates and containers looking just like the ones GW sells, and the ork graffitti is comical.

2. I loved the machine that held the power axe relic, and the servo skull sequence was cool.

Looking forward to the full game.

So what you are saying is ork tactics are spot on in the game...

Actually the shoota orks jumped in and out of cover more so then I expected, and the Gretchin wave attacks seemed rather fitting...

@CT Gamer: the stuff you've pointed out are simply because the primary development platform is the console market.

Had it been the PC, we'd have realistic wounds and multiple character models for the orkies.

I asked this a couple of posts ago and It seems no one read it:

What's with the naming on the ork types?

LOL, I know. I just prefer when you actively have to work the map to your advantage because of outflanking, crossfire etc. They could at least try to trap you from several directions.

Time to try out easy mode!! I want to know what it feels like to be more like a God in this game. Minus walking up to Gretchin and punching them in the face over and over and over and over....

The buggers seem to think for themselves. In the last part of the 1st demo I couldn't believe my eyes when the attack seemed to adapt to my positioning. Really enjoying it

Really enjoyed it, played it on both hard and easy. Hard is a real challenge but not very fluffy at all. Easy you really are a warrior angel.

I also enjoy that if you get a head shot there head actually explodes.

Also thought the sounds from fireing the bolter were good, i enjoyed the fact they changed the sound if you were low on ammo.

Over all really good.

Now just to decide PC or Xbox

Its fething brilliant!

The nay sayers are just being picky surely? They cant make it 100% amazing in every single way, or make it 100% fluffy considering GW don't manage to do that either! Its a great balance as far as I can see.

The bolter's sound amazing, I love the change in tone as the mag runs low and the crumpy sounds they make when they fire. The exploding heads and the throb of the firearm, I cant wait to try the heavy bolter!

The Power-axe was totally sweet as well, Ive completed the demo 4 of 5 times on hard now, and its just brilliant, If you aint found the axe, its in the pod near the elevator on the last fight. Power that sucker up and carve through everything that comes at you.

Bring on the full game!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Despite the attitude around this forum sometimes it IS possible to give some critical points about something without being a "hater/naysayer".

Otherwise we are simply standing around beiing fanbois and high-fiving each other which is pretty pointless discussion...
