Its amazing. I've played it about 7 times on PC, on hard for most, but only twice through on 360 on hard. Great fun.

The shoota boys will actually take cover and shoot at you from behind it with reckless abandon, they never charge you. Slugga boys are pretty much in the rush you mindlessly ai level, but they will flank you occasionally.

Thankfully Deus Ex HR is good enough to tear me away from the demo till the full game comes out

I'm loving it so far. I've probably gone through the thing 5 times, and only just noticed the Power Axe when someone pointed it out to me. I find it nice that while it's handy to stay in cover, the only way to really heal is to wade into the melee and start killing orks. Great fun. Can't wait for the full version to come out...thankfully the free copy of Darksiders that I got with the pre-order is helping me get through the last two weeks.

I found the demo fun but I could see it get repetitive. Hopefully it'll be more interesting when fighting against Chaos.

However what I found annoying/amusing is that you can't vault over small objects. I know they don't want a cover system because "that's not what being a Space Marine is all about" but I don't think it would be too beneath him to just vault over a small box lying on the ground than having to go around it. Hell, just punt it out of the way or chop it in half.

I've only played the demo once through but does anyone else find that doing long melee combos in the middle of a horde to be suicidal? I find that if I'm doing a long combo and then try to do an execution at the end to get health, I end up dying when it goes all slow motion-like and go through that extended kill scene. I can understand losing health when I'm just regularly chopping Orks but even during the long execution scene? Seems more effective to just stun, execute, stun, execute, etc.

All in all, a fun game but not sure if I'm willing to pay full price. I'll have to see how it does in reviews. If they were offering co-op mode right away, I'd pick it up instantly but until then, I'll wait. Heck, I'll probably be busy playing Gears of War 3 with my friends.

heh, you go ahead and try to stun, execute, stun, execute, and see how long you live surrounded by orks.

Orks fight like orks, fighting against chaos from the vids looks like it will be much different, as they don't seem to mind throwing giant balls of plasma death at you while their demon minions warp into your face.

You can vault over things, with a jumppack.

he's not wrong, some of the cover you can blow right through some of it is a barrier, which is annoying

stun-> execute -> stun doesn't work very well as you take more damage when executing than you heal if surrounded.
you really need to be going attack attack stun or attack stun to clear out some of them then you can pull off bigger combos without getting wrecked.

remember stunned = out of the fight for a while, as good as dead, even though they are execute bait you dont have to do it

I downloaded it and was not disappointed. Graphics are top notch, the bolter actually sounds what a gun shooting rocket proppelled soda cans should sound like, and the executions.....lets just say i wish you guys could have heard my reaction when Titus rammed his chainsword into a Nob's mouth and kept the motor going....

That's not really vaulting over, more like flying over. Of course obstacles are not a problem when you have a jump pack but I'm talking more about when you DON'T have a jump pack.

I'll probably have to play around with it some more. It seemed to work well but I think I was playing on normal then. I'll have to try playing on the hard difficulty setting.

I don't understand how people could be excited by this. I played through it and thought the game play was horrible. They gave us 2 random missions with no background on why we're doing what we're doing, which makes feel like this is just another Serious Sam while playing it. The fighting system was very disappointing to me as well, I felt like I was playing Afro Samurai all over again (SPAM X!). They could have added in extra combos besides spam x followed by a y. Execute really only served a purpose after you landed with the jump pack, knocking things down.

Graphics are great, but that's the only redeeming quality. IDK, maybe I'm just too into RPGs and story-driven games to be blown away by a Serious Sam knock-off like I was when I was 15. For an extra 500 megs, they could have done some serious cinematic additions to make it feel like there's a point to you being there.

I don't know if the full version addresses these issues, but the demo was seriously lacking these key features to keep me interested. I know I won't be buying the full version when it comes out unless I know it addressed these issues...

I mean, yea, there is a lot more dialogue and story-drive in the full game, this is just a demo. A small sampling.

Combos don't really need to be that intense since you have the whole shooting mechanic in there as well.

Notice how the non-Jump Pack demo level was specifically titled Part II--'The Inquisitor'. If you picked up the 'Recording Log' of the slain Guardsman, it is also labeled "3/5".

That is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally a big hint that it is not the entirety of the level.

Methinks you don't understand what a demo is. I've been through many an OXM disc, and I've never played a demo that explained the entire game, much less why I was wherever I was.

Anyways, as someone else mentioned it would be pointless to talk about how good it is, let's get down to what's bad.

- For being a space marine, I sure didn't feel like one while walking around. The environment needs to be way more destructible.
- The executions could very well get repetitive. Hopefully there's a way to make it not go in slow motion after doing it so many times.
- After playing the first mission, the jump pack level was a walk in the park. Jump, stomp, execute, repeat. This was on normal mode mind you, but I was untouchable.
- This is fluff nitpicking, but I thought bolter rounds had a bigger explosion, and took a bit longer to explode. I could be wrong on this.
- Is there no way to block? Fighting a nob seemed kind of silly to me because you're both just spamming swings and nobody reacts to getting hit.
- I can't find anything about if the game will support mods. Anyone heard anything about it?

I was disappointed honestly. The game is seriously 'meh' its a button mashing hack and slash game, but without the option to really vary up your button mashing. The environments are almost entirely static, the controls are clunky, the weapons feel pretty much identical (the only one I found different was the grenade launcher, the other 3 bolter types might as well have been the same gun with a fire mode setting), and the chainsword/poweraxe were pretty much the same aside from relative power levels and kill animations (kinda). And wtf is it with the Orks voices? Thought they were marines until I realized that they were saying pro-Ork/anti-Marine junk.

I tihnk the best way to sum it up is Dynasty Warriors meets Gears of War.

Well, for what it's worth, that's kind of what they are. Bolt pistol is, well, a bolt pistol. Bolter is an automatic form of it, and the Stalker variant has a scope. I found the guns to be so similar that I usually just used the bolt pistol because I got to hold it while I held the chainsword (for visual appeal. Made me feel like a SM Sgt on the tabletop). I can see the B Pistol and Boltgun being in the game, but I'd much rather have a supercharged lasgun for a sniper rifle (one variant of the IG sniper rifle). I mean so far you're on an IG world, so it would make sense to find IG weapons. I also found the grenade launcher to just suck. I would much rather have had an IG grenade launcher with Krak and Frag rounds to use.

I may sound like a favor IG weapons over SM, but not so. I just think that the weapons don't really feel powerful enough to make me feel like they are space marine equipment. Instead of what looks to be a bullet, I'd rather have a glowing red beam, and instead of a weird blue sphere shooting grenade launcher, I'd rather see large weak explosions and small devastating explosions. I suppose that it could be argued that the grenade launcher you use fires only kraks, but why would you realistically be holding on to that many krak shots while facing ork hordes?

I'm sure the story while make more sense of things, but yeah that's my stance on the current state of weapons.

My only real commentary on other weapons is that the entire time I was playing I wished I had a heavy bolter...

My one comment on weapons is that (through the demo) the bolt pistol is kinda useless. Since you can switch to your chainsword in an instant, regardless of what weapon you're actually holding, you might as well use the rapid-firing bolter over the bolt pistol. And except for one time on hard, I never actually ran out of ammo for the bolter. That said, that was for just the one demo mission, and there were definitely times I was getting low, and managed to get to an ammo box.

And that grenade launcher was amazing, I don't know what you're talking about. On hard you need it to break apart some of the waves of slugga boyz, especially during the finale while waiting for the lift. A few well-placed grenades can wipe out an entire charging mob of boyz.

You realize demos can come from any part of the game, usually it's not the beginning. Left 4 Dead 2 demo was the last act of the game in fact! Arkham Asylum was quite a bit into the game too (I think, it's been a LONG time since I played that one). Demos take place all over. You can't expect plot from that Game play was great. I know it's a "to each their own" moment, but still....my only complaint was...aw, hell. I had no complaints. Other than having to spend money on release day!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

First.. how is a Longlas in any way, better then a stalker patern bolter? (except maybe for effective range) Hell, they would be tiny in an SM's hands and would look stupid.

As for the grenade launcher, IMO the best weapon in the demo. Just put down traps/stick a nob full, kaboom.

It gets a resounding 'meh' from me. The guns felt a bit hollow, HTH combat gets stale pretty quickly (God of War this ain't...), and as someone said above me, the environments are static. I don't feel like I can interact with anything - hell I even found an invisible wall whilst jumping around in the second level.

I think I'll avoid this one and maybe borrow it from a friend. I can't see myself playing it more than once and I don't like multiplayer, so why fork over $100 for it?

My only complaint is how weak they made the lasguns in this game. The first time I heard an odd sound (I recognized the sounds of the demo easily.) then I noticed some red lines hitting an ork while he was still charging me, but eventually died after 5 seconds of the volley. Then I turn and noticed the Guardsmen, and thought "Really THQ, you would make guardsmen that weak.", but other than that the guardsmen looked cool.

In most games, things like the Guardsmen are essentially "set pieces" that fire randomly and can't really kill anything for game purposes.

What would you want to do with the environment anyway? I mean besides crush it.

I think you just need to turn up the bass and your volume for the guns
