Lookin back on the demo I think I have one gripe, even though its probly quite a minor one.
The Imperial Eagle on the power armour is completely flat, I was expecting it to "pop" out a bit more as is the case with the minis. Like I said though, its a minor thing.

Why do people keep saying the game is anything like serious sam? If anything it's a mix of gears of war and dynasty warriors.

Hey I made a video of the Inquisitor level of the demo.
It isn't just a gameplay video like others do. Instead the focus is on the story so I have to edit it a lot, put in sound effects, record the in game voices separately. I also make sure it's HD and I increased the colors so it looks more like the models we paint instead of grey everywhere.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp7ij8qIpI0&feature=channel_video_tit
Would like your opinion on it. I might buy the game and record some more videos if people do like it so please let me know.

Possibly because like in Serious Sam you carve through hundreds of enemies without any real sense of accomplishment or any real connection to what you are doing?
It just felt really... limp? At least Serious Sam was vaguely entertaining.

I had a lot of fun playing this demo which I was definitely not expecting. After seeing a gameplay video recorded at one of the many games conventions this year I had decided that the graphics were dull and textureless and the gameplay repetitive and poor without much variety in the combat moves(which is absolutely essential in a hack 'n' slash game if playing it is to be at all satisfying and visually engaging). But after playing the demo, in which the graphics were incredible and the gameplay solid and, of course, fun, despite it's repetitive nature! I really felt the power behind each fluid sweep of the space marine's chainsword and the force of the impact as the orks reeled from each blow. The shooting was good when it was required because it plays a rather minor role, the real fun is in the close combat. The jump pack level was an enjoyable contrast to the first mission as it allowed much greater freedom of movement around the area, and gave the player a sense of power and superiority as you soared above the hapless enemies before diving into them with deadly results.
If they implement a wide variety of gameplay mechanics that are as fun as the two already shown then I would seriously consider buying this game, and I rarely buy games anymore.

I still don't get the connection to Serious Sam...
I mean it's similar to Darksiders but not Serious Sam...
Also i don't think limp is accurate... there was something missing... not sure what though...

If you're going to compare it to serious sam you might as well use KISS Psycho circus too. It was one of those games that threw a lot of enemies at you.
And on that such a comparison is silly. Serious sam was a fps that focused heavily on ranged combat. You had a knife for CC, but ammo was so plentiful you NEVER had to use it.
Actually, I think it's more like KSS than SS because KSS had more emphasis on melee combat.
You could say the game REMINDS you of serious sam because it throws a lot of enemies your way, but the similarities sort of end there. SS is also a fps, which SM is not.
Dynasty warriors is third person, and throws a lot of enemies your way, and is heavily focused on close combat. That right there is enough to say that if anything, the game is like Dynasty Warriors much more than it is like SS.
But i guess there's the definite possibility that some people don't play enough games to know the different games out there and the similarities between them.

Or there is the possibility that you are taking things out of context and making your own inferences and interpretations over what is being said. Dynasty Warriors is CC oriented, has you wading hip deep in enemy blood etc... but it doesn't feel (to me) anything like SM. It has a less "on rails" mission and map design (at least to what we have seen in the demo) etc.
On the other hand Serious Sam had you slaughtering your way through hundreds of minion class enemies with the odd boss and megaboss thrown in (kind of like we have seen in SM), it was definitely a "there is your goal - now go kill your way towards it" game, just like SM. The overall feel and play of the game is very SS. I got through most of the first demo level on my second play through without even having to use my sword more than a handful of times - just sat there with the bolter and launcher, hosing down orks while either advancing or retreating (depending on how many orks there were).
The camera angle and so on are more or less irrelevant as to how the game plays and feels.
On the mention of Psycho circus - I do see where you are coming from but it has been a long while since I played that and I can't remember how it played that well ( SS left more of an impression which should tell you something ).

I believe the closest thing this plays to, with a similar style of over the top gore and executions is God of War, and I didn't like that either. It's too enclosed and staggered to be compared to Dynasty Warriors. I love Dynasty Warriors, DW7 being a massive and best improvement on the series since DW3 came out. Space Marine plays hardly like Dynasty Warriors other than the fact you face large groups of troops, (No idea if you'll face more Orks in Space marine later, but the numbers of Orks are small compared to some of the troops numbers you'll face in DW as well, I've hit a musuo in DW7 and dropped sixty-eighty guys) but how the games deal with that situation gameplay wise is miles apart. DW is much more fluid in its attacks.

By the same logic Space Marine is just like every contra game ever made.
So let's again look at the similarities.
SS/ SM
Kill lots of enemies
Bosses much larger than you
DW/ SM
Third Person
Melee Focused
Kill lots of enemies
You say that SS had clearly defined goals. I did not get the same feeling at all. You follow a linear path, and you just kill stuff. There's something about some guy named mental that's doing something or whatever, but you only hear about him in various bits of text. I could never sit around long enough to finish the game, and I believe I got about 4/5 of the way through it, and I never saw this mental person. I just went through area after area killing stuff. To me, that's not a very clear goal. It's more like kill things, then go kill some more things. You're supposed to be doing something but don't worry about that part, here's a new gun, kill more stuff.
Also, because you chose to not use the chainsword, that does not make the game any less melee focused at all. It's like saying I play Quakelive and only use the gauntlet, so that makes it a CC game.
And yes, the camera does play a large part in how a game feels. Serious sam was all about jumping around trying not to get hit by things while using crazy weapons to cut down swathes of enemies who usually die after a couple shots from an appropriate weapon. Space Marine is all about wading into combat and shifting from one direction to the next with your melee weapon, making sure to catch as many things in your sweeping arks as you can, and sometimes rushing in for a finisher to restore health after getting a good beating.
This insistence that SM is like SS over anything else is ludicrous.

Just want to point out that, having played both Serious Sam games (First/Second Encounter), you never really meet Mental anyway, just the vast hordes of minions. And I agree with you - the game doesn't have clearly defined goals at all. The game has a brief intro where it explains who you are and why you're in Egypt, but that's about it. Even the introduction to each level doesn't give a whole lot of info, just a bit of background on the location you're entering. For the most part, it's a game of "Get from Point A to Point B while slaughtering enemies".
The only real similarity between the two games is that Serious Sam and Space Marine both have you fighting hordes of enemies - and Space Marine's got nothing on what Sam had to face near the end of the First/Second Encounter. Going only on the combat, Sam was 100% shooter. Sure, there's a knife, but when you're that close to an enemy, he doesn't need to aim to hit you with hundreds of bullets/lasers/claw wounds and what-have-you. Space Marine, on the other hand, has roughly equal focus on close combat and shooting (and maybe even a little tilted towards the close combat, with all the Sluggas you face). When enemies close in, you don't circle-strafe away and keep firing, you pull your chainsword and start bashing Orks.
There really isn't much similarity between Sam and Space Marine.

Again, I think you are missing the point - I'm not saying that SM feels like SS more than any other game - I am pointing out how it feels like SS to some degree and the reasons why. You seem to be thinking I am trying to make some in depth critique of the game(s) and some researched, referenced and peer reviewed paper about why SM is an SS clone when in fact I am pointing out some elements of the game that give it the same kind of feel (to me, and apparently to others given a number of people have said the same) to SS. I am not denying in any way shape or form that SM could feel like any number of games for any number of different reasons. The insistence that I am is ludicrous.

I played the demo and enjoyed it! I'm pretty excited about this game; it is the first game in a LONG time that I have gone down to Gamestop and reserved.
Anyway, the biggest problems I had with the demo was that I was dying left and right, mainly because I don't have a lot of experience with this style of game (I haven't played any of the other games mentioned in this thread!). Since the demo kind of dumps you into the middle, it was a bit of a sink or swim experience for me. I imagine that there will be a ramp-up in the earlier missions that will help with this, though.

Felt like being a space marine. I used the bolter, then swapped to BP when the orks got close - good tactic is to fire while charging to put yonder orksies off balance, and then it's just hack n' slash goodness.
Not a fan of the ork voicing though. Just sounded like a couple of drunken football supporters to me. Other than that, I'm pleasantly suprised.

Yeah it's the same voice talent that was used in the Kill Team game (mini-game?) for the orks. They don't sound guttural enough for my tastes...a couple of times i mistook the orks voices for my teammates, "why do my teammates keep saying 'space marines!'?" LOL

Now that I think about it, I wish they would have given the game an rpg element. Or rather, I wish they would have allowed you to specialize in ranged or melee and give you access to different abilities.
