Well, Commorragh not a best plase to visit. But slaves do not have the choice. Someone too unlucky to survive, others too cowardly to die - everyone will meet their doom, fighting most terryfying beasts from across the galaxy. And now they goaded to the Arena, through streets, ship graveyards and portals of Dark City.

Nice! The DE are so clean and shiny next to the dirty slaves. Very nicely done. I love it. <3

Heh, great as always. The enviroment is a bit at odds with the fluff though; it looks more like an Imperial ship than Comorragh. ...A bit of an explanation of this may be warranted. ^^'

That's fabulous work. How'd you get the finish on your DE? Love the conversion work on the slaves, too.

This is of course, an once-proud marine ship. But this was long ago, and now it remodified to a slave-pens.

The painting, conversions, and the subject matter are original and superb. Unfortunately, the layout of the diorama does not do justice to the models. The two dimensional ship seems cheap and hastily put together.

I would revise the scene by making the surrounding area more 3 dimensional. Maybe install some cogitator banks or terminals. Or, even better, put a slain Space Marine hanging from one of the walls by chains.

These additions could bring the scene to life.

Incredible, absolutely incredible. I would love to have a room full of your dioramas. I agree with markoseugene that it could use some scenery in the fore ground to give it less of a shoe box feel. The double headed eagle is Tattoo worthy and the portals are masterful. The slave pens are very inspired. In all the painting/weathering is nothing short of pure artwork. Your ability to represent emotion brings the Grimdark to life far better than GW fluff. If GW published a compilation of your works I would buy it just for inspirations sake.

As a diorama, you have the advantage of fixed lighting sources, and the resulting lighting effects are phenomenal. Personally, I think the figures themselves have an anime style that is not to my personal taste, but still very well done. I like the shaded figures behind the 'force field' effects, gives the diorama some external connectivity. The only real issue I see with it is in the two figures at the head of the slave column. Unlike the rest of the models, they don't seem like they have been captured in mid-action, but rather mid-pose, as if they thought they were having their picture taken. Other than that, it looks really good.

This is beautiful, tasteful, and truly captures the descriptions (imho) of a bunch of poor chumps about to get fed to the 40k version of a Rancor.

Okay, here's a little bit more in-depth criticism.

First, as others have said the paint job and conversion quality is stunning. In particular the contrast of the cleanly painted DE armor versus the dirty slaves really makes this scene work. The freehanding on the back wall is excellent, but I'm especially drawn to the chambers in the back wall that appear to be separated by a force field. Very nicely done.

I can really only think of one thing that could improve this: the scenery could tie into the story better. People in this thread have expressed confusion about the scene, so there is room to make it more clear. There are lots of ways you could do that since the space is so large.

You could have DE runes as some kind of graffiti on the back wall, showing the contempt they have for the Imperial cult. How do DE make graffiti? It might be a "magic" looking effect, it might just be an analogue to crude spray paint for the visceral effect.

You could also have some kind of DE view screen added to the scene that clearly stands out from the background as an added, alien tech that shows some hint of the upcoming gladiator conflict the slaves will be involved in. I imagine their captors wouldn't want to be cut off from the action because of their duties rounding up "the animals". At the moment the only DE additions to the chamber I see are those skull trophies. I think you could push that further.

You could do more with the webway portals on either side. Right now they're just hidden behind a (pretty clever-looking) door. What if there was some hint that DE tech had been added to the room to enable those portals? And of course, there's always the option of showing people in the moment of passing into or out of the portals.

As it stands, you have an excellently painted and converted diorama that should [stroke]impress[/stroke] gobsmack any 40K fan. But I wonder if anyone who wasn't familiar with the DE backstory could fully appreciate the scene. A few more details to really illustrate the horrors that await these prisoners could make the story clearer.
