So, I have a tourney on Friday, and my Vindicare assassin is in need of some TLC.

Anyway, simply put, he needs to be stripped and repainted, and fast.

So, he's metal, so throwing him into something horribly corrosive won't offend him too much. So I'm looking for something that will strip him really, really quickly, and allow me to paint him within the following 24 hours once he is stripped.

Any advice, Dakka.

And I promise I'll post pics of my new paintjobs soon, I promise.

For fastest results, I would go with nail polish remover.

NO! Not nail polish remover. Not quick enough. If he's metal, go straight for the big guns, and grab yourself some Lacquer Thinner. Strips the easy stuff fast as hell, the tougher stuff in an hour or so, and the really, REALLY hard stuff in 24hrs.

Lacquer thinner and a toothbrush. I'm pretty sure it's available in Canada.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

If you need to strip the model quick you can use an actual automotive paint striper which will work pretty much instantly. Alternativly boiling the model for 5 or 10 minutes should workto.

I'd go with 100% acetone. Nail polish remover is usually only 20% at best. Leave in the acetone for an hour, scrub like crazy then maybe do the boil method for whatever's left.

Don't bother with simple green or any of the other plastic friendly methods. Pure acetone is how you nuke a metal model.

Just a follow up here... I recently got a free Terminator Captain (metal) that was very poorly primed (has that fuzzy look to him, why he was free). What house hold items can I use to strip the primer off of him in less than 48 hours? I have lacquer thinner and mineral spirits (and several basic cleaners, but no paint thinner).

Assuming you cannot go get anything else, the lacquer thinner is the best you have.

Anyone else had experience of this? My current method of choice is Dettol, but this sounds easier...

LACQUER THINNER FTW! I suggest you start the soaking now. so you've a mini that's ready to paint by the time you need it.

Never heard of the boiling water method, but whatever.

Sounds easier, except for the scolding hunk of metal you're left with I'm gonna have to give this a run next time I have to strip a metal mini.

I just sipped a whole load of termies with nail varnish remover. It stripped the big bits and did an excelent job removing superglue. There is still allot left to strip that the nail varnish left. Im trying the boiling water and if there is any left ill try white spirits. Will report back!

Ok, what ive found. Boiling water. Not as good as nail polish remover.
White spirit. Promissing, but i only have low odour artist thinners which costs far to much to use for stripping. I tryed a little. I will get some more tomorrow.
Heat gun. Only a craft one, not a diy one. But all i managed to do was burn my fingers.

Got some lacquer thinner from my dad's store. Worked like a charm. Should have worn gloves.

I don't think you can get dettol in the us.

Simple green has the same active ingredient as dettol and should be available in the US. It is perfect for plastic figures as it won't hurt plastic,

NitroMors is what I use for metal (that's the brand, don't know if you can get it over in Canadia), it's just a generic paint-stripper from a hardware shop

I've been stripping my old metal Tallarns super quick with Acetone-free nail polish remover (cheap from Boots in the UK). Dunk it in, scrub with a stiff toothbrush and voila, squeaky clean (GW chaos black and bubonic brown primers). Don't think I spent more than three minutes stripping each one (which is good because there's hundreds of 'em!).

Use on plastic with extreme care, however...

I would have to highly suggest avoiding that particular combination at all costs. Unless, of course, you want some rather expensive plastic sludge.

i'm stripping a bunch of old eldar metal minis, left in 100% acetone for 24 hours, most of it has come off but there's still a lot of paint stuck in small detail areas that I can't get rid of even when scrubbing with a toothbrush, will paint thinner/laquer stuff get rid of that any better?

I used Goo-Gone on my metal Necron Lord and within a minute the paint and primer were sloughing off in large chunks. A little scrubbing with a tooth brush and he was as clean as a whistle. That's my method of choice for stripping metal minis.

I just stripped a plastic model in Super Clean in about an hour by sticking it in a tub with the stuff and then putting that on top of my dryer while I ran a load of laundry through it. Left a bit of primer on the model, but that was fine for me. Got me out of a real bind too.

Sissy, Sissy, Sissy. Come on now, the OP asked for something powerfull.
Here's the big guns!

1) Oven cleaner spray. It's made to take the baked grease off of metal oven surfaces so wear gloves. This stuff will take paint of minis and burn skin off fingers.

2) Brake fluid. Again, use gloves! An hour in brake fluid and you'll be golden.

I'm a Simple Green guy myself, but when I've got a particularly stubborn metal model I need stripped fast, the two above are my go-to solutions.

Right.

I've tried pure acetone before. It works pretty well, but honestly I haven't seen it get down into the cracks to get the stubborn stuff out any better than simple green or super clean will do. Maybe it needs to be left in longer, I always left it in about an hour.
