Subject: Video Tournament Report! 1850, Alamo GW, CA
So I wanted to try out my sweet new camera at a tournament and see if it was possible to film a tournament while playing in one. The result is a bit all over the place, but like our battle reports, I am sure these will improve with time and practice.
The tournament was really fun. 1850 points, book missions and a "challenge system" wherein you got a veteran skill (from the BGB) if you challenged or accepted a challenge from another player. If you won, you got to keep the skill and earn another as games went by.
My list:
Eldrad

Very crazy game! The up and down luck on the last turn was nuts! Very close, and enjoyable.
Game 3
Opponent: Tau
Mission: Pitched Battle, Kill Points
his list from memory
O'Shova and a super squad of doom. I can't remember what all was in it, but at least 6 suits with maxed kit.
Fire Warriors x 6: Devilfish with kit
Fire Warriors x 6: Devilfish with kit
Pathfinders x 8: Rail Rifles x 2, Devilfish with kit
Another very close game. Tau are a rough match for Footdar, so this was definitely a challenging game.
So, in the end, there were 3 people with 3-0 records, and all of them from team Zero Comp! In order to determine a winner, at this store they have a "death pit" to determine a winner. It is not fair or balanced at all, but it is entertaining. So Italiaplaya, WHite925 and I put our HQ's on the table to duke it out. Italiaplaya had Fatewaver so it was kind of stupid, but oh well. White925 played it smart, but I went for the glory despite the terrible odds!
In the end, Team Zero Comp went 1,2,3 and I won best painted with the mighty Footdar! After, we all went to talk nerd, eat and drink some brews as is customary.
Thanks for watching, I hope it was enjoyable. Any suggestions or comments are welcome! I think these will get much more streamlined and easier to watch with practice.
Wow...is your Grey Knight opponent's list correct? From my calculations, it's almost 2400 pts!
Very entertaining battle reports, especially the 3-way deathmatch. It's good that everyone is enjoying themselves and having such a good time. Makes me want to go to one of those tournaments in the future (I've been to 1 tournament at the Alamo).
I like how you also show the other armies in your batreps. It's always cool to know what other armies show up at these tourneys. Keep it up.

Yeah I get 2,415. Some of those had to be smaller units than 10 man, or they had to be Strike Squads......

Ok cool, I am glad you guys liked them. I wanted to make sure it was worth the time to make them. As I figure out more video editing stuff, I will add music and graphics and what not.
I got the grey knight list wrong, it was 2 full units ut he combat squaded them so I wrote 4. My mistake.
Jim, you should come. They are very fun.
And yeah, the death pit is totally broken but fun. Last time an ig command squad won by hidi.g and waiting for everyone else to kill each other! It was funny.
Well played Reecius. I enjoyed watching your btrp.
Tank Hunter Walkers is intimidating, but not as scary as infiltrating Terminators. Good to see foot-dar tied for 1st place.
Space chicken is so OP in death pit! I wonder what would have happened if someone played Crowe and used Heroic Strike when they are the last two models standing.

Keep up the good work.
I wouldnt have gotten into combat with him haha. Id probably just fly around shooting him.

Like a true space chicken.
j/k
What I meant to say, who would win if both models end up killing each other?
Actually both models are removed as casualties at the same time. Once Crowe loses his last wound, he takes a psychic test, makes an attack, and if he hits both models are removed as casualties. This interrupts the normal sequence of events (normally you are removed as a casualty as soon as you lose your last wound, but in this case, you lose your last wound and trigger Heroic Sacrifice), and would function much the same way as two models making their attacks at the same initiative step and killing each other. Actually, that's exactly what happens, since at Fateweaver's initiative step, Fatweaver kills Crowe, which triggers Crowe's ability at the same initiative and it is resolved immediately.

How is the Alamo store? I'm in Brentwood and while I like the one in Antioch I am looking for an older crowd to play with. I find most of the independent stores between here and there along The 4 have no Fantasy player base.
Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

The Death Pit seems slowed, terribly imbalanced however a hell of alot of fun. Our store used to do this at the end of every tournament for a "random" prize. Gave the swarmlords out there a fighting chance
May have to reinstitute it.

@Aldarion
Well, then Crowe would be good for the death pit as he could never lose!
@Hargus
It is an awesome store. Actually, if you guys could please "like" his store on Facebook, that would be killer. http://www.facebook.com/GWAlamo
He is super cool and liking his store makes him look good to GW. He goes out of his way to help people become better players and painters.
There are a lot of Fantasy gamers there although the average age of the gamers is younger. For the most part, even the young guys are good players, though.
@Jdjamesdean
The deathpit is silly, broken and not the best way to resolve tie breakers, but oh well. Luckily Frankie, WIll and I are really chill about prizes as we could have made a fuss about it as we both had nearly no chance of winning.
Game 2 goes to show how dependent on psy powers purifier builds tend to be I think. Warding/hoods really mess up cleansing flames
Think a drago list would be less reliant on psy powers? Maybe just keep playing keep away shooting till you can dehood/warding them? I've still yet to get good counters for that. Also probably why I feel somewhat weak vs tyranids with shadow in the warp at times
+ Thought of the day + Not even in death does duty end.

I have not played a draigowing with my footdar yet, but typically, small, elite foot armies like that just get crushed by footdar as I have weight of fire to chew through them with small arms fire. Guide, doom, weight of fire and harlies means that I should defeat them qhite soundly, although you never really know until you play. My footdar usually just run through meq's, and deathwing in particular. I wohld think draigowing, particularky with no apothecary, would be no different.
You will be surprised at how resilient a proper Draigowing is. IMO they are better than deathwing because they've got resiliency and can shoot well. But at least you've got Runes of Warding, which is always a pain. But good luck trying to doom them on LD6 and with a psychic hood around.
Overall, I enjoyed the videos, and I look forward to seeing more in the future. The only problem I had with them is something that occurs all the time in videos shot at games stores (especially during tournaments). In the second video, I could barely hear your commentary because someone in the background had to make his point BY SHOUTING AS LOUDLY AS HE COULD BECAUSE THAT MAKES HIS POINT COME ACROSS MORE CLEARLY. At one point during the video, I actually said out loud, "please SHUT THE HELL UP! Reecius is trying to speak!" Useless, but that's the frustration level you run into.
Other than that, you did great. Keep up the great work!

That would probably depend on the army I'm going up against. I'd agree that usually the dread stays back, but if the opponent has offensive psychic powers, I may have no choice but to \march the dread along with the army. Being venerable, he has a decent chance of surviving most firepower that heads his way and with paladins, most of the S8/9 shots may be directed at them instead.
Eldar definitely can get psychic powers off, though with the double protection of dreads and hood, it's almost as tough to do so as GK's trying to get off psychic powers over Runes of Warding. But Guide will definitely be much easier to get off and maybe even more useful.
I think footdar will definitely give Draigowing a good challenge. But whereas others have problems with footdar shooting, Draigowing is more likely able to survive it and still function at full capacity (unless you take 30 fire dragons!).
One of these days, maybe we should get a test game going. I'm just starting to experiment with Draigowing as a possible Ard Boyz build I may bring. The other, of course, is my Crowe-purifier build. You can check out your potential competition in Ard Boyz Semi-finals Thread.

For the Ard Boyz, I'm not really too concerned if people know what I bring. I think they're both (Draigowing or Crowe-purifiers) good enough to handle almost anything thrown their way.
But don't be surprised if I show up with tyranids.
So you're bringing Deathwing, and you're hoping someone doesn't bring land raider-spam?
BTW, there is 1 deathwing player - lance002 (I think that's his dakka handle) - that I know of that will be going to Legends as well. He also attended the 1500 tournament that both you and I went to, and I managed to barely beat him with my nids.
