Tyranids apparently are one of the worst armies in 40k at the moment. So here's a small "fix" to make them bit more equal with others and not making them too powerful.
Use synapse rules from 4th edition! That's pretty much all they need.
If anyone is trying this out, let me know how it works and does it affect the balance too much.

So Eternal Warrior fixes overpriced Carnifexes with no ability to get a 2+ save, overpriced troops, useless Pyrovores, broken Lictor rules, etc?

atleast none of those can't be killed with one shot anymore if there's a synapse creature close by. And atleast lictor has improved from the last version.. not by much tho.

Yeah that doesn't fix anything, i think the last codex was fine as is, figure out a way to add the mawloc/trygon into that book and your onto a winner. Last codex was where it was at for nids. Specially carnifexes, they were actually decent and not stupidly overpriced.

Well, warriors would become plain silly, imagine if they couldn't be instant killed? shrikes would also probably become useful too, because with that many wounds that have to be taken off one at a time, they would be hard as hell to stop. But yeah, this doesn't really solve the major complaints against tyranids.

Yeah but the problem with the 4th Ed Codex was while synapse gave you immunity to Instant Death, it also was far worse if you were out of synapse range. Anything that was out of synapse range became practically useless.

Synapse got incredibly watered-down.
"Oh no, my Carnifex is out of Synapse and is charging!"
"Oh no, my Termigaunts are hunkering down and shooting"
I agree that the bigger bugs could use some immunity to instant death/being removed from play.
I don't see Nids as being uncompetitive though.
They're definitely not top-tier, but in a more casual environment they can definitely hold their own and put out some nasty lists. They just have to play a horde list now instead of Nidzilla.

The problem with tyrannids is no anti-tank outside of running up to something and flailing at it. Sure you have guard but that is a fail against AV14 and pretty useless against AV 13. Zoes don't count because they are overpriced, counterable through anti-psyker stuff and dependent on BS 3.
Fexes with cost levels of the last codex with the limitation of 3+ armor or fexes with the new base cost with 2+ armor might be worth it. Of course being the cynic, I suspect this was all GWs ham-fisted way of getting everyone to abandon fex based lists that abounded with the last codex. (Let's see, I think we will make every new creature 6 wounds and then we will make fexes cost 50% more. I hope that is enough... Oh wait! Let's take away the option for 2+ AC also.)

Zoanthropes have BS 4, going by my 'dex.
I am currently finding great success in a hybrid list. The lynchpin, and call me crazy, is my OVERPRICED Hive Tyrant. No one except Draigo has been able to go toe to toe with him. Only Crowe and Draigo managed to kill him, and that was with Daemonbane and Heroic Sacrifice.
Here he is. I normally field 1-02 guard to soak up wounds.
Tyrant
HVC
LW/BS
Adrenals
Acid Blood
Toxic Miasma
Implant Attack
Armoured shell
Hive Commander
Indescribable Horror
Rergeneration
Old Adversary, which negates my need for ST
Total 385
He dominates everywhere. He can blow up the toughest vehcles, take on the strongest and fastest enemies, and still emerge on top, and regenerate wounds.

That Tyrant is much more powerful tahn the Swarmlord. He strikes first, has multiple ways to ID, a 2+ save, Regeneration, Automatic FC, instead of the Swarmlord having to use his rule. He is much better at rtange, and packs a biggeer punch in CC, especially witOA. That Indesrcibable Horror is just an expensicve last resort for charging TH/SS termies. Hive Commander, when used with my Lictor, guarentees all my reserves are in by turn 3.

Or ditch some of the more unnecessary upgrades like implant attack (you can already ID them with Boneswords), acid blood (at best, you're going to get only 2 wounds on average vs GEQ) or Indescribable Horror (rather ineffective and definitely not worth its cost). That alone will save you 55pts (almost enough for another Tyrant Guard or a Hive Guard). Automatically Appended Next Post: Deadshot wrote:That Tyrant is much more powerful tahn the Swarmlord. Hive Commander, when used with my Lictor, guarentees all my reserves are in by turn 3. Yeah, but he's also 100pts more expensive than the Swarmlord for marginally more effective upgrades... And I thought 225pts for my Wolf Lord was prohibitively expensive.

AV 14? Use T-fexes to put an eggtimer on it/suppress it until a Trygon can tip it. If there's no AV14, the T-fex is a frightening beast against hordes.
Warriors? Spod into cover, or flank with a Prime and a Hive Commander.
Main thing I'd like to see for my bugs is something with EW. Especially in Apoc, but also against my old nemesis Iyanden, the quantity of ID can be crippling. My preference would be Armoured Shell giving you EW but also Slow & Purposeful.
Carnifexes are probably a bit overpriced, after years of being underpriced. Could probably work with AS, though it'd have to be pricey.
Pyrovores definitely need 3W. And maybe AP3 flamespurts. Perhaps getting +D3 AP against Open Topped vehicles.
Allow Reserve units to 'follow' another. The Lictor > Trygon > Gaunts chain is never reliable outside of Apoc.

Boneswords are not reliable for ID. Everything that has multiple wounds has high Ld, or can get Ld 10 through stuff like Mob Rule. Acid Blood is extremly effective for me.I tell my opponent exactly what is happening if he wounds me. It deters him. Indescribable Horror is overly ezpensive, but if it means that 1 turn where those Termies don't charge, and I can, then it is worth it.
Just btw, I would need to buy another HG or TG.

Lots of stuff to fix in the tyranid codex. Basically they should make a 4.5th edition Codex for them. That would make people happy. Atleast I'd be happy =P

I would too. Hoiweever, some people have mentioned the partial EW from synapse. I don't understand how the Hive mind would make a Warrior ignore a demolisher shell. Or Lascannon. I agree that the Hive Mind would push them on where other species would be blown to bits, but come on, reallly? FNP at the most.
