With some really nice models coming out for the DE and this fandangled "finecast" popping up I thought id go and buy the new Lhamaean, which I think Ill probably just use as a model for Lady Malys.
Ok so anyway a few things I found upon opening this wondrous new models pack. The new resin stuff is nothing like forgeworld, its very flexible.
Second thing I noticed was all the tiny flaws, In no way do you expect the models to be perfect everytime, but with the amount of detail on the finecast stuff and the pricetag youd expect better.
Flaws werent huge mainly small air bubbles, these most commonly seemed to pop up on the spikes on the chicks armour which was annoying as it left the ends of the spikes missing, also a few holes on the cape and the scabbard for her knife had part of the lower section under her hand just missing.
Ended up fixing it with greenstuff but overall was annoying.
Hard to see the flaws on the model, just look for green and youl see the spots Im whinging about. (you will need to zoom in to see the spots)
First Step was I drybrushed the armoured areas with red gore.
I had a finished DE warrior on the table so I could remember how I painted the rest of my army.
Second Step I drybrushed blood red over the red gore. I also painted the cloth areas liche purple and the leather bits chaos black (seen in front view pic)
Third Step was an easy one, basically I just gave the red, black and purple areas a wash with leviathan purple. The purple wash works really well on the red and the purple areas ( I prefer purple wash on red rather than baal red wash).
The wash probably doesnt make a difference on the black areas, its just to help cover mistakes and blend in any bits you didnt cover properly.
I shall post more pics as I paint more.

I want her dress to end up with a sort of sheen to it like silk, similar to how my archons banner turned out. Not something i intentionally painted on the archon but it looks cool so I'm going with it.
Here's the archon.

I found alot of my finecast models had bubbles in them to. On my flamers of tzeentch its really annoying cause its all under the body where working with GS is hard to get smooth :( Maybe it might get fixed with more batches they produce?
I love the purple banner! its great. Cant wait to see how her dress turns out! I <3 purple.

If your Finecast come with fails, ask for a replacement...
Its important to force them to improve the technic...
Oh, and thanks for the explanations, im starting to discovery the power of sequencial washes, and your tip of purple on red helped a lot

If you would like to see more of the Archon you should be able to click the pic and it will take you to the folder in the gallery with more pics of him.
The purple wash with red was a good tip I picked up off someone a while back. When I was first told I was all, "pfft that will never work", yeah I was wrong lol, its awesome.
Ended up using purple wash on red for the whole DE army. Automatically Appended Next Post: Next up I started on the skin. Skin is probably one of things I'm worst at painting, each time I paint it it comes out different lol.
So we will see how things go.
Started off using a mix of about 3 parts white and 1 part elf flesh, these DE lack sunlight exposure.
I built up the skin with a few thin coats of the mix.
The I gave the skin a watered down purple wash.
I then used the same mix with some more white in it to brush over most of the face, left darker spots around eyes and ears etc unpainted to give them a bit of shadow.
Then I felt that was a little tedious so I drybrushed the skin with a mostly white mix that had a small amount of elf flesh in.
Then I decided the dark areas needed to be darker so the skin got a black wash (not watered down), also then drybrushed once more. Also painted on some lipstick on. Who wouldnt go to battle all dolled up lol.
Next pics just show the skin with eyes and lipstick all painted on and the areas I covered when drybrushing all fixed up.

Ended up painting the cloth on her outfit today.
Started by brushing on thin coats of warlock purple on raised edges.
Then I washed the cloth areas again with leviathan purple, after the wash dried I did some finer highlighting.

I like it, a lot. I use leviathan purple on my de, have wanted to see what warlock would look like as a highlight, so much appreciated there. She's looking real purdy, keep up the good work! Automatically Appended Next Post: Stealing the archons slave thing too... Mwahahahaha

Lol go for it, there is a slight disadvantage of taking your pretty slave ladies into combat though, you'l need a larger base, meaning more people can bash your Archon.
I thought it looked too cool to worry about that sort of thing though.

I did something similar with one of mine, tried basing him next to a dead black templar, making him look like the huskblade had drained him dry. Thing is, he doesnt' even fit on a large base (think he's on a 40mm), so reckon I'll rarely use him...
The cure - slave girls with jet packs, flying above the archon, attached to a 25mm base lol

The dress looks beautiful!!! I was so keen to see how it turned out. Is the purple part of the dress the same way you did the flag banner?

Its the same colours for highlighting but i thinkfor the flag I used drybrushing with washes, with the dress I brushed on the highlights and used washes, this made the highlights alot stronger.
So really probably not the actual effect I originally had in mind but I still like how its turned out so far.

Ok since the last pic a few things have been done.
I removed the little poison drip on the knife because it annoyed me, all the trinkets - bottles, jewelry etc- have been done, also I have started painting the hair and rope attached to knife.
The hair is basically enchanted blue with an asurmen blue wash, followed by a drybrush of 50/50 mix containing ice blue and enchanted, then another blue wash, then an ice blue drybrush, then lastly a final drydrybrush with ice blue mixed with some white.
The finishing touches are just completing the base and giving the model a coat of matte varnish spray, gives the model a nice even finish and protects the paintjob.

Very nice, had some issues with mine as well. People in my area call it "finecrap" for a reason.
I'm kinda inching toward a drowish skin tone on mine personally.

I can never decide on a skin tone for an army, for example all the vampires in my vampire counts army have different skin tones.

Personally my experience with Finecast has been a good one. The largest air bubble I ever encountered was quite large, but then Finecast had only just been released, and it was on a flat bit anyway, so it didn't matter. If you do continue to get air bubbles, try some of that Liquid Green Stuff. Unless, of course, that was what you used.
Anyway, that is an awesome model! Never thought blue hair would work-I was wrong.
