Hey all,

Just starting my new Elyssian army and I'm looking for a way to keep myself motivated, so I thought I'd start a blog to document it.

So here are my first 2 completed models.

Oh my god yes more Elysians! They're my favorite 40K model line; if they were less expensive I'd have a complete army. But alas, I only have a flamer/democharge squad and a scratchbuild airmobile Russ variant.

Looking forward to see more of them, your Vulture is awesome!

Great start to an army! I think it's always best to start with some fun things (I started with a baneblade for my Vostroyans ). Really crisp looking! My only CC would be to tone done the hardlining of your chipping: not so wide/regular, and only on the top of a chipped section. It kinda looks like a cartoon right now.

How did you do the cockpit of the vulture? It looks like fogged glass or something. When do we get to see some troops?

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Rawson

Hey

These look really neatly done. The one criticism I would have is that they look very clean for vehicles that have chipping. The tauros could do with some dust and dirt adding with washes and weathering powders

Thanks for the comments guys

Rawson: Just waiting on some resin bases to arrive and then I'll be painting up some troops.

Oh and the frosted glass on the cockpit is actually from the super glue used to glue it in place. Kind of annoying really :(

Excellent looking models there Black Wabbit. Very good paint jobs and I'm deeply envious of your armies hardware. I'm in the proccess of putting together an Elysian STYLED army together myself, a poor mans version, if you will (I've got two Space Marine armies and an Inq28 warband to support....oh yeah and some other cash hungry hobbies too boot too ) will be subscribing to this blog so I can get some hints and tips on painting and playing. You played your army yet?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments and criticisms.

Progress has slowed on the army due to work and study commitments, but rest assured, more stuff is on the way in the coming weeks.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Great-looking army so far, black-rabbit. Really liking your color choices here. My only piece of constructive criticism would be to add some decals to your vehicles. Even a few unit designations and/or stencil-style numbers will add some interest, especially to the large, flat surfaces of your flyers.

A lot of people are afraid of decals, but they really are easy to use if you follow a couple simple techniques:

1. Always start with a gloss finish. A gloss spray from your nearest mega-mart/DIY place will work fine. You do not need to spend premium money on a hobby brand, but that's your choice.

2. After the gloss cures, apply your decals according to the directions. Use a setting/solvent solution such as Micro-Sol or Micro-Set. Any decent hobby store will have this in stock or can order it for you.

3. Wait a few minutes for the decal to soften, then use a damp paper towel to firmly blot the decal. This will force the decal to conform to any irregular surfaces and force any trapped air from underneath. Do not rub, just gently but firmly blot!

4. Wait a few hours for the decal to cure, then you can knock back the shine from the gloss spray with a matte spray and you're good to go.

BTW, a secondary effect of the gloss spray is that it will really add a level of durability to your miniatures that a matte spray alone can't duplicate.

thanks guys

The_armyman: one step ahead of you there. I've ordered a couple of sets of elysian decals from forgeworld, and i'm just waiting for them to arrive.

I've also ordered some mig pigments to add some weathering to the vehicles.

keep the comments coming and more pictures will follow soon.
