So me and my fiend Randomsauce19 have ben having an argument for some time now about necrons being over powerd
So he thinks that with what looks like a new update for necrons is going to make them better because he thinks that there under powerd and in my opinion there already over powerd like were they keep on coming back after you kill them
So what do you guys think overpowerd or not?

They have the most outdated codex in 40k, a back-breaking Phase Out rule, only 4 or so good units and Warriors, which are possibly the worst troops in the game.
.. RandomSauce will win the arguement.

Mikemc: Necrons are almost universally considered to be one of the least competitive armies right now. They may even be the worst (but, some people think Tau are the worst).
They are decent against newer players. But, once you start playing with optimized lists (meaning the most likely to win), and learn how to handle WBB, there's not much hope for the Necron player.
Yep. We'll be back doesnt work against a whole lot of stuff.

The one thing that doesn't translate well from the fluff to the game table is power, technological or otherwise. It simply can't, well, not if you want a game to considered even remotely competetive.
Right below fluff retconning, is the inconsistency between the realities of game play and the literature. To many it's beyond frustrating.
I tend not to think of the game as a reflection of the fluff. That is an entity all by itself.
Playing 40k where the fluff is concerned is akin to dressing up as my favorite superhero and heading out for halloween.
The only thing that really makes Necrons difficult to beat at all nowadays is the Monolith, and with armies like DE out there AV 14 is not as powerful as it seems to be.
The issue with Necrons is that sure, they get back up, but they fall down so easily that it doesnt matter. They are too fragile for an army that is supposed to move forward unstoppably.
Speaking of movement, they are entirely too slow. If you look at most of the really competitive armies out there right now, alot of their success has to do with their sheer speed, especially DE. I beat my friend, who was a necron player, with my Nids the first time I ever played simply because he was so dreadfully slow and I was speedy. He wasnt a bad player, by any means, and he beats me with his other armies (especially his GK) but Necrons are simply too slow.
How are Necrons overpowered? Does Arnold Schwartzneggar just magically appear in any game with Necrons to punch their opponents in the face or something?
Our only troop choice is 18 points. We have one decent elite unit, with far too many of our good units in Fast Attack. Our AWESOME anti-vehicle consists of way too many or one of the most expensive heavy choices in the game. Our army has leadership 10 across the board and still manages to get sweeped off the table all the time.
And Phase Out is one of those rules that I really like for the fluff, and really hate as a rule.
Phase out is pure evil. However, I've always been lucky in shooting with crons. From injuring Avatars with my warriors, to imobilising dreadnoughts in a single shot.

I think that the problem is that when (especially) New Marine Players come across the special rules of more nuanced Xeno armies, that they don't know how to handle them.
Since their list isn't optimal, and if they are playing agaisnt a more experienced Xeno commander who knows how to leverage his armies special rules (because honestly its those special rules that they rely on to have competitive lists) they get crushed. Its easy (and indeed it feels better) to blame your loss on your opponent's army and special rules as opposed to your own generalship.
Even if a new Marine player is playing the mighty space wolves or blood angel, who doesn't know how to leverage the strengths of his codex, and is using units like whirlwinds, swift claw bikers, and tactical space marines. He doesn't realize the strenght of his codex, and the Xeno codex and their fancy rules seem to negate what his units are capable of. It can be frustrating for a wet behind the ears player and they may be tempted to call cheese!
"What do you mean I don't get 2d6 against your Wave Serpent- my multi melta is within 12 inches! Cheese"
"What do you mean your guys get to roll to come back to life, and you can re roll that if you port them through a monolith! CHEESE!"
"What do you mean your Ravager can move 12 inches and shoot 3 heavy weapons?? CHEESE!"
"What do you mean you get a 4+ cover save on your Hammerhead from my las cannon? CHEESE!"
you see what I mean?

Oh noes! There's three bigass monoliths, thirty Warriors and a Lord coming my way! Guys, shoot them! Oh noes! We only killed just a few of the warriors and the other ones got up again! Wait, why are they vanishing?
Necrons are the biggest joke in the 40k game. The only way I could see you losing would be if you took all IG infantry on foot with no special weapons or orders. And they didn't use their lasguns. Or bayonets.
Actually, the only way I can see losing to Necrons is if you don't play. I am a completely average player at best, and I've only lost one game to Necrons ever. Even then, it was because we played a really dumb scenario that went until all of one guy's models were dead, and I only had slugga boyz who couldn't catch his destroyers.
They aren't quite THAT bad. I've won tournaments with them against optimised (usually Marine) lists.
That said it is a HELL of a lot more work and takes a ton more concentration (and no mistakes) compared to taking a Marine army to the field.
Necrons get back up (on a 4+, only within range of other necrons and only against certain weapons.. it's not automatic )
They also pay stoopid points for what amount to inferior tac marines, with no special weapons, heavy weapons, grenades, power weapons, power fists , transport vehicles etc etc.
Most necron units are ok if used correctly, but are vastly overshadowed by cheaper units that dot he same thing in other codexes.
Necrons are (despite having a higher LD than marines) very prone to being broken in combat and sweeping advanced.
The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts
I think it's more a case of WBB envy, without thinking about what the SM have that the Necrons don't
Here's a hint to ruin a Necron's day ..
Use bigger guns
