I know you guys aren't trying to build this thing, so you probably haven't looked at it as close as I have, but it's not a neon sign, and there is no way to make it solid, not to mention the 50's/60's styling to it and the entire off-kilter angles. I can't even get the drawing right yet.
Nice Ghostbusters, but I don't like the baseball caps myself.

I guess that is a good point theo, but I honestly don't think that they make neon lights that small, I am not sure if it is even possible yet. We don't necessarily dedicate all of science to neon lights.

It's not a neon sign! dafuq fellas??
1:1 drawing refined a bit here. grid is 5mm, so I'll need 5mm letters.
The little rivet-looking things used to be lightbulbs that chased each other in true 50's style
There is no neon
There is no neon
There is no neon
maybe if I constantly repost the screenshots it'll force you to look closer?

it's possible to make tiny neon lights, just no-one in their right minds would try . However a sane alternative does exist in the form of leaky fiber optic cables, or you could just use micro LEDs.
That doesn't look too bad, have you found something to use for the lettering yet?
All signs should be neon

Hey I can totally get you a template for that tomorrow. I don't have my computer with me now or I would have it today.
You can build it in about 4 layers. 2 for the triangle-shaped part. 1 more for the two lettered areas. A final one for the border.I would use the black material you have for the 2 base layers and some thinner plastic for the final two. Railroad lettering for the actual wording. Go nuts with rivets around the outside. Good to go.
Up to you.

Ok, New Vegas has a handful of neons still operating after 200 years, but only because of one guy building/maintaining them in the entire wasteland. Tell me how you get neon from this screenshot, then tell me where they are going to get the gas to make new neons, until then, neon is off the table for discussion. Even if it were theoretically possible to build working neon in this scale, AND even if it were economical to do that, it wouldn't look anything like the screenshot, which is what I'm trying to approximate in this scale model.

Thanks Taarnak! Finally someone talking practical! -Much appreciated!
I intend to build the base structures out of the black PVC foam because it's nice and carvable. Then I'll wrap thin plastic strips around the worded parts to form those oblonged rectangles before cutting out slots in the big triangle to fit those parts, followed by wrapping the triangle with PC strip to give the lip definition.
HOWEVER...I could use a more precise template. The triangle can't be more than 3" tall vertically and the horizontal would have to be proportionate to that, but not more than 2" ( I think). There is some wiggle room.

It is always funny how these things develop...someone starts a wild goose chase idea like that neon thing...(I am with you for once Dave ) and Dave is manning the fort to explain everyone how it isn't possible to be neon at all... It realy is funny... I enjoyed that trenchwar this time immensely...
And Dave, I hope you don't have that white foam at your mouth...(I joke...but only a little... )
Sketch of the sign looks very promising...although I have to say, the round raised rim will be a devil to get right...

I would have thought that using plasticard might be easier to file to get the curved corners, using the foamboard as a core, then you could bend and laminate thin strips for the bordered area.
Might be less frustrating to do the main shape as one piece and add edging, rather than carve in to a large triangle to add blocks in

Cool. I'll use those as a rough guide. The screenshots you posted are perfect. Once I have it all laid out (tomorrow afternoon-ish) I'll PM you and we can refine it more.

Perfect Cam! Ordered and paid for! Thanks buddy!
I just went to Michael's craft store and looked through all their alphabet stickers, nothing in the correct size, these will work splendidly, even if I have to wait a bit.
Noodles, I can't really explain how wonderous PVC foam is to work with. Cuts, sands, and glues very easy, yet it's as strong as wood and stronger than styrene. You really need to try it yourself to see the potential it has.
Yes Vik, it's always funny to follow these lunatic hobby convos we have, but I wouldn't trade it for anything And as for bending plastic, I built a Corvega, I'm not afraid

For the paint to stay so bright on that ancient Cornucopia sign means they must have used a HIGH lead based color series!

Considering what kind of world FO is spawned in, that would be so. Just list to the phrases Sgt RL-3 spouts if your character is neutral enough to get him.

Was reading this thread yesterday and the screenshots made me so nostalgic for Fallout that I checked out New Vegas in the Steam Store, and saw that I could get an uncensored english language version! (The normal german version is censored and even worse, comes with awful german voice acting and no option to switch to English).
So, thanks dsteingass, I've been playing the hell out of it and enjoying myself mightily!
Dead jealous of all your wasteland terrain. Gotta maintain focus on my current projects though.
Also, did you ever do any more with your awesome Bag End project?
