Hi, this is a Warhammer 40K battle report of Eldar vs Space Wolves (1000 points per side) The mission was capture and control , and the deployment was spearhead.

With this battle report we decided to do something a little different from our last one we posted a while back and show the whole game instead of re-capping turns, to took a hell of a lot longer but is much more fun to watch in our opinion. Please tell us if you like it, and which style of report you prefer, it'll be interesting to hear your responses xD

This was an interesting game to watch. But why did the Eldar player send the Howling Banshee Exarch to die in the Death or Glory move?
It seemed like a waste of a str 5 power weapon to me. Nevertheless, it's always fun to watch those ladies go to work

As for the video itself, I would suggest cutting out most of the dice rolling footage.
Unless there were some really awesome and/or hilarious results, it's not necessary to watch every single dice roll.
Best of luck in your next battle!

OMG by far the best Video Battle Report I have ever seen. I hope many people learn from you two. My god! There's editing! Detailed play by play! Voice overs! And I like the close in scrolling camera shots. Keeps it dramatic and interesting.

You two do a great job. You both should be proud.

Some critiques to help. The scrolling works well when you are shooting because you see what you are aiming at. Maybe you should apply that to the movement phase as well and show where you are moving the models relative to the board. In other words, it would give us a better sense of what they are headed to or running away from.

The dice rolls shots are neat and must be a pain to do. You might want to consider rolling in a dice tray so that they don't roll off camera and they will always be in focus.

Another trick to help better understand what you are rolling would be to use different color dice for hits, wounds and armor saves.

Like I said, great video. Roughly how long was the game in real time and how long did it take to edit? I want to do something similar at an 1850 point level. I am sure with practice on your recording techniques, the process will go by faster.

Thanks! Tbh by that turn we both knew how the game was going to end, so we started being a bit silly xD

Wow thanks!

Some great ideas there, we'll definitely use the tray thing if we do it again, it was a right pain trying to record those rolls.

The game was about 3 hours, but that includes a lunch break, filming time and general silliness, so it's hard to be sure exactly. Editing was easy, just a matter of dragging and dropping the clips in and speeding a few up, the voice overs took a while though as we kept messing them up :p

Your voiceovers remind me of the voiceovers at a snooker game. Great battle report.

That was a very well done battle report with very nice looking armies and generally excellent play by both players! You guys seem relatively even matched, so I look forward to future reports.

A few rules nitpicks and tactical advice, because I cannot help myself!

Space Wolves Turn 4 I noticed you fired the flamer from your Grey Hunters at the Dire Avengers, and also fired the Meltagun from the same squad at their tank. Was the unit firing at the tank as their primary target? If so you would have had to cover as much of the tank as possible with the template and would likely have gotten far fewer hits. Also, if the template is out of range of the tank, it auto misses even if it covers additional models that are closer. Additionally, if you targeted the vehicle, you could not have assaulted the Dire Avengers, even if the template hit them. The only way this would be possible is if the Dire Avengers were in the transport to start with and you wrecked/exploded it in the shooting phase. You may then legally target the unit that disembarks in the assault phase. This was the biggest mistake of the game and the only one that I think might have affected the outcome at all.

Eldar turn 4, when the Farseer and Exarch attacked the vehicle, the entire unit would have had to move into contact (and potentially roll Difficult Terrain because some of them likely would have had to move through the ruin). If they made it into combat, the unit would probably have been closer to the tank in general, so when it exploded it likely would have hit the entire unit of Banshees regardless of the size of the explosion. This didn't matter that much since the explosion was large enough to catch them all anyway. That said, I think you forgot to also hit the Jetbikes that were nearby, but I couldn't tell what you were rolling for so maybe not.

Space Wolves Turn 5, your opponents Exarch could not hurt the Predator, because the attack auto-hits against front armor (Sstrength 5 against AV13), and so he should have just moved out of the way. It didn't cost him that much though, because he still wiped out the unit he assaulted. To be honest, I probably would have just pivoted the Predator and shot the Banshees. You had an Autocannon and a pair of Heavy Bolters which do penetrate their armor, so you would stand a decent chance of killing most of them, forcing morale, and taking the objective with the Grey Hunters who neatly finished off the Jetbikes.

Excellent game though. I enjoyed this report as much as the last one and I think this film style is better because you can see the play-by-play and people can give you advice on your tactical decisions as the game progresses. Nicely done!

Yeah we realised that afterwards, luckily he only got a shaken result on the serpent so it didn't affect the game much

It's not clear on the camera but the whole unit did assault the tank, we just didn't roll for the banshees as they wouldn't have been able to hurt it anyway (S3 vs AV10). The jetbikes all took explosion hits but they have made their saves.

Space Wolves Turn 5, your opponents Exarch could not hurt the Predator, because the attack auto-hits against front armor (Sstrength 5 against AV13), and so he should have just moved out of the way. Wouldn't it have been rear armour since I assaulted? So it could have penetrated on a 6. As we've said already, by that point we both knew it was going to be a draw and starting doing crazy stuff, hence the tank shocking! Dunno why Lucas didn't just shot me tbh, that's what I would have done.

Excellent game though. I enjoyed this report as much as the last one and I think this film style is better because you can see the play-by-play and people can give you advice on your tactical decisions as the game progresses. Nicely done!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, hopefully we'll make another one soon

Death or Glory attacks always hit front armor, regardless of the attack being made (melee or ranged). It's a single attack, and it auto-hits, but the hit is resolved against front armor value.

Oh ok, if I'd known that I wouldn't have bothered. I think that was the first time I death or gloried ever, so yeah :p

I liked the battle report, it was well done so it was easy to follow and interesting to watch. I just wish the eldar could have just killed that last squad or grey hunters.

Yeah, I got really unlucky with that one :( Still managed to contest the objective though, so it didn't matter much.

Nice work on the editing and V.O. on the battle report.
You can improve the quality of future batreps by using a light along with your camera for close up shots. It's a quick fix when you need to shoot into shadowed areas or at dark subjects.

Nice Bat rep. Nice paint jobs. Fun friendly game.
Besides the rules nit picks already covered, I do not think that jetbikes can outflank, so I don't think your squad should have been able to do what it did.
The Eldar player turn five. I would have faced the Space wolf player on my objective, since if the game would have gone on he would have had a clear shot at your rear and the upper gun can swivle 360, so you still could have shot the razorback.

Good game though and nice video BAtrep, very fun to watch.... Thanks keep up the good work.

Thanks, that's a nice idea with the light, we'll try that out if we do another one.

Yeah someone on Youtube already pointed out the outflank error, for some reason I thought they had scout (Which would make sense imo), I'lll remember that for next time :p

There were units of grey hunters on either side of the serpent I believe, if I'd turned it around the ones that came out the Razorback would have got me. I probably would have been safest with the rear armour facing the edge, but oh well.

They can turbo boost 24" in a turn so they can zoom across the board well. Having a Warlock with Destructor and Shuri cannon or 2 makes for a decent troop choice, only disadvantage is that they can not tank shock. I like between 3-6 GJB and a Warlock with spear and destructor or Embolden. Good luck on future battles... cheers

Yeah. At 1500 I run 2 squads of 7 with 2 cannons and they always serve me well, the warlocks sound good too, I might try that out.
