I just got an email from GW asking if I'd like to take part in a survey about the hobby. Great, I can now get some opinions across. Wrong! First question was do you consider yourself a GW hobbyist? Yes I responded. Question 2: Do you particapate in GW tournaments? No I responded. Next screen; Sorry you do not qualify for this survey!
I'm still laughing hard at this 'survey!'
This is the text, no mention of tournaments:

Games Workshop Survey Invite
Hello,

As a valued newsletter subscriber we would really like your help with a survey.

One of our goals here at Games Workshop is to make sure it's as easy as possible for people to join the hobby community and enjoy it for as long as possible.

Our survey is designed to find out how you got involved in the Games Workshop hobby and what commitments you make to it as an active hobbyist.

If you would like to fill in the survey please follow the link below it will take approximately ten minutes to complete.

Games Workshop Survey

Thank you very much for your help.

Perhaps the survey is clearly going out to it's tournament base to see if they could possibly better support tournaments or even soft scoring issues.

Anyone actually take this survey?

EDIT for spelling.

Hmm... I didn't get it. I'm probably no longer a valued newsletter subscriber because I keep sending them shirty emails about their general rubbishness this year.

I can only reasonably deduct that they want the opinions of Tournament gamers.

Casual/Hobby gamers sorta do fall under the scope.

No, didn't get it. I got an email from Amazon trying to sell me Dreadfleet for £59.99

It's odd, I think a survey would be a great idea for them to do every couple of years - instead of Forums doing it with little consequence

They're probably using the survey to look for reasons to drop tournament support and spend those funds on something that they think will make more money, like space marine pogs.

You can just click the link and take the survey again if you want to go through and see the questions. Interesting stuff...

Guess it´s constructed like a tree-diagram.

Quite an effective system for a survey.

40% don´t participate in tournaments - there you have your first number.

Of the other 60%, x players use orks and so on.

Blessed be the mind that is too small for doubt!

Finally, some good old fashioned market research. They can't have sent it to everyone though, must be a random number of people. They SHOULD send it to everyone.

Interesting stuff, exactly what they should be doing more often.

Hmm...the second link doesn't let you continue unless you visit a store at least once a year - guess they figure you can't be that much of a hobbyist unless you do

Yeah, but the first link has a lot of bugs from multiple people responding to the questions multiple times.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Everyone in the Northeastern US is disqualified. It requires you to say how many times per year you visit a GW store, and if you say less than a year, the survey ends.

feth you, GW.

Your link must have been broken I answered yes to the first question and no to the other and proceeded without issue. Did laugh at the how did you get into the hobby question. Had to answer not interested in the internet as it didn't exist

Oh dear, Dakka has just become a self selecting sample, the bane of all market research

I completed it anyway and enjoyed saying I was spending less money than before.

Also, to be fair, the survey is aimed at the UK crowd. Money is in pounds, etc.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Huh - if you say your interest increased in the last 5 years, it doesn't then ask you if your interest declined and/or why

Will have to take it again to register my complaints...

To paraphrase Lisa Simpson...

"Is there was any way of answering this question which won't result in more price increases?"

Parts of the survey is poorly worded, but I applaud GW for actually doing something like this. Answered the survey (with the second link)

Lol, another bane of market research, a sample that decides that the survey didn't ask him the right questions and goes back and does it again.

We may be wrecking a finely tuned market research strategy here

Oh really? Well, if you didn't travel to go to a GW, then you haven't gone to a GW in more than a year. There are no GW stores in the Northeastern United States. Haven't been for years.

Right. I got that part. I'm telling you to lie.

Also, the survey isn't for the NE US or any part of the US. It was sent to gamers in the UK. Hence the questions are biased towards them.

I would agree - I could not decide what they meant by "sales promotion" - does that mean items being on sale, or some GW sales guy trying to sell you stuff you don't even collect and not getting the hint when you say you are not interested?

Also, there was nowhere near enough space on those forms to put in enough explanation as to why you have lost interest in GW products. There should have been an "other comments" section at the end or something
