*DISCLAIMER* I am genuinely curious on what you means about this. Am not trying to sound rude. Apologies in advanced if it sounds rude.

Like what? Could you use my Army as an example to show what how a army is painted can tell you?

Well from my army you can tell that I am truly lazy.

From mine, I'm an awesome painter, except procrastinating is so much better

My "armies" tell you I spend a lot more time painting then playing, since I haven't broken 1500pt on any single army, or even 1000 on most.

But at least they look super fancy in my display case.

I think sometimes a person's choice of army can tell you something about the person - or, maybe if a person tends to choose many similar armies, it can point to certain personality traits.

For example, I have a very fast and violent Khorne themed 40k army, a very aggressive Chaos army in Fantasy, and now I have a very fast and aggressive Flesh Tearer army in 40k.

I happen to like loud, aggressive hardcore punk rock and I do have a kind of intense personality.

I play horde armies, ranging from Imperial Guard (660 infantry models, with over 250 converted and painted in my style)

Orks, and well... thats it.

So that means I prefer quantity over quality, have a general disregard for human life, and prefer multiple solutions for any difficulties I may run into.

Also how they set up the army may descibe them, for example, all of my armies are non net lists, not a single vet squad or Vendetta in any of my IG lists. Throws a curveball at tournys.

Army choice doesn't tell me much unless a new codex cones out and all the sudden 85% of people are playing unpainted versions of that army. Tells me they ate going for easy wins.

Everybody thinks that his own army shows plainly to others that he's a very special snowflake who is in the hobby for more noble reasons than most.

It is never true.

Not unless they say it about themselves.

Associating army traits with personality traits can be just shallow stereotyping, until the owner makes the association himself.

For example -

Not all World Eaters players are full of rage
Not all Emperor's Children players dream of rape
Not all Eldar players are elegant and effete
Not all Space Wolves players prefer dogs to cats

Let the owner express his own connection to his chosen army, his subjective interpretation of the source material may be quite different from anyone elses.

I always thought people who played Eldar were pompous.

Nawww, I'd say Tyranids: Girls. Chicks love adorable space bugs.

I was split between two armies, Black Templars and Dark Eldar.

Looking at it bluntly, you'd say I'm a aggressive rage-oholic with a slit penchent for causing or taking pain.

Rather I'm an aggressive sorta person who likes writing stories and procrastinates alot. I think my two army choices really came down to two main things.

Kickass melee fighters and women. I always play the melee types in video games, and tend to gravitate towards playing females.

My army says that my painting style is sloppy and grungy and that I'm also rather clumsy. If the overall look is good, who care what went into it! (I often paint with fingers, cocktail sticks, toilet paper..). They do look good though, if I say so myself.

The army itself (DE) says how indecisive I am - "Assault based! No wait, I want shooty! No no, I want slow and serious! Nah, I'll take mix of everything!" - because I hardly ever take the same list twice.

I like the DE aesthetic style and speed, but I don't really think the actual race you choose says anything about you. Too many people have multiple races.
