My buddy Ben and I decided to have a 2000 Point rematch between his Tyranids and my Mech Eldar. Very exciting game. Leave some feedback!

Firstly - Good match!

I felt you (Bad_Sheep37) improved in this game with your tweaked list and better positioning.

I felt the Nids suffered from not taking full advantage of the Tervies - were they FnPing the Hive Guard? or were your saves just really that terrible?

Obviously the Nids were experimenting with Swarmy - I haven't used him before so I cant really comment but I agree the Flyrant works better in this list. Also, without the flyrant I feel the gargoyles start lacking a place in this list.

So Eldar? Prob wouldn't change the list at all, unless it was to swap out a fireprism for 3 scatter walkers that you could out flank (especially with 2 Autarchs)

Nids? Maybe 3 x 2 Hive guard if you've got the spare slot (unless this was for FnP shenanigans), move up the Tervies with the swarm a bit more (prob wouldn't spawn in a KP mission until you can spawn the gants straight into assault), and either speed up the list and drop swarmy or slow down the list and keep him.

All in all a fun game - good to see my two fave armies going at it

Cheers,

Slice

That is some really nice terrain work, guys. As usual, great batrep.

Great Batrep - however the 'Nid player made a few tactical errors.

1. He shouldn't be spawning Gaunts unless he has need of them. Particularly in a KP game, but as a rule of thumb, not worth spawning unless there's something pretty to eat.

2. The Tyranid List is a little off. I'd drop Swarmy back to a normal tyrant and delete the gargoyles in order to buff the stealers up to 15 strong each. Then, rather than outflanking, I'd infiltrate them and support them with catalyst. Believe me, 30 toxinstealers with FNP and 4+ cover is ridiculously hard to kill, and brutal offensively.

slice 'n' dice: No, I wasn't FnP-ing the Hive Guard, but I was doing a pretty terrible job rolling for my cover saves. For example, when swarmy got shot down by those fire dragons, I had a cover save but rolled 2 1's, a 2, and a 3. Not my best game as far as cover saves go, hahaha.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was actually thinking about adjusting my list to make room for another squad of Hive Guard (2 or 3) because, even though they did get shot up, they were definitely the MVPs of the game. I'm going to drop swarmy for the flyrant with either 2x Scy Tals or scy tals/LW and BS, maybe Old Adversary.

Junk: I wish we could take the credit for it, hahaha. That's the first time we played at Bell's and I was really impressed with the quantity AND quality of their terrain. They definitely have a really nice facility there for war-gaming.

Warboss: All of your suggestions are duly noted. As I mentioned above I will be dropping the swarmlord, but I was thinking of using the points for more Hive Guard, but I agree that more Genestealers certainly wouldn't hurt.

Besides some nid list issues there are a few suggestions. As stated I would not have spawned. The gants you did have should have been used as bubble wrap for either the hive guard or the swarmlord to give them cover saves. Gargoyles should have been used for cover as well. As you yourself stated you could have used Tervigon's better, remember that though they can spawn their maid job is to be a front lines force multiplier. they are a monstrous creature and thus they should have been eating vehicles.

I'm really looking into the 3 outflanking War Walkers. They seem like they would add a little dimension to the list. The only reason I shy away from it is because its not a grav tank...something about seeing 10 AV 12 skimmers on the table makes me a happy panda =)

Glad you guys liked the Report!

OORAHH Eldar... There you go. Great bat rep. Nids always suffer in KP games. I really think using a large squad of 30-40 gargoyles in front and trudge your whole army up. You had plenty of cover on the whole board. You were facing a fast army, but an extremely squishy... Close fast and annihilate.

Eldar - great game - where were the autarchs? did they do anything in the game. Fire Dragons are good for those monstrous creatures, Good game. Great bat rep and post talk.

You have star engine dragon serpents....who get shot at a lot turn one, and usually end up dead/weapon destroyed. Put shuricannons on them, move them near the WW when they out flank, then star engine in front of the WW after firing. Minimum gives the WW's a 4+ cover, or forces your enemy to pour even more fire into what is basically a cheap APC. Win win. Even better if you put a Farseer in with your dragons (don't dump him when you suicide your dragons out) to give a re-rollable 4+ to the WW"s his WS is sheilding (and why not guide as well).

That is not to say that I have any idea if this tactic will work, or that I have any experience with it. But, in true eldar fashion, I have no qualms about letting you sacrifice your own forces to test a theory for me.

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

@Eiluj - Yeah my Autarchs didn't do anything at all actually. They were there for the extra melta shots in the case that a MC would have crashed my lines. It turned out that I didn't have to use them so I just kept them inside away from harm. I didn't want to give up an easy kill point and risk them getting nailed by Gene stealers or something else that would crunch them.

@Dash - Your right, the dragon serpents do get shot at a lot. I do however have a reasoning behind the scatter lasers...mainly because their glued on there and already painted haha. But aside from that, in a lot of my games, those serpents don't go down AS fast as you might think. I can usually get a couple rounds of shooting with the scatter lasers before anything happens. I didn't use my star engines at all this game, but I wasn't really wanting to get to close to him. Against other armies, those star engines come in handy.

I would't have any problem testing out your war walker strategy...I just need some war walkers =) Also I like having that large blast that can turn into a str 7 ap 2. It just makes me happy. Not to mention I love the prism models.

Totally just realized that I wasn't using the Swarmlord's psychic powers AT ALL. He could have handled those Fire Dragons a LOT better than he did. Leech Essence them AND Paroxysm both would have helped tremendously.

Just goes to show you, know your army, hahaha.

More genestealers would have helped the Nids player a lot. However, awesome paint jobs on those Eldar vehicles.

Sheep and Fire, always great to watch you guys play.. I do think I still need to play against Fire's Nids. Nothing the ol Cleansing flame cant handle.. lets say maybe a 2k point list when you come back to the shop?

Really well done report; very nice. IMHO it's hard to make a good video report, but I think you guys did a great job; really good commentary with good detail and clarity. Nice, clear & steady camera work with a great board and largely painted armies and a close game. Can't really ask for more.
Seriously good report, was a pleasure to watch!

I agree with Ben's/yours(?) assessment that the Tervigons and Gaunts should've been pushed up more; whilst they are easier kill points, they can really help keep the pressure and target saturation going IMHO.
Again, great report.

@Rigeld - I'm not sure if I did or not. I didn't know they ignored cover though so I may have. Although most of the cover saves came from him shooting through more than 2 inches of area terrain, so I'm not sure what would have been done in that situation.

@Just Dave - Thanks so much for the compliments on the report. I'm striving for high quality battle reports and I'm looking to only make them better. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for watching.

It was my pleasure man. Well, I then had a look at some of your other reports and some of the proxies put me off, but I would really struggle to find fault with this report!

I had some negative feedback due to the proxies, and to be honest, the proxies started to bother me the more I was reporting. I haven't been recording games with proxies for that very reason. Its really nice to see reports with the correct models being used on the table. It does add a lot to game and the viewer.

I completely agree. Although I have watched the Tau and Grey Knights reports and they were still a lot of fun; the post-game analysis is a nice feature too.

@ Happygolucky - The terrain wasn't ours. We were actually playing a couple hours away from where we live on their local board. I think the terrain was made out of that 1 inch foam stuff that you can buy pretty much anywhere. I think its the blue insulation foam. pretty cheap stuff but can be made into some sweet terrain. Thanks for watching!
