On average, how long would we (Earth) last if were were to get attacked by any of the forces in 40K (but not, I repeat, NOT, the IoM. That particular horse has been beaten too many times).
Also, feel free to discuss how long we would last against a particular foe.

I will start with Dark Eldar:
I would say...about one day to a week. Depending on who is there, and the size of the force.

I think it depends on the race.

Tyranids search every nook and cranny for life and would probably beat us in a day or two, while Dark Eldar are less driven and might not scour the earth, giving us more time if we hide.

As long as it took them to physically conquer it.
All the races would have the technology to destroy the earth (or its inhabitants) anyway.

Dark Eldar don't like direct confrontations so there actually may even be a possibilty of beating them.

Tyranids, I give us less than a day but possibly and no more than a week

Eldar, Week tops

Orks, Week tops

Necrons, less than a day for sure

Daemons, Less than a day, unless they have a weakness to cast iron like in the myths, in that case we'll beat them back in shame with cast iron pots and pans

Tau, Month tops

CSM, roughly the same as what would happen with the IoM, we're fethed

Yeah, I think thats everyone.
Not sure about the DE though. I think that for some of these armies we will be a bit caught off guard if they like melee.

I can't convince the English to accept that the Germans know what's best for us, I doubt you could convince people that a load of aliens as overlords would be a good idea.
They'd probably make surgical, low-casualty strikes on key locations at first, until governments started changing their minds.

This seems like something they would do.

Take a world at about our technological level in the imperium, it's probably low-technological. We don't even have the modern conveniences of the imperium.

We'd last no time at all unless enemy forces were few in number. If that was the case it would just be a case of how long it took to work their way through out populations. Really we could offer no resistance at all, so the only limitation is how quick they could kill us. The idea we could put up enough of a defence to actually delay them seems a bit silly to me.

If we became a pain at all, they could just bombard the planet from space.

True, but this is all hypothetical. If they DID decide to take over the planet, how long would we last?

Perhaps a Haemy in Commorragh accidentally/on purpose released a virus in a slave area that killed a large portion of slaves and residents in that area. So, they needed a lot of souls to make up for it. Though that might be pushing it, as I have a hard time imagining what even the DE would want with 7 billion souls

Give us credit-we can nuke our own damn planet without the help of xenos. Mankind is stupid enough to do it without help. Of course, if we were attacked and couldn't win, we'd be damn heroic enough to nuke the planet just to deny it to the enemy. "Taste mushroom cloud, xenos sucker !"

Assuming there we're taking blowing up a planet or devouring it completely from orbit out of the equation, a week before our planet would be null of human life.

Necrons, Tyranids, and Daemons would do us in the quickest imho.

The DE have lots of weapons of mass destruction. It's heavily implied that some have the technology to snuff starts like the Eldar of old...Besides the the Haemonculii came up with a diseased that screwed over the Orks (Lady Malys story, I believe?). If they can get the fungi men sick...They could virus bomb us away in a day. Barring that, the big guns? They have lance technology...Apply enough of it...Planets die too.

The only thing is, they have no reason to 'conquer' earth. They'd swoop in, take as many slaves as they want, then leave. One day. They'd make it off as a nice place to gather cattle, rinse, and repeat.

A couple hours. Imagine a chaos space marine host lands on the asian mainland (largest expanse of open land on earth, right? Yeah.

So. People are freaking the hell out. Mass pandemonium and hysteria drive a large portion of society to do horrible things. Oh, and did I forget that a couple thousand daemonic super soldiers from 38000 years in the future are slaughtering everything they see? Yeah, well they are.

So the world's militaries probably band together and try to do something against them. But nothing really happens, maybe they kill three guys and break the tracks off a rhino. People give up hope, and the CSM call more of their host to conquer this feeble planet of some odd 7 billion people.

Unless that is wide scale, I honestly do not see them doing it in a few hours. A day maybe, but roughly 1/3 to 1/2 a day might be pushing it I think.

Yep.

And it seems that so far most people think that we will survive half a week at best.

Well, survive? Yeah, definitely more than a week as a species. I think I would give our governments a couple days to realize that they were fethed. Then as a society.... We would fall, I think.

40k doomsday theories are totally different from apocalypse-ish theories. You have to consider that these would be extra terrestrials to us. We would be paralyzed with fear and apprehension to the point of inability

Yeah, I can imagine few things as painful as being shot with a bolt or being ripped apart by a gigantic chainsaw. Or being just hacked apart by an 8 foot tall alien in a suit of armor

Hey, at least you won't live long with the bolt.

I think the 'Nids have some of the worst weapons to get shot with.
