At first I was using GW snow basing stuff I bought maybe 2 years back, and having run out recently I bought another tub of the same stuff because I liked it.
Apparently they have completely changed the product from a fine soft snow type material to basically white static grass.
If anyone has some sugestion for what would be a good snow basing alternative Id much appreciate the help.

The problem with baking sodas is that they can turn yellow as they age - it's rare, but it happens.
I believe woodland scenics do a powder snow, if you're looking for a replacement for the old stuff.

And just to add something useful http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/SN140/page/1 im guessing that is the stuff that A Kvlt Ghost is refering to

Mix a bit on white paint on baking sod. Now it won't turn yellow. Tried and tested.

Think the snow kits from people like woodland scenics are the only to get ultra realistic snow. Baking soda (bicarbonate of soda here) is a good, cheap compromise tho

If you mix the baking soda with white paint in a ration that gives a lumpy clumpy consistency (more powder than paint by far)then apply it with a toothpick in drifts or lumps then spread it around it gives a really nice deep snow effect. then while thats still wet dip the mini in some snow powder (woodlands is really nice) this will give the paint/baking soda a really nice top coat of powdery snow and makes your snow flock last forever since your only using a little to top coat. i personally don't like to cover the whole base in snow i like it to have a bit of rock or dirt showing through
im no master painter but ill post some pics of my SWs bases i get a lot of compliments on them at the LGS's i play at.

I recently found this blog post: http://sproketsmallworld.blogspot.com/2011/11/know-your-snow.html
It shows several snow examples using baking soda, micro-balloons, and crushed glass.
