Firing my Hellgun into a Fire Warrior's head....

You could be part of any race in 40k? Now not to fight as a Space Marine champion or a Chaos Daemon Prince. Just a normal citizens life maybe join up in the normal IG or something along those lines. In this reality though you would be working from the bottom to the..... well however high you get before you die.

Now you can choose any path you wish except those that you are chosen for like being recruited for space marine chapters and such.

For Example; IoM, Join the Guard, hopefully become commisar. However with the death rate of guardsmen would you take that chance? Or the unthinking obedience of tyranid this would be a short easy answer.

Being an Imperial Citizen royally sucks on the whole very few have decent lives it depends on the world you're born on, most of them suck.

I picked Ork because your needs are simple, you are easily ammused and a good scrap is heaven to you.

I chose Tyranid. Flashes of hundreds of different battles being a different creature every time. From the numberless hormagaunt to the mighty hive tyrant. Never truly dying, yet it would be so simple.

Just a note on this, guard don't become commissars. Commissars are recruited from schola progenum schools for their zealotry and trained from youth to be commissars. Guardsmen grunts don't really ever get to be anything but higher ranking guard grunts (stormtroopers, sgts, etc) at least going by the cadian versions of IG. Officers are trained as such from the start usually, just like most officers in the military here on earth.

As for your question I answered Eldar, best chance of understanding the universe, no poverty, life of discipline, etc. Yes your soul is doomed (if your soulstones fail to store it for whatever reason) and your race is basically dying off slowly, but thats true of pretty much all races in 40k. (New) Necrons are tempting too, as while yes they lost their souls they don't really have much need to care, and they are free to pursue their empires or whims or anything much else (as long as your high enough up to still have sentience). Ultimately as you said born as a commoner that would end up as a necron warrior, and that pretty much sucks, so that's why I didn't choose necron.

I had no idea, thank you for the insight. I should have figured as much, its kind of like today. An enlisted cant just be promoted to an officer.

Dark Eldar. Vect rose from a slave to the lord of freaking Commoragh, who say's a common citizen can't become at least an Archon? Also, the life of a decently positioned Dark Eldar is filled with little more than hedonism.

Tau worker, far from the battlefield. The numbers are small enough that they actually care for their civilians and workers, and you get to meet different races.

I wonder if the earth caste gets benefits?

I chose Necrons, as I'd raise my rank in the hierarchy -before bio-transfer- to become at least a decent level Necron -with conscious keepyness- then basically just do what ever you want, I mean Since the New'crons are no longer slaved to their lords will-which was then slaved to the C'tan- what would stop you from just saying "well its been fun killing most life with you but I'll go do something else now." I suppose your Lord would try, But if you defect to Tau and fight for the greater good....
Also being Immortal would be cool -unless your a warrior, then it would suck.-

Unless I'm misremembring, stormtroopers are orphans raised in Scholae Progenium - like commisars, they're pretymuch trained for their roles all their lives.

Ah! You are correct, the stormtroopers are raised from youth just like commissars, shouldn't have tacked them on to the quick list of examples. Thanks for the addendum!

Inquisitor of the Ordo Historicus, I think. Being able to drink amasec whilst sat in libraries/archives/own personal library checking books, scrolls and dataslates as my job? Ahmmm. Would suit me perfectly.

Or if personal creations, such as my Ordo above are not allowed, I'll go with being a gunner on a Marauder bomber.

These threads are always kind of amusing to me... The only 2 choices that a rational person who fears for their life and doesn't want to live in utter poverty or depravity are Eldar and Tau.

Eldar actually do care about their citizens, and they work damn hard to keep those spirit stones preserved. Sure they think the rest of the races are trash, but you can bet that even if you are in the Eldar Military they aren't going to fight by sending wave after wave of grunts at their enemy until it works (I'm looking at you Imperial Guard). I also get the impression that if you were randomly born onto a craftworld you would likely be a lot better off than somebody randomly born in the Imperium (probably in a hive world slum...). The Paths would be a drag, and living in a very monk like society would severely hamper your freedom, but a craftworld probably offers the safest, most educated places for a civilian to be born in 40K

Tau advantages are a short life and little warp presense- so you get in and get out quickly and don't stick around in the warp to get absorbed by the Chaos gods. The greater good may be restricting, but it probably offers you more freedom than the Paths of the Eldar. So it really comes down to what you value more.

As for Dark Eldar... their society is just brutal. You can't take anything for granted and you definitely get all of the downsides of everything being judged on personal merit. Back stabbing, murder, rape. Pretty much all of the darkest things you can imagine are day to day life in Commeragh. If you can see yourself embracing that... let alone succeeding in that world by being more cut throat, rape more people, and backstab more friends than everybody else then more power too you...

Not really a contest..

Dark Eldar, you're surrounded by the absolute most beautiful and erotic women in the galaxy, who do things to dudes that would make a Commissar defect and an Ethereal vomit.

Not to mention your life would be all about how supremely awesome and really really ridiculously good looking you are.

Unless there is something better in 40K than being surrounded by amazingly beautiful women who are all totally into messed up stuff.

As for me, my safe word would be banana and I'd asked to be dropped off in the nipple clamp district of evvvvvil! Throw away the key baby! Commoragh ftw!

Screw being some robot or bug man! And the only worse than the bug or robot is the poor ape getting eaten or zapped! feth that!
