Was waiting all month for this update. Now I can number crunch lists without the headache of a calculator and good ol' paper/pen. God I'm spoiled.

Now I only really play with Ogres I have let my license lapse and am finding spreadsheets quite good fun. I already had my list variants done with a week or two of the book coming out. The FOW part was quite handy but for the other games I play I find it just as easy to do it on paper.

I find their business model amusing - continually get people to pay for a product that is useless unless others do the work for you for free. The updates which are essential to the product aren't very quick (not a dig at the people who do it for free). Got to admire the cheek of it really.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

I'm the opposite. I find it insulting. After going years with no updates since they were more interested in Hero and Card Vault releases, I did not renew my license. When 3.2 came out, I found I'd have to pay all those years in arrears. No thanks.

Fortunately, there's this that is free and runs on any platform, including mobile.

It's not that hard to check for updates weekly on your own. I let my license expire and I get by just fine.

That being said, the site is not working atm.

Strictly speaking not true. Updates are in new version. No license no new updates.

I think he means update to a game file, not updates to AB itself. So unless a new version of AB comes out you can manually update game file updates without having an up to date license.

Until they have a web-based version that I can access from anywhere on any device I'm not too interested.

Been playing this long with pen and paper and it works just fine.

I can't find any files for it, I can't find any at all :/

I'm probably rather stupid for asking, but does anyone know where I can get the data files for this so I can use it?

Wolflair.com is down today for some reason which is why your update isn't working.

EDIT: manual download page is up at least.

Every time I see a quick update like this--I always think of the guys doing these data files (for free). If you guys ever travel to a con--make sure to wear a shirt with "I WRITE DATA FILES FOR AB" on it--so everyone can buy you a round.

Semi related note, anyone know if 40k 2nd ed files can be found for the latest AB version?

No one's written them.

Really, no need is seen, as barely anyone still uses 2nd(I AM aware there are some hold outs and the occasional nostalgia game) and it's a massive headache writing a by hand list for the game, much less programming all those combos.

Not sure about Battlescribe, but I sandbox Army Builder inside a Windows XP virtual machine. It's the only reliable way I've found to get it to work in Linux, as it doesn't really get along well with Wine. I can think of no technical reason why Battlescribe would be any different. Go download the ubuntu version of VirtualBox, and then all you need is a install for Windows and you're in business.

It is quite unfortunate that Wolflair hasn't done a Mac OSX version that uses the same file types as the current. Linux still has like a 2% market share so I don't imagine that happening any time soon.
