hi guys
looking at mounting some articles on the tops/rears of some of my tanks but dont want to just hang it on there or strap it on with a single strap so was wondering does anyone have any tutorials, guides or information on how to model webbing cargo holders similar to this:
failing that does anyone know of any makers of kits/components that make them in an appropriate scale, mayeb for GI joes or similar?
cheers guys

Maybe real thin stips of plasticard or cardboard latticed across the disired area?
Or greenstuff.

What about 2mm wide ribbon? http://www.simplyribbons.com/rats-tail-ribbon--2mm-double-satin-ribbon-320-p.asp If you get the right colour you might even be able to leave it unpainted and benefit from the fabric weave

A lot of military modeling uses thin strips of aluminum foil, cut to size and properly detailed with small pieces made to look like buckles, to do webbing.
When you coat the foil with a bit of PVA glue and let it dry, it hardens into the position you want it to be in.

If you check out the website called "squadron.com" they have a ton of photo-etch parts that are used on tanks. Typically in the AFV modeling world photo-etch is used to replicated that sort of thing. I have also seen tarps being created to cover things, that is pretty easy to really, just some kleenex and pva glue and you are good to go.

What about the net bags used to hold orange, when you buy them prepackaged, at the grocery store. I'm assuming they package them the same in the UK as in the US, but not sure, never been to the UK.
Would be cheap, and you get your vitamin C as well.

If memory serves, the plastic netting used to bundle produce is a to glue, but it might do the trick. There are different sizes - I'd aim for an onion or garlic bag over oranges, if your grocers package things the same as mine do.
Initially, I was going to recommend loosely woven cotton gauze, but if you want something as chunky as the 40k heroic scale and your provided reference pictures would suggest, I might experiment with weaving PVA soaked paper strips together, in lieu of the lead foil strips or photo-etched brass I would want to use on a more realistic model.

Having worked military cargo, the straps you show in your first post are used for securing gear to air force pallets - and I never ran across anyone who used them to secure gear to vehicles in 5 years in Iraq. Having said that, the second link you provided looks like what we called a 5k strap - and those were used all over the place to hold gear on things - and for other uses when they were cut or broken.
