This is a showdown between a beautiful Deathwing army and my Footdar.

Ouch, seems like Andrew didn't sacrifice enough kittens to the dice gods!

I was a bit skeptical of his deployment, but after seeing his DW command squad position at bottom of 3, it appears he made the right decision with the game possibly swinging in his favor. Unfortunately, luck is always a random factor that can make or break a game. It's hard to imagine 2+/3++ and FNP failing that so many saves.

Both armies are beautifully painted.

Thanks for sharing!

That was pretty unlucky, you mentioned he wasn't using square dice???

I will...never be a memory

Yeah, Andrew played well, but his dice were awful. I felt bad killing such a gorgeous army.

We all use square dice as they roll closer to a statistical average than round edged dice. We jokingly call them cheater dice! (They don't actually grant any kind of unfair advantage).

Once again....Bravo!!! Another amazing battle report and very nicely painted armies, thought you might have been in trouble when that belilial command deathstar hit your lines though, but well played out.....would love to come down and play reecius for myself....it just might take a minute coming from Georgia lol

Yea that's the trouble with terminator armies, when the dice are cold you REALLY feel it. He had a good plan though, hopefully this doesn't discourage him.

That would be awesome to play you, TheGrimReaper911!

It was indeed a very bold move on his part, and had it worked, he would have definitely gotten back in the game, but the dice gods were cruel.

@Red Corsair
Yeah, that is the problem with those small elite armies, when they fold, they fold hard.

There are two steps to dealing with bad dice. As Reece said, getting new ones with squarer corners seems to mellow/average out results.

Second, toss the old ones.

I looked up from my 40k game the other night, and a Fantasy player walked over to the trash can, and up-ended his dice tin, which of course, was greeted with much hooting and hollering.

Andrew's army looks great. I was hoping for a close-up of your footdar Reece.

I felt bad just looking at the DW list. Footdar excels against elite armies like them. Andrew had a good strategy but just not much luck in the execution.

My god, talk about a stunning looking Army! I can't even imagine doing any of the freehand painting that the Deathwing player did, it's just amazing.

It's so enjoyable seeing two fully painted armies square off, and really, that was my favorite part of the report was seeing both of those beautiful armies on the Tabletop.

He seemed to do really well if this was one of his first games, especially well for never facing Eldar before. When the dice gods have spoken, not much you can do. I know my consistently sterile Tervigons feel the dicegods wrath often.

Oh man, that army was beautiful! I'd love to see some photography of the models if he is able to put some up online. Your Footdar are pretty solid as well, and I wouldn't mind seeing some photos of them either!

A great report, as always. Too bad his dice were so terrible. It might have been a closer game if he had rolled closer to average, but dice are a big part of the game, and occasionally they decide to rape you without the lube. That's just the way it goes.

That's some more pictures of my Eldar, for anyone interested.

Yeah, the dice are a big part of the game, and with a small, elite army like that, when they go bad, you suffer for it.

@Jy2

I agree, that is a tough match up. Footdar have so much flak fire that they just chew through termies. I rolled randomly for which army I would play though, I didn't choose it on purpose. When I play friendly games, I just basically toss a coin as to which army I bring, and pretty much never my wolves. It's more fun that way.

Since a Deathwing battle report is the subject...

Do you guys feel Deathwing needs a Librarian, with Grey Knights, Blood Angels, and Chaos Lash of Submission in the mix at GT level events?

While I love my deathwing, proper footdar is an issue for them.

His deathwing list could probably tweak a lot of the expensive upgrades out for either more termies or more dreads. The las cannon and missle both cost premium on that dread, as does the libby in general... Enough to get a whole extra termie squad. I do like land traider crusaders for pure deathwing though, and his looks great.

I don't understand how rounded dice could not role the average. Even if the rounded edges favor a side all sides are sounded so it should not benefit one side more than the other. Also if rounded dice do favor a side you are just as likely to have rounded dice that favor 5 and 6 to go with dice that favor other numbers so rolled together should be close to average

I want to see DeathWing vs Scarab Farm.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

The rounded edges of Chessex dice and maybe other brands are for lack of better word, GARBAGE. They just roll bad, unusual high amount of 1's rolled.

Dkellyj, I too would like to see more developments on the Reecius scarab farm front, plus this Deathwing could always use more camera time.

Yeah, the LD9 libby is such a drawback, I don't know what Jervis was thinking with that.

We have further tuned up the Scarab Farm list, but have had no time to paint it at all. We have just been so busy with the BAO, painting commissions, the store, etc. I wish there were more hours in the day!

We'll try and get a Deathwing vs. Scarab Farm battle up though, and see if Andrew wants to come back, his army is stunning.

@Ogryn
Thanks!

As for the dice, square edged dice still favor a side due to the pips, but the square edges offer more resistance to rolling than the rounded edge dice do. We have found, and read, that square dice roll closer to an average. I'll put it this way, after playing with square dice, no one goes back.
