So I'm planning on doing a modular winter board some time next year with a water fall, pool, and river sections, but I've never made a water feature. So I decided to practice with a small piece for my city board. It's a urban pool with a saints statue in it, surrounded by walls. I'm still planning on makeing the pool deeper and I want to add junk to it such as leaves etc. Heres what I have so far. I also think I may add some green and brown washes to the walls to give it a more wethered look.

I'd like to suggest a nice wash over the statute and stone to give blend it into the whole grim 40k theme and add some extra depth, otherwise I love the attention to detail like the decayed guards man although I'd like to see his bones with a darker wash as well assuming he's been in that water and it isn't bleach infused

great work all in all, i'd love to see more of your stuff

also if its a winter board (what im currently working on) you might want to consider snow piled up ontop of the walls in and swept up against the walls

I was actually thinking of doing a green wash to patina the statue. I doesn't show well in the pic's but the metal has like 6 layers of highlights and looks fairly realistic in person. As for the skeleton, he was a last minute addition. Originally it was just his skull as a nod to the fact that ALL 40K must have Moar Skullz!!!, but then I decided to rip up one of my VC skellies to add a body. As I had already poured the ewater he went in as is. I'm hopeing the successive layers of water will cover the bones and hide some of the bleached look. This piece isn't actually for a winter board, its more of a test before I commit to that big of a water feature, This piece is for my general city fight board. The water was done using woodland scenics realistic water with some watered down camo green added for that rotten, algae look. Thanks for the compliments. Love it, did you sculpt the walls or are they premade?

To make the walls I cut them from blue insulation foam, then drew on a pattern with a ball point pen. I then went over this several times, each time pressing a little deeper until I had the depth that I wanted.

Thanks. It took a bit but it really lets you get deep between the rocks. I've tried just pushing deep on the first pass and the foam tears. I fairly pleased with the look but I'm still contemplating taking the time to give them some washes.

That's looking really great. Some washes of brown over the stone would certainly help make it look more natural. You could also represent moss growing on the walls with some flock?

Minor update- Did one more layer of water and added basil to represent junk in the water (Thanks to aledrion on terra genesis!). Also did some washes of green and brown on parst of the stone walls but when dry they aren't very noticable so I may have to switch to dry brushing lightly. Over all I'm pleased with the piece. Eventually I will add enought to totally cover the skeleton but I'm out of the realistic water so that will have to wait a little bit.

Good work!

Will the basil leaves be safe from mould? Maybe you should put a thin layer of clear resin on top to seal them.

pretty much all the basil is coated by the water which forms a seal like resin so it should be good. Plus I plan to put some more layers on top once I can get some more water and that will seal it for sure.

A little weathering on the helmet and lasgun might help too. The body has rotted away to bones, and yet the helmet and lasgun look good as new. Leaves a little discord in the appearance.

What would you suggest as far as weathering the lasgun and helmet? Maybe some scratches with boltgun metal? Any other ideas?
