Just wanted to share these platoon markings I made for my orks today, using 0.5mm thick plasticard.
The squares are 4x4mm. So it was a bit fiddly.

From left to right, they're the ork glyphs for A,B and C(orks have the same glyph for k,c and q..)

Representing Alpha, Beta and Cappa platoons. The letters will be painted light red (for squad one), medium red (for squad two) and dark red for the attached kommando squad. The koppta squads attached to each platoon will be medium red.

So, platoon Alpha is 2 shootasquads of 12, one kommando squad and one kopta squad.

Now onto the pics, first pic is next to a matchbox, and the second to my Barry. I'll make insta-mould moulds from these for massproduction this afternoon if I can find the energy (I'm sick and running a fever :( ).

What do you think? Might trim the triangles a bit once the glue has set properly..

Ps. Sorry about the huge pics, my computer is dead, so I can't modify them, uploaded it all with my iphone...

First batch are in the mould, so I should be able to start applying 'em tomorrow. (made 7 moulds for A and B, 4 for C).

4 batches should be enugh for the stuff I have assembled.

Ah well, I guess it's not that impressive work. Think I'm mainly proud of it as it'll kick off the work on the rest of the army. Got some 65-70 boys in various degrees of progress in the converting process waiting for these.

Odd that I finally got working on these when I'm running a fever.

Good idea, but where are you going to put them on the figure? Or are you going to put them on the base?

They're to be attached on the upper arm. Haven't decided if it's to be the left or right one yet..

Hmm, don't know if the Swedish military does it this way, but in the US Army what shoulder your unit patch is on denotes whether you've seen combat or not - just a thought.

Should be on the dominant arm
Right arm if they're right handed, ect.
I like the idea though

What I hope is the last batch, are in the moulds as I write. (need the instamould for another project, I love that it's re-usable.. Just store the original detail, and tou can make new moulds if you need more...).

Will start trimming the edges on the ones I have this afternoon, and take a pic of 'em all tomorrow when the last batch is finished.

Lot of work next week though, but I hope I can attach one of each on a member of the squad, paint it up and upload it here

I like this idea and after much thought (2 seconds) I might have to do someting like this for my orks.

Feel free to steal the idea mate, inspiring others is one of the reasons I post here (and read here to get inspired).

It's easy to do, if a bit fiddly. Once you got the moulds done though, it's easy sailing.

Here are the ones that are cleaned and done so far. Bear in mind that they're 4x4 mm.

What a cool, yet so simple, idea. I will be remembering this for later...

Brilliant solution to squad identification - effective and plausible. If I repeated this, I'd probably use thinner card for the markings, themselves, or sand the top down a bit before molding. They're just a tad high for my taste. Even with that, though, they're going to look great!

Thanks for the kind words.

The originals were made with 0.5mm plasticard thickness IIRC, the thinnest that I had availiable.

Due to me not being too carefull during the moulding process, the "backs" so to speak, are a bitt too thick, and they'll need a pass on a file, but I think that'll be a quickie before gluing them on.

There's a pic with all the casted ones in a box with a Barry in one of my first posts in this thread:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/423137.page;jsessionid=2FC7D05236CE3D4BAEBFE905E3ED8804

And as you can see, the glyphs themselves doesn't look as thick as in some of these pics.

I'll most definately toss upp pics once I've glued some on and painted them.

Just remember, this is TINY stuff you're working with...
