I love blue (Go look at the Valkyrie in my plog if you want evidence) and you're doing great things with it. I suspect I'd make the membranes a little lighter, given that the skin tones are going to get highlighted.

I think you're justified in buying the Games Day warlord, what with them going for silly prices on ebay already (and I've seen auctions that say 'you pay now, I will be picking it up at games day UK at the end of september, I will send it then)!

Painting is looking great, I really like the blue on the DP, you don't see many people using that deep a blue now, the current trend is for more pastel blues on the scions of change.

Bunny, I like your pics of the Prince thus far. Congrats on switching to Vallejo - that's ALL I ever use now! Just gets annoying how some colors are runnier than others, and some are super thick (e.g., gunmetal grey). Thought for the back wings of the Prince. Would you consider adding in a hint of purple for the darker shading? May look nice along with the silver. Keep up the good work! I have to admit I'm nervous about what you're going to do with the Eldar - afraid you'll quickly put me to shame with my stuff! LOL

I really like your rat peoples and your lizard peoples. It makes me want to get some. I remembered years ago my exwife and I bought a gw painting kit back in like 2000... it had lizard peoples. We tried copy the pictures of how they were painting the models on the box. That was a mistake.

Brian - Haha, you're so funny. Sorry to burst anyones little dream bubble but I plan on staying single for a bit. I'm quite tired of people in general at this current moment in time. For the wing membranes I was thinking a highlight of Ice Blue (which was the original base color for the membranes) or a light purple, or a mix of the two. Thoughts?

Leigen_Zero - That Warlord cost me $30, which is quite a bit cheaper than if I had traveled all the way down there to get it. To save $15 on the model itself would've cost me something like $2000 for airfare, hotel, food etc. Although it would've been nice to get out of the city and travel somewhere. Glad you like the DP. I wanted something different than the red and light blues that I've seen bumping around so I just went for it. I'm thrilled it's turning out well.

GiraffeX - I'm trying to keep myself busy so I don't fall into a little emotional sink hole. That could get messy. o_O

Makhoy - I'm glad I'm switching over after 10 years of GW paints. I hate mixing colors with the pots 'cause I find it to be a pain, but with the dropper bottles I figured it'd be easier. Also now after trying out Vallejo, I love the consistency, the range of colors and just in general how nice it looks. Kinda wish I would've switched sooner. I'm stuck between purple and blue. Not sure which would be better. I wouldn't worry about your Eldar if I were you. You've done very well on them, especially love your Harlequins.

djphranq - Why was it a mistake to copy the box? Didn't turn out well? The only reason I copy boxes is my moments of creativity are few and far between. The painting kit I bought had Bretonian Archers in it...the only reason why I have any Brets at all. Ick. I don't like Bretonians, Empire, or IG. No offence to any players of these armies, but I'm just not a fan of anything too human. I mean, we're all humans and I see humans everyday so why would I want to paint and play a human army. Let's get a little crazy ya'll!

I'm very tired and probably shouldn't be online right now...haven't gotten any painting done if the past couple of days either. Haven't had time nor the energy. Freakin' work's kicking my a$$. Hope to have something for you guys to feast your eyes on soon though so stick around.

What I meant was that we tried to imitate what the instructional pictures were showing where some guy was brushing on white paint on a plastic part. We thought that's what you had to do. I don't remember what happened to the rest of the box. I think there were three models in there plus one of those plastic rack type thingies... like beginner's paint... instead of pots.

I agree with your sentiments about switching from GW to Vj paints. Out of interest, are you using Game Color or Model Color? Also, which blue and purples do you find work well from the range?

And millions of Dakkaites cried out...and were suddenly silenced.

I think a test of the light blue and light purple 50:50 mix might be interesting, but unless there's some purple or deep reds to tie into on the rest of the model, I'm not sure.

djphranq - I'm not quite following. Did you get it at a GW store 'cause I started in 2000 and I don't recall seeing anything like that.

inmygravenimage - Model Color. Is there a difference between Game Color and Model Color? Also, embarrasingly I only have two colors, a grey and a brown. I'm only capable of buying about 2 colors every week or two and I just switched I think a couple weeks ago. My next color purchases will be a turquiose and a white, then I can continue with my DP.

Brain - The poor babies... -_- There's no purple or red on the model as of yet, but I did need a color for the loincloth that's behind the chainmail bit. Maybe make that purple or red? I learned something at work tonight....I can lift 108lbs....barely...but I can do it...damn bedframes. And I thought my weight limit was 80lbs. Ya learn something new everyday. Gave me a bit of an ego though. o_O

Bunny, where have you been buying your Vallejo's? I could PM you with the place I get mine (<$3/color). Also, if you decide to try the purple on the Prince, you might want to consider trying Vallejo's "Sick Blue" - it's a really deep ark rich purplish blue. "Warlord purple" would be another option - it's a medium tone, slightly reddish purple. This one might blend well with your current blues. I've personally got 41 Vallejo's, most of them are Game Colors. There are different shades in the Game & Model series, I think you'd probably want to stick with the Game Colors. Make sure you REST! We female painters need to take care of ourselves! ;-)

Model Color is much thicker; Game Color is pre-thinned. Both good for different reasons.

inmygravenimage, I think you may have them reversed. I've got 2 Vallejo's that are really watery, and both are Model Colors. I otherwise haven't noticed much of a difference in the thickness between the two otherwise.

Hmm. Allegedly MC is the thicker, though there is variation (GC gunmetal is notorious). I have Khaki from both ranges by chance (cheap FoW paint set to good to pass up) and it's very noticeable when inadvertently pick the wrong one! I would say, for example, GC greens and reds are much thinner, certainly. Still, it's interesting to know your experience is the reverse.

Makhoy - I'm buying my Vallejo paints from a store called PM Hobbycraft. The paints are around $3 a pot, but when one only has $1.50 left in their bank account, even $3 is out of their range. I've been looking for a better paying job and hopefully I'll find it soon. Once I find it I should be fine. Rest? With 2 dogs (one of which is only 6.5mths old and not housetrained), a cat, a rabbit, 2 new fish (I GOT PUFFER FISH!!!), a 13 month old baby boy and a night job, rest isn't in my vocabulary. But thanks for looking out for me. Nice to know someone cares.

Trondar - Thanks for stopping by, glad you liked what you saw.

inmygravenimage - I prefer a thicker paint over thinner 'cause if it's too thin, I don't think there's much one can do about it, but a thick paint can always be thinned relatively easily. The main reason why I decided to switch over in the first place is 'cause the dropper bottles seem like they would make it much much easier to mix paint accurately and easily.

killykavekommando - Please excuse the possibly stupid question, especially from me who has been painting for 10 years, but what do you mean by saturated looking? But thanks. The Kroxigors aren't neon. They're Ice Blue with an Asurmen Blue wash and highlighted with Ice Blue. The scales are Enchanted Blue washed with Asurmen Blue.

So in case no one noticed my capitals above, I recently lost my Goldfish last Saturday (poor Roger was only 4 months old). I think it was my fault though...think I used too much of the stuff that's supposed to make tap water safe for fish...I think I accidentally doubled the dose without realizing it...oops. So, feeling lonely with an empty tank bubbling away I was in dire need to spend my last amount of monies to buy new fishy friends. I went to the fish store with no idea what I was going to get, or what would be able to live comfortably in a 10 gallon tank. Wandering around I came across a tank of Figure 8 Pufferfish...and they were perfect for what I had, so I bought two. I have always wanted pufferfish, have always been fascinated with them and thought that they were only for marine tanks. Thank everything on Heaven and Earth that I was wrong. They only get to be about egg size, so two fit very comfortably in my tank. I named them Puff and Poof. Finding these lil' guys made me so giddy I decided to do a bit of painting after I got my little guy to bed. Unfortunately it's time for bed just before I finished the Stormboy I was working on. Just needs a few highlights and a bit of basework. Behold pics. And yes, I drilled my gun barrel.

Thanks for looking, reading and happy painting.

Edited 'cause I seem to be hitting all the wrong buttons on my keyboard. Can't blame me...it's 5:45am...I be tireds...

Thanks. I don't think I'm quite at the scratch building stage yet. I've never ever even used Greenstuff yet, so perhaps we should start there?

I'd personally love to get two more for a total of 4 (that's my fav number) but I can only fit two or else they'll be too crammed and start eating each other. o_O Crazy evil violent fishies. Piff, Puff, Poof made me giggle though. Reminds me of how my mother had 3 bunnies when she was in her 20s named Bibbles, Bubbles and Babbles.

Congrats on the additions to your "family"! Would love to see pics of them! Back to paints - I think you'd be happy with the Game Colors (Vallejo). It's really nice being able to do the blending - 2 drops of one color to 1 drop of another. For when you DO have more moolah - check out TheWarStore.com; Neal has ALL the Vallejo colors (I think), and they're only $2.59 each. I think you'll be pleased with the color range. Their customer support is awesome as well.

Hey, bunny - I just got a unit of Swooping Hawks, assembeled & primed them. Hope to have them finished next weekend & will post pics on my blog, would love to hear what you think of them - so please check it out next weekend. I'll send you a PM as a reminder, if you like!

The stormboy is looking pretty sweet, I'd love to see some wear & tear on the metal jawplaet and shoulder pads!

Pufferfish are lovely, there was one the size of a large potato at a local garden center, could watch it for hours because it looked like it was stoned off it's face! They can be a bit of a challenge to keep mind (I don't have fish my self, but I was thinking about an aquarium so ended up doing a lot of research a while back), and you have to keep the tank quite sparse, and any points/sharp edges can puncture them if they decide to inflate.

Looking forward to more updates!

How did I not notice the part about the puffer fish! I thought they were marine only too. I have a large tank (my wife keeps guinea pigs who delight in pooping round my painting area!) and my loaches quite often come to have a look at what I am up to. Considering painting is actually quite a lonely hobby at times its the little things like that that help it along just that little bit more!

tipios - I have thought about weather, but I'm a very 'clean' person so it just feels weird for me to 'dirty' up something that I've spend a few hours delicately painting........that and I've never done it before so I'm a little scared of painting a whole model then messing it up right at the end. I am NOT a fan of re-doing things.

Makhoy - Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check the store out once I get a bit more green flowing through my fingers. If I get my way I should soon.

killykavekommando - Yes, the first page consists of a few models from several years ago. I remember I used to lay it on pretty thick back then before I learned about thinning and layers. But I'm thrilled you think I've improved, thank you.

taffiarti - Thank you so much. I love loaches. If I wasn't able to get the puffers, I probably would've ended up with a few loaches. I think they're adorable. I've only had my puffers for a couple days now and they already seem to know me. When I walk up to the tank they swim to the front and just hang out and look at me. I think they've come to realize quite quickly that me = delicious food. Unfortunately I can't see the tank from my painting desk, but just knowing they're there and being able to go say hi anytime makes me happy. I loves my fishies.

Leigen_Zero - He's not done yet. I'm not sure where you started checking out my blog, but I have a few other Stormboys in here somewhere where I did some wear and tear on the red metal bits which is what I was planning to do with this guy, I just ran out of time. The decorations in the aquarium are all round edged, so they should be fine. Did you know they also need to eat snails as they age 'cause they have beaks which constantly grow throughout their lives, just like hamster teeth, so by eating the snails, shells and all, this keeps their beaks trim. Bet that'll be fun to watch. I'd love to see them inflate, even just once, but I can imagine you'd have to scare them pretty bad and that'd be stressful for them and I don't wanna stress them for my own selfish entertainment...but I bet it'd be cute.

They inflate when threatened, and since you have a 13 month old baby an inflation will probably be inevitable apparently they love live food rather than pellets or flakes, didn't know about the snails but it makes sense, seeing as they would probably nibble on coral in the wild (which is a bit expensive as an aquarium food).

I probably have seen (and commented on) the previous stormboyz, but that was >5 pages ago so I've probably forgotten, I'll have to do some back-tracking
