Deffrollas are back! I wonder if you need to decide between deff rolla and wreckin' ball if you have both, or if you can turn your battlewagons into close combat monstrosities.
Also, for some less obvious news: Open topped confirmed to be 4+ armor save. The barge is currently open topped and the first vehicle we see without 3+ save.
Oh, by the way, you can now lock leman russes, wave serpents and predators in combat with a trukks (and buggies!) and prevent them from shooting that way

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

I'm absolutely ecstatic after seeing the vehicle teaser for today. This will truly be the "Drive me closer, I want to hit them with my sword!" edition. Or in our case, hit them with our choppas!
I could see Deffrolla hits doing multiple wounds, maybe something like S10 AP:-2 Damage: D3.
Then for the wreckin' ball, it'd be S9 AP: -1 , Damage 2.
The question is if the reinforced ram will just be a weapon profile, or something that buffs our strength or to hit rolls?

So pistols can be used by embarked units when a vehicle charges? Feels like that could lead to some interesting tactics depending on how embarked units act when the vehicle is destroyed. Could be cool to forgo the disembark / charge phase all together and just ram your boys straight into the fight.

I would probably hold off on confirming open-topped having a straight 4+ armor save, I imagine there may well be some variance in that. It would make a fair bit of sense, but I'm not so certain.
However, I am absolutely looking forward to grabbin' klaws, wreckin' balls, and deffrollas to not be useless. Though, that too is unconfirmed, but I imagine it's a fair bet that they'll be more useful than they are now.

Though if that is the case, then the 'ard case upgrade (if it still exists) would actually make sense if changing from an OT transport to a normal transport gave us a +1 to armour save. Then again, maybe that's what armour plates/extra armour does instead. Ah, the possibilities!

So...
PK Nobz can't be challenged anymore, can die last, strike first, 4+ to hit (like most of the time now), probably 2+ to wound against MEQ, probably AP-3, probably D6 damage...
Pretty nice!

It's got 8 wounds though, so a trukk could have quite a few as well, and no chance of explosies - that's a HUGE boost in durability if you ask me! Not just to the trukk but the boyz inside...

Charging with vehicles sounds good, wrecking balls might not be so stupid now. On the other hand, -1 to hit with kill kannons hurts a bit.

This.
THIS.
THIS.
If consolidation into combat works like it used to, we may want to avoid the pile-in charge so that we can consolidate it instead. If we pile in, they can hit and run, get out and (if Tau) shoot. If we wait until consolidation, we won't get to charge that secondary unit but they can't fall back, and then the boyz are still locked.
Edit: If we actually get to consolidate new combats, I don't think Orks are going to get points decreases for anything, or for only a few units. Imagine 5 point boyz mobs 20 strong riding in an battlewagon for 180 points total..200 even with the power klaw. The boyz will never get shot as they consolidate into combat after combat. 200 points is probably waaay to cheap for that.

JimOnMars wrote:If an anni barge is t6, that probably means trucks are t5...so they still die pretty quick. I was hoping they would be a little tougher.
The difference between t5 and t6 is not what it used to be. Lazcannons, autocannons and meltaguns still wound on 3+. Bolters still wound on 5+. The difference is only with s3, s5, s6 and s10 weapons. Of which s3 and s5-6 might be pretty significant as it would take lazguns twice as many shots to do a wound to t6 than to t5. Heavy bolters and asscannons with scat lasers will do a bit more damage to trukks. That's reasonable.
Anywayz, i'm kinda happy i got 4 trukks at the end of 7- th. Might need a battlewagon or a gun wagon. However, with vehicles becoming somewhat tougher, able to eat overwatch(?) and even tarpit something in mellee, i'd suspect them to go up in price. Which is a good thing, really. Cause i'd love to have reasons to run footsloggers. Automatically Appended Next Post: orknado wrote:What ork units do you think will most likely suck in 8th edition?
Let's hope that none. If i have to pick, than it's flash gitz. They're just a concept that doesn't work. Expensive dudes with mellee stats, low bs, without armor and...with expensive ranged guns. What they need to become is another sort of lootas. Means cheaper with more anti-infantry guns. And get access to 'eavy armor.

They have been pretty consistent in translating stats and special rules to the new system though. I'd be very surprised if open topped would work different on ork transports.
For vehicle toughness, take average of front+side minus 5.
For weapon AP, it's basically the old AP value minus 5, and an additional -1 for rending or lance.
Templates are d6 automatic hits, small blasts are d3 hits and large blasts are d6 hits.
Ordnance weapons become d3 damage, tank hunter weapons d6.
From this you can guess that a killa kan will most likely be T6 and a grotzooka S6 2d3 hits with no AP.
The kustom mega kannon will probably be heavy d3 S8 AP -3, and so on.
At this point, the only thing hard to guess about vehicles and ranged weapons is the amount of wounds vehicles have.
Something just as important as consolidation into combat:
Casualties are removed by owner's choice confirmed!
It will be a lot harder to fail charges due to overwatch now. Also no more special weapon sniping.
I also just noticed that I no longer need MANz missiles. I can just put 3 Units of 3 plus a MA warboss in a single battlwagon - and I shall call it MANz nuke.

A great gift for our beloved tankbustas, I guess we will see larger groups in BWs instead of the usually min squads in trukks. Bomb squigs can become even more useful than now.

Maybe even 3+ to hit as SM profiles now seem to have a 3+ to hit instead of their previous WS4 which was the same of orks.

The mixed unit transports rule is a big buff for BWs. Roll up, killy guys(or possibly the wagon itself) clears the objective, Boys or grots stroll out and hold it.

Yep, for sure. Now the statistical comparison between a slugga/choppa nob, a BC nob and a PK nob will be more accurate. And maybe we'll get even more weapon options!
Since there is stuff hitting on 6+ in close combat, I wonder if some units will hit on 2+. A Solitaire, for example. A Warboss will probably just hit on 3+, tho.
