So, I put a Splinter Cannon under my Venom, and I was just wondering how far it could rotate.

Could you shoot at someone behind you? I thought it would be 45 degrees but what do you think?

Is it a turret mount or a hull mount? If a turret , it can rotate as far as it looks like it can rotate.

The codex doesn't say and the model is... ambiguous. When in place it looks like it ought to be able to rotate but they gave it a square tab so it can only be mounted pointing straight forwards.

Definitely can't shoot behind you - the lump behind the gun mount would stop you. However, if it is supposed to be able to move then it would have about 180 degrees of arc, maybe a litle more.

Does this come up often? You can rotate freely every time you move... just point it at what you want to die.

If I had to guess, I would say 180.

The problem with that is that it gives you less flexibility in the shooting phase - e.g. you point three venoms at something but roll incredibly lucky and kill it with the first one. The second two cannot do anything useful if they have hull mounts - with turret mounts they may be able to shoot something else.

I guess I didn't consider that, but then, I don't field that many venoms. It just doesn't come up for me.

Didn't say I didn't like them, I said I don't field that many. I love the venom, it's probably my favorite new DE thing. (New being a relative term, I think venoms were originally in the harlequin trial rules a few editions ago).

For the record, have been playing DE since they were released.

I always thought they were hull mounted, mainly because of the way they are modeled. All the DE players I have played against always just point at the thing they want to kill and shoot it straight on, though.

The model looks like it can rotate. If it had a round tab rather than a square one it would rotate 180-200 degrees.

yo could park a magnet and plate on the gun, flush to the mounting, perhaps, then rotate to see where the gun would stop.

I've just bought my first one, so i may try that.

This is also germaine because, on rare occasions, your Venom will get Immobilized but not destroyed (at least until your opponant realizes it's still pumping out 12 shots a turn. THAT little hillock was avoided for a while!) and still be able to contribute to the fight. But how much? 6 or 12? That is the question.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

When the vehicle is immobilized it matters. I just mentioned that.

Cant you just pivot if you want to shoot somewhere? Because in that case, 360 degrees.

Semi off topic but do people generally like Venom more or Raiders?

since in Canada Raider is just $3 more for a larger model that transports 10

Please read the entire thread before posting that you can pivot the vehicle. As has been stated twice now, the arc matters if the vehicle is immobilized.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I play the. Top cannon as pintle/turret with 360, nid the underling as 180. People I pay regular also know and agree with, and I mention to people I haven't played before. They generally agree its fine. Point being - discuss and clarify before the game to avoid in game issues on something that's not worth an argument

Mine are magnetised... top weapon with no crew is 360 rotation (i leave the crew off so i can put a model from the unit in the back. The underslung will rotate on the point to about 270 degrees with the rearmost 90 eing missed due to a bulge in the undercarrige.

You pivot in the movement phase.

If you point two venoms at the target and the first destroys it the second is now useless - unless it's weapon arcs allow it to engage something else.

So pretty important really.

I read up to the last 3 or so posts, which just happened to be the pivot ones. My bad.

The rulebook says 2 things.

!-It will be detailed in the codex, which it isn't so useless.

2-If you rotate it physically, or it looks like it can rotate physically, then it can. And it can fire 45 degrees up, and assumably down.

They both serve very different purposes - generally, Venoms are better for ferrying round shooting things as it gives very decent fire support (like blasterborn or a small unit of Kabalites) whereas Raiders are very good for assault-orientated units since it can be deployed sideways and give an extra few inches of movement.

Admit it, Venoms are their for their ludicrously under-costed amount of poison firepower.
